Rods - am I missing a trick?
elmoputney replied to ga33a's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
I am not a Nash fan and don't own a lot of there stuff at all, but the concept behind the scope range is a good one for those wishing to travel light and keep everything compact, I can see the appeal while I don't see the appeal in going fishing in a busy town centre on a Saturday night I guess some do each to there own , I guess I am old enough to make my own decisions and I don't feel I was hoodwinked when I bought them and I certainly knew what there limits may be but so far I haven't been compromised by them (just by myself) -

Well having used some for a while I can say they have really helped me, most of the time I couldn't get enough back swing with a 12 foot rod to compress it enough to cast to the spots I wanted with a 10ft I seem to miss all the trees and bushes behind and can cast clean without catching anything, it's great Sometimes I think I would love to fish a nice big swim, that's all flat and easy to set up in with ample space, but then I also think that in 20 years time most lakes will be all manicured and it's nice to have to trek through brambles and overhanging trees and have to set my brolly up in less than ideal areas, Has Alan Blair upset you before you seem to really hate him ? That would be fine In some swims but some lakes are quite deep in the margins 1 accidental wrong step and I could be nose deep and at 3am after a bream would be a bit of a chore I probably wouldnt have gone for 10ft rods without being constantly frustrated by my 12 foot rods but I am glad I have they make my fishing easier and more pleasurable and that suits me I want to enjoy my surroundings not be in a constant battle against them, I really just don't get why people seem so against them without having tried them for themselves -

I still use my big pits,5000 series so it isn't a massive big pit but I dont really see a much better alternative really, I got a bait runner with my barbel rod, but the line lay and twist makes it much less pleasurable to use so I stick with them as they work and they are hassle free, -

Sorry if I offended, I meant that more generally by the way as in people still aren't happy having options available 😁 perhaps I should have read it again before posting -
Isn't it asifetito (devil's dung😁) in those scent from hell pop ups as well? And of all the pop ups I own why is always those I slightly leave the lid off and or knock over provably losing one or two in the deepest recess of my garage/bivvy/bag😂😂

Any business wants to find a way to fill a particular gap in the market though, that's just business, for me there is a benefit to using 10ft over 12 so I am glad they did 😁 While everyone always knocks the industry they have some blooming good ideas to make our life on the bank better and there are some great things out there, and in my opinion it's better than ever for getting the right kit for the right situation -

I don't think it is all about fashion I think its down to the fact they are Available to buy these days, I seem to remember years ago all you could get were stalking rods or carp rods usually 11 or 12 ft, neither totally suitable for my current situation, embrace the change I say now you can have rods for all situations and you're still not happy about it ? -

I think it all comes Down to the right tools for the job, personally I think my small rods are great for what I do, I can cast them accurately possibly more so than when using 12ft rods at similar distances, I like the fact they don't take up as much of my swim as these are usually quite tight, I've yet to really need to launch one but I think they could cast a fair way if needs be, yes they aren't an out and out casting tool but they aren't really designed for that, I think there will be a time when I have a need for more than one set of rods and then I will probably be looking for something over 12ft for distance or increased distance anyway but for small waters I think they are perfectly usable -
I've been guilty of making this mistake,a very silly one to make also what if you find fish in an unfancied unloved area you prebait create a great situation then you have to then book it and give the game away,

Swim booking isn't a rule I would enjoy I bet the bailiffs mates always get the best pegs saved first as well, or If someone enquired about one they would get a text first before finding out if it was available

I use 10ft rods mainly because all the swims i want to fish are overgrown and have over hanging trees,it does make a difference to me as the margins are deep and my 12 foot spomb seems to catch on the trees behind, given the choice and the space, I think I would use a 12 foot rod, but the 10 footers do a good job and have performed well in tight situations for me this year, although I don't need to hit the horizon, for that I would definately prefer a 12 foot or longer rod -
They might be more violent line bites because the bobbins are designed to light and sensitive, I use cygnets that seem similar lightweight types and prefer the extra indication you get from them too much is better than not enough in my opinion

The secret lake I am trying to find out had one really annoying rule, You are not allowed to pass the owners phone number on 😖
-
I was put off by having to book night sessions on a club water , quite often the Chance only arises for me after loads of begging and being a super husband so that I can nip out for a quick overnight session,I haven't got time to ask a bailiff for permission as well as the missus 😀
-
What sort of bobbins are you using ? Are you fishing a tight line ? I tend to find small violent ones are line bites or nuisance fish or birds ,but I fish a semi slack line at that sort of distance and the bobbin would usually return to the same place with a liner That said I was getting 1 beep takes the other night I knew were fish as the rod tip quivered and the bobbin was pulled tight, poor little 8lb bream couldn't be bothered to move the lead

St ives tackle is the actual shop I go to when I can first class for help and guidance
-
Shouldn't it be called ROY'S Direct as it all started in Wroxham Nick ? At least it isnt the bookies they do good deals so I am glad I can still use them
-
I won't use angling direct anymore then if it's funded by William Hill,
-
I tend to use eBay Bank tackle DNA for bait Monster particles for particles Or whoever is cheapest on Google shopping 😬
-
I'm going to spend the next few hours thinking I should just admit I am a bream angler in disguise 2 8lb bream last night 😀 Both nailed so I had to use my bream mat to unhook them, I am quite pleased with the performance of my bream rigs though good luck Nick sounds like you have got something to get stuck right into enjoy
-
I usually sit and tie rigs when watching you tube on the telly, it's probably not as proactive and probably a lot slower but it's an enjoyable way to make them in advance of my sessions
-
Probably not a bad idea apparently Dave (not his real name ) only appears there every few weeks will keep trying
-
I think that's probably my best option to keep walking it tbh, all the guys seemed friendly enough and had a good chat so that's a good start

I recently found out about a venue fairly close to me that I didn't even know existed since then I've been for a walk round a couple of times , and naturally I now want to enquire about a ticket, now I've spoken to 4 anglers on my travels and none of them will give me any contact details, it's sort of run as a closed shop syndicate ,and I believe the owner tells them not to pass on any details on, Any ideas on getting past the wall of silence ? All I've got is first name a rough age and a club he fishes quite a lot 😀

That's a lot easier to understand, basically don't attach a leader with a swivel
