I’ve always sworn by Fox nets , if you shop around you can find the EOS 42 or 46” ones for a little over a nifty . Having said that I’ve never bought any naff JRC stuff , and I have quite a bit .
-
Just noticed that the lakes I fished for a good few years , on & off , The Chase lakes at Dagenham/Rush Green has introduced quite recently a rule banning Zig Rigs and Floater fishing . Meaning if the sun comes out you might as well pack up and go home . Why would they do that ? it’s certainly made my mind up whether to fish there this summer .

If it’s good enough for you then it’ll be good enough for me , though me being me , if I went down the axs route I’d still be looking to eliminate any possible problem . see , if you hadn’t mentioned it I probably would never have noticed 🤣 how long do those NGT poles extend as I see Sonik do various sizes ? Anyway , the important stuff , did you catch ?
-
Just a thought but is it possible that a bigger set of storm poles might lift the overwrap a tad and create a gap between said wrap and brolly/shelter ? Does the full biv have the same problem ? Difficult for me to visualise it never having seen one close up .
-
You think that’s hard you need to try the 2 man sti … I’ll get me coat 😊
-
So you can start off with just the brolly and add the groundsheet , front bit and over wrap as and when you feel like it but to get it to work properly you have to buy the complete Bivvy to start with ? Clever , clevvverrrr 🙄

Sounds like Sonik’s customer service is pretty good mate . I’ve priced em up and I can get hold of the brolly & wrap for less than two & a half , maybe adding the other bits afterward if I feel I need to . I never use or very rarely use groundsheets anyway as most proper swims where I would fish are barked out anyway so it wouldn’t be needed though I may choose to get the front panel thingy at some stage . one question though . The wrap seems to have a couple of storm poles or frame type thing at the front . Do they come with the wrap or do they have to be bought separately as I can’t find em on sale anywhere ?

I’ve been shopping around for a new lightweight shelter for the coming season and this axs range has really caught my eye , hence the thread resurrection. I have a JRC sti 2 man Bivvy in the loft and whilst I love it , it is not only too damn heavy but the pramhoody poles were a nightmare to put together and to take apart were even worse so I’ve been perusing the big bad internet in search of something a bit lighter and quicker to erect etc . im only liable to fish short sessions , 48’s tops , and since I’m now an old arthritic dinosaur the basic Brolley plus the wrap for night time looks just the ticket . Has anybody got , or STILL got , and use one of these and can maybe big it up or slag it off maybe ? Tbh I was originally looking for one of the TFG Brolley’s but can’t find any anywhere and think maybe they’ve gone out of business. Then I came across these …

I’ve just spent a few hours revisiting YouTube for anything Chris Yates . Passion for Angling , The Secret Carp , Secret Lake (with Martin Bowler). Love it . Watching these , most things in fact , featuring Yates/Bowler & Bob James really takes me back to basics , reminding that you don’t need Bivvies & bite alarms to catch a fish . Roll on Spring 😉

Good luck Nick . interesting Coffee pot .

Hope things go well for the Mrs matey and for you too 😉🤞🏻

I take it you’ve googled ?

I’m sure this pic is already on here somewhere but seeing as I just found this thread I thought I’d post it here anyway , to this day my biggest and probably best looking fish . 28lb dead .

Anyone got any reviews on crafty catcher retro baits

Evening Nick , early spring time you wouldn’t be slinging a load of bait in anyway would you ? Or would you ? -

Please tell me that you consider XXX and/or B5 to fit that criteria ? -

Yes Yon that’s what I’m thinking totally . In years gone by I’ve tended to stick to my old fave raves XXX and/B5’s , but then I was pretty much fishing the same lake and I felt it wasn’t a disadvantage even though my sessions were pretty infrequent. Now though I’ve a feeling I’ll be fishing a multitude of different venues , at least until I find my feet again in this game so was exploring the attractor bait possibility to maximise my chances in one off situations. I’ll mostly be forced to fish at weekends and school holidays as well so couldn’t see the point in long term food source baits such as the ones I’m used to using. Having said that , the shorter term better- than-the-norm shelfies now on offer from my favourite bait companies don’t work out much more expensive than the cheapies above if I buy 10kg upwards anyway so maybe I’ve answered my own question. Maybe it’s not the right thread anyway but I’d be interested to read the thoughts of those in a similar position to myself , re bait for different day tickets etc . -

Hey Nick , sorry to bump this thread up but I thought it better than starting another thread. What , if anything , do you know about the more recent Crafty offerings the “ carry outs “ ? I like the look of their Spicy krill & Garlic bulk deals but they are ridiculously and suspiciously cheap and wondered if you’d heard anything since you used to be a bit itk on the subject ? -
A few had spots of mould on em , they got chucked , but the majority of them seem to be ok . strangely enough the ones that seem fine are mostly either the CC Moore or Essential Baits offerings . Coincidence ? maybe … my heavily glugged hookies appear to be fine too .
-
Yeah I can relate to that . There’s a few I know that are coming out of semi retirement this year . which is good , there’s nothing better than a couple of days on the bank .
-
Cheers fella I needed someone to say that 😊
-
Hi Jonesy , hope you’re well . I take it that’s a no ? Most of em are unopened so I thought it a reasonable question.
-
That looks lovely there matey 👍🏻 hope you’re well .
-
Are these going to be any good now ? 🤣🤷🏻♂️

Thanks for that . I’m 200 miles from you but nevertheless that was a damn fine read , very interesting indeed , and must have took you ages to write . I’m amazed nobody else has had the courtesy to reply tbh but It’s probably a quiet time of year for the forum . thanks again , and I hope your great grandson catches a forty from Worsbrough , sounds a nice place 👍🏻

Howdy fella , Grays actually . I used to fish at Crow Green quite a bit but the big lake used to be very hard , the others not so much . I expect I’ll end up there again in the spring as the small lakes are always good for a bite especially if my boy seemingly wants to get into it . I ummed and arrrred about the Billericay club for ages but it was the lack of night venues that always put me off to be honest . I don’t drive , never have , and my Mrs or occasionally a mate would take me/pick me up etc so when I used to Carp fish I would go for 2 or 3 nights as it was always easier to arrange transport . plus on day sessions it was time to leave by the time I got set up 😊 My Mrs getting up at 3.30 to take me fishing was never happening , she’d drop me off at the Chase in Dagenham ( where I was a member) on a Friday afternoon and come get me on Sunday or Monday . Anyway back to venues , as I say , any half decent day tickets have now gone secret squirrel round here by all accounts . Im looking forward to getting back into it all albeit slowly . It’ll be like a complete novice again , back to my roots and all that . Shame there’s no decent Barbel fishing round here , that’s what I’d really like 🤣
