I think "characters" is the expression your looking for . Oh and eccentric

Mick brown was so proud of himself he looked like he was going to cry , proper emotional he was and thats what i remember more than the actual fish liam . I realise that the stocking of foreign fish grates with a lot of people and i think everybody , in an ideal world , would like to catch a proper old english beaut , but its not the fish's fault and it still had to be landed . If a garlic chewing 40 wanted to eat one of my hookbaits i wouldnt be drop kicking it back into the lake lets put it that way ...

The passion for angling episode with the unfished estate lake is my fave . Along with the matt & mick episode where mick catches his 40 ... Anyone remember jack hargreaves' out of town ?

Cant believe its taken me 4 years to find this thread . Keep it up boys , best thread i've come across in years . I havent laughed so much since grandma died.....
-
Thanks ian but only doing what you and most on here would have done mate . Stevo your 100% right mate long may it continue . You never did pm me with regards to your last comment ?
-
Yeah you got a bit of a deal there i reckon even without the missing part and even if you end up paying £20+ for the chub bars your still coming out on top . Cant beat the jrc bivvies imo
-
I know you wasnt to know but i still cant believe that geezer flogged on the bivvy without the central tension thingy ? Hope the price you paid for it reflected it
-
Or , of course , you are very welcome to mine if your more in my neck of the woods
-
Try putting chub tension bars in the search engine .
-
Ok , now , chub used to sell a set of 3 bivvy brace bars which do exactly the same job only they are a lot more solid . Trouble is THEY are now discontinued as well BUT i recently picked up a set on fleabay for a bit over the odds so they are still about . I heard that trakker do something similar but i'm not sure and taking a look at the jrc contact bivvy , that middle pole looks similar to the chub bars so maybe jrc do them now for their own bivvies ? Either way the geezer who flogged you that defender has had you over because the bivvy is useless without that middle pole and he would have known that too . On a more cheerful note , your better off getting the metal brace bars anyway cos the pole supplied with your bivvy is more trouble than its worth mate , a real pain to thread through ! I was told about the chub bars by ian (welder) who posts on here . Eventually he will be along to give you his tuppence worth but he's at the social at the mo so probably as drunk as a sack
-
Well you have a similar problem to the one i'm having at the moment in that the defender range has been discontinued and i dont know whether the (new) contact range of bivvies has the same set up ie the middle pole that you are missing. Google the latest jrc bivvy range and take a gander mate . If they dont use the same part then there IS another way ...
-
If its the same as the sti's then there should be an elasticated fold-up pole which threads thru it from the back to the front just above the door . It keeps the bivvy up mate .

Whereabouts in essex are we talking matey ?
-
Ah gotcha so you could probably deduct what type of silt it is by leading around a bit beforehand . I suppose its common sense really that no fish would want to dine IN something that smelt as foul as some of that stuff can . Thanks mate its good that you are still around for me to pick your brains , so many regulars seem to have disappeared from the forum lately. Apologies to the original poster for hijacking the thread.
-
Nick , how would you know whether the fish were feeding IN or ON TOP of the silt ? Or is that a noddy question ? It IS still early

Churchgate Lakes Battlebridge
newmarket replied to carpyfatboyjay's topic in UK Venues and Where to Fish
Cant say i've ever fished there but they have quite a good website if i remember rightly ? Anyway , welcome to the forum . They are mostly a good bunch of fellas that get on here usually very helpful with their advice and you'll learn as much from the search facility too matey . Most impressive . -
As most people have said , try & keep it simple . Maybe its just as simple as shortening or lengthening your hooklinks. Same with the hairs . Theres a superb thread on here somewhere entitled "complicated rigs" i should check it out if i was you mate
-
Ian , my fingers are the same mate , tieing pop ups on with bait floss is just way too fiddly . I tend to use the "u" section of a paper clip , pop one end of it through the D and push the "u" into the pop up . I know this involves piercing the hookbait which a lot of people frown upon , but a good quality pop up will remain bouyant plenty long enough. Just for the record , i use the esp choddies too but the gardners are a great substitute when the esp's are out of stock.

newmarket replied to newmarket's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Yes thank you boy george I would like to know though, why it programmed my 2 alarms onto random led's rather than the first two ? Maybe its something to do with the previous owners alarms & its stll programmed for them ? -

Attx v1 receiver Advice pleeeease ?
newmarket replied to newmarket's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Ok Now do you know what mate ? I did exactly that last night to no avail and it was then that somebody misinformed me that "beep" the alarm meant to switch it on doh ! Anyway , i've just tried it again and the damn things worked this time and made me look like a prize melt ! Its programmed the two eos' onto led 3 and 5 respectively which isnt ideal but i dont care at the moment, i just want the system to work full stop. Wonder why its done that ? -
Morning chaps , uncle newmarket is here to pick your brains again This time its a question for who uses or has used the attx v1 receiver and dongles. I've aquired a v1 receiver and a couple of dongles and i've been trying to programme my eos x alarms into the receiver so that i can use it on my overnighter this weekend but i'm having problems. Once the receiver is switched on and all the led's are lit up , the instructions say to hold down the button at the side of the receiver and "beep" the first alarm till the first led goes out. Then , whilst still holding down the side button, "beep" the second alarm and so on....... Trouble is , ive taken "beep" to mean "switch on" , when i switch on the first eos nothing happens at all. The first led on the receiver remains lit and nothing changes . I dont think i'm doing it correctly , anybody out there got any ideas ? Or am i doing it correctly and just got dodgy batteries in the dongles ? I've had a good look through the search facility nick
