  1. Always pull off the same length of hooklink material from the spool - this should give you a good starting point. Just measure it against your tackle box/bivvy table/bucket lid etc etc. You could also measure the link after tying your hook on?
  2. Cracking place! Peaceful and nicely remote. Oh, watch out for the diving Terns. I speak from experience. Ian There were also a few rough looking chaps in the local pub last time I went. Fortunately, I don't think they drink there that often!!!!! Seriously though, it's a nice place to fish and the owner is a really nice bloke. His dog is just as friendly.
  3. Have a look at the Kryston range. The two I use don't 'crack' at the knot.
  4. Give it a bit more time. 24hours isn't that long in forum terms There are a couple of Shropshire lads on here, including myself. Unfortunatly I can't help with any info on this place other than what I have read in the other threads about it.
  5. I use the figure of 8 loop knot. Quite tricky to do in a small loop with the stiff material but I find it better than a grinner or blood knot. It means that the rig always has the best chance of sitting right.
  6. As mentioned before, I have made some adjustments to the way I tie the rig and also how it is mounted on the main line. The rig is tied pretty much the same but the swivel has changed from a large eye to a ring swivel. This is because I can then have the shot mounted on a loop of floss under the swivel and mainline pulling everything down in a much neater way than having it on the loop knot on the rig. When the shot is mounted like this, the rig wasn’t ‘flying’ off the shock sleeve as well as previous so I needed to alter this a bit. I still wanted to protect the line during the fight so the obvious solution was a small length of rig tube inserted into a helicopter bead. This was pulled through and then ‘blobbed’ with a lighter to hold it in position without the need of any glue. I have now, after Jez’s suggestion, employed the use of a Korda sinker to set my depth along with the ESP bead. I am now totally happy that I am using a safe rig that sits nicely.
  7. Jack - have a word with Coops. I use Bang on baits DSM pop ups. It takes an AA shot to hold them with a size 6 fox arma point! When used on a chod then a No1 will hold them (along with the swivel and sinkers). The rig just pulls nicely down through the water with the shot under the swivel rather than pushing it down.
  8. Nice post Jack. Good to see you back on here again too. As always, the way I fish it has changed a bit again! I now use the Korda sinkers as suggested by Jez. Fantastic little things they are. Also, you might have noticed that I tie the rig with a loop and did have the shot on that loop? I now loop a bit of floss around the swivel eye that is on the mainline. This then has a shot placed on it tight to the eye. It is a bit difficult to explain so will try and put a sketch up or a pic soon. Anyway, I find this helps the rig sit much nicer.
  9. I, to be honest, don't care if the social section comes back. Socials can be arranged on any part of the board or through pm's. The benefit of having a section dedicated to socials is so the site can be kept tidy - something that the administration like to do Of course, it would be a better forum with one, but not the end of the world. What I do care about is all the previous posts, reports, pictures and interaction, even some memories, have been lost forever. If the section comes back, the posts won't! To loose all that hard work is, in my opinion, is just plain stupidity and arrogance. Even just removing the latest thread concerned, though still a petty act, would have been better.
  10. None, most of the time.
  11. Old estate lake, nice fish - assosiate membership? lets you fish, I think, 7 days. You can fish them all in one or split them.
  12. Go down there tomorrow - have a pint in the club and speak to a few people. Ask the steward if it would be ok to have a walk around Ham and Wick. You will soon get a feel for the place.
  13. Wickwater is far from an inland sea! And you have decided to give SC a miss because you have heard it's busy. So instead you will continue on Linear lol Yes Wick can get busy at the weekends as too can Ham. There is a lake on the ticket that you can get all the peace and quiet you nedd though - with some good fish to go at. It's hard work though! For the money they charge for the season - you wouldn't get a weekend on linear for! Wick is a water that will give a few fish up quite easily and holds a couple of good un's (box and big lin) along with a fish that may or may not still be in there! It is 2 years since I last fished it so am a bit out of the loop so to speak. Once your on there and get talking to a few members then information on other, quieter waters on the park might become available - myself and Iambunn off of here had a nice 10 man syndicate there not so long ago with some uncaught monsters in! The club bar on Ham is a good starting point. The AK ticket might also be worth a go for you, or, get both and you will have acres and acres of water to go at with some of the most beautifull fish in the country to target. There would never be a weekend when you couldn't find a pleasnt place to fish then!
  14. Simple experiment: ______________________________ _________ Which line is the easiest to see? I know it's not as simple as that in real life but hopefully you can see where I am comming from?
  15. Rather than giving you advice on which one to buy or telling you not to buy it at all, can I ask you a question? What are your reasons for wanting to use leacore? Are you trying to overcome a certain problem? Once these are answered then you may get some sound advice.
  16. Could the ring cut into the hooklink as it tightened? im not sure that the ring could, but the line could damage the knot........only if the was enough pressure on it ....which i think is unlikley as its only the pressure of sucking/blowing and not playing the fish on the ring/loop Sorry Beanz - just re-read your post. I thought it was the ring itself that was trapped in the last loop/whip - not the tag end as you quite clearly state! lol
  17. Could the ring cut into the hooklink as it tightened?
  18. South Cerney angling club. Some very nice fish to go at.
  19. Tied up at work all week Dave. Then away all weekend but might take a walk round tomorrow night?
  20. On one swim! To be honest - I've never fished there without moving swim anyway!
  21. Join the Carp Society and go to Horseshoe - all you could ask for of a venue and more!
  22. Cut off your mesh with around an inch and a half tag from the bait. Cut straight down the middle of the tage end to the bait. Tie down in a double overhand knot. Nice and tight!
  23. Jamie showed me the beads last week on our trip out and I must admit I like them a lot. I would have no problem using them as I don't use a leader. It's just that the bore on them seems a liitle tight to slip the knot?
  24. How many metres of leader are you using? Do the Avid beads slip over the leader knot eaisily?
