Have you listened to the latest korda podcast with Pete Regan? The man is a legend and had me in stitches. I'm well into podcasts now thanks to you @elmoputney. 👍
-
Yeah, sound bloke is bungle, met him on white swan. He catches them.
-
It's a cracking fish. That's with Scotty.K holding it. He fished white swan when I was on there. As my name is Scott as well a few of the lads decided on calling him "thin scott" and me, well I'll let you guess 🤣
-
I did see this. Cracking fish isn't it. Another one in there like that which is even bigger..

The easiest and the best thing to do is buy the correct clothing and sleeping bag, no heater required then. Put a layer on if too cold or take a layer off if too hot, simple and safe.

All part of baiting up I'm afraid. It makes your heart sink sometimes. As for it sounding like a lot of bait, I'd say that's a snack for a hungry carp. They can eat loads when on it.

Well you think you know a lake, well I've been awake since 3-45 in anticipation and I've not seen a single fish and I can see 90% of the lake. I did see half a dozen fish just before dark in my vicinity so was quite confident. 2 blokes fishing into the wind at the other end of the lake both have their doors down, they said its freezing Haha. Got one other mate right at the back of the wind, he hasn't seen anything either. The carp and their great disappearing act Haha

Well I've managed to pull a crafty one. I recently brought a sack of crushed hemp so prepared that yesterday afternoon with a few tins of sweetcorn and chickpeas. Spodded 2 buckets onto 2 spots that were weeded up in a particular swim I feel the fish will end up in with coming weather conditions. My mate told me they were slicking up all morning. I had to wait in for a fresh batch of boilies so would have been down first thing. Only Just got in here though and rods out and the 2 spots that I could hardly feel the lead down on the other day are both going down clean and with a definitive thump. Just hope I'm not a day late. 🤞

My favourite pattern of hook. Very rarely pull out of fish with this hook. I only use size 4 or 2 and only use it with critically balanced or pop up baits.
-
I know what you mean. I've got lots of work to do around the house this week so won't be on the bank. Proper low pressure, full moon, everything is aligned for some hauling.
-
Spot on, keep it simple. 👍

Top man Elmo, well deserved.
-
You're probably right. Probably only a stockie when I was there.

I did fish on black swan for just over a season but I wasn't fortunate enough to catch that one. Crazy looking fish for sure.
-
Some pictures don't always show the size but it certainly does in this pic. That's a proper one for sure mate. Great picture.
-
Find yourself some mole hills and add some to your mix or you can get small bags of loam. It needs to be loam for dressing cricket pitches, though mole hill soil is obviously free.

Fish of a life time mate and a couple of cracking pics. Top angling.

It was good and very handy when I fished there. And still good to pop down to see some mates.

Well I'm no longer a member of dinton but needed to get out today for some excercise, so living only a 5 minute drive I thought I'd cycle down there. Proper weather for spotting a few and spot a few I did. I wish my phone had a polarized lens as it would show this fish much better. The picture doesn't do it justice but it is in fact " the saddleback linear" in black swan lake. I saw a long fish under an overhanging tree so took a closer look. I could clearly see the tell tale dip in the dorsal fin and its obvious length and size and you can just make out some linear scales . Not sure what weight it was on its last capture but it's an upper 40 if not 50. Also spotted a few more around black swan. A few 20's and one other I'd put at mid 40lb. No pictures as the glare on the surface was wrong for a picture. Nice to see fish but now I really want to go Haha.

Just finished the one with dean, thought it was really good. Absolutely top man is dean and an absolute blast. I'm guessing most of the funny bits in there were toned down knowing dean. I'll definitely listen to some more, cheers for opening my eyes or ears in this case elmo 👍

A very apt name and insane indeed.

Top angling as always mate. That mirror is full on black. Is it a deep silt/ silt feeder? Or is that its normal colours?
-
My mate was on a lake that introduced the use of bait boats. The first year or 2 the fish go hammered, but after that they went back to normal. So my mate would tow his rig out with no freebies but bait with a stick and he hammered them again. When something is new then yes go with it but they soon learn that a small pile of bait equals danger, that's my feeling anyway.
-
Well I did hear matey mention in the podcast that they had done one with dean fletcher (current carp record holder, or at least was with " the parrot). He was on dinton when I was on there, a top bloke and a hell of angler. He only ever fished 1 night a week, if he was lucky. But not seen him for a couple of years so I'll try and find that one and listen to what he's been upto. 👍

Totally agree that fishing is all about opinions and these opinions will come from firstly and most importantly , your own fishing and what you've seen and secondly, what you have witnessed in other people's fishing. Now for me no one is right and no one is wrong, unless its something glaringly obvious to everyone. But as you say " Leonard " came across as , "that's rubbish so don't ever use it and if you do you'll never catch and are stupid If you do". Like you say, he wants to be listened to and most be people would listen if he could accept that his opinion isn't always the same as someone else's and just because he said something it was right. It was right for him obviously. He just needed to write/ come across differently and it would be just fine. Instead of saying something like " that's rubbish , don't use it etc" which has some for aggression in it, that's how I read aitvanyway. All that needs to be said is, " I've tried them and for me they weren't that good etc " . You'd be like, fair enough thanks for your help. And spot on when you say you fish for yourself. Those that are more worried about what tom, Dickie and harry are doing are the ones that get left behind. All I want to do is enjoy it, make some good friends and hopefully beat my PB, but the last one is just a bonus.
