It is sad, they have problems with netters and longliners and we have our own problems with cormorants and other vermin. End of the day the best place for all of these preditors is, strung up outside a gamekeepers gibbit, regardless of what breed the virmin is!

Let me state clearly that I am not racist, far from it. I do however hate free loaders and scum comming into the UK or anywhere else for that matter. Since the communist grip of eastern europe was relaxed the whole of Europe has beneffited. However the UK joining the common market was the first step on the ladder of the destruction of GREAT Britain. Now to the Point. if you go to the countries where these poachers originate you often find laws far moor severe than here, eg Poland, Rumania, Ukraine etc etc, in all these countries if ytou are caught with fish above a certain size you lose everything including your freedom. Thats great in them countries because the fish all breed VERY succesfully and there is a huge harvestable surpluss of fish, that can be caught and eaten, but over a certain size they are put back to breed, whereas in the UK the fish simply dont breed like that and there is no harvestable surpluss. Its no different to us harvesting wood pigeons that over populate the uk, but in Europe, where they dont breed as well they are protected in the main. However a small minority of people can see the oppertunety in countries that have little wildlife law enforcement to catch native wildlife for markets in other counties, eg the netting taking place in Spain Germany, Uk, Ireland etc, and the vwholesale slaughter of Swans, Geese etc the the UK and Ireland. These people are often not Countrymen, fishermen etc, they simply hear and see anglers catches and find on the internet and from books ways of harvesting these fish etc. This last lot in Spain will be deported etc, but there are many more that get away with it. Until everybody conserned, anglers, dog walkers police etc get together and start talking, they the poaches will get away with it. With my own eyes I have seen poaching completely ignored by anglers both here and in other european countries. Yet one phonecall and its often delt with.

I have spent most of my life as carp angler, but I have drifted in different directions at various times. I think there has always been good and poor anglers but a lot it depends on the type of fishing. Purely carp I would say some of the old anglers were better, they had less fish to go for, poorer gear etc, but they produced, however there are still some anglers in the same class. Sea fishing, they are far better now, they have to be with the lack of fish etc. And when it comes to specimen anglers, they are now head and shoulders above the anglers of yesteryear, for a number of reasons, some being better gear, better thinking and understanding etc. But this has nothing to do with whats going on in Spain, Italy etc, this is just greedy scum, systematicly netting waters of everything that swims for the market.

Not so, certain areas you are not allowed to kill fish, regardless. I know a large area of the Top lake/ sea of aragon, is classed as a nature reserve, so no killing. But this scum are not angling for the table, they are longlining and netting for comersial reasons and shipping everything over to Romania or anywhere else they can sell the fish.

When I was in a hospital bed I whatched fishing on TV, on a thinking tackle program DF was talking to someone, I think called Tom and he clearly stated that the nacked chod was his development of the normal chod set up and he then went on to show the EXACT setup that has been described on this forum and others. As to the KD, sorry but I do not know what that rig is.

I have nothing against DF or Korda, but I do dislike some of their gear and some of their statements etc. Dany has a remarkable talent for marketing and making people take note and he certainly makes money,for that I praise him. But I dislike it when I here them state that one of their sponsered anglers or company members have designed a rig or even an item of tackle and its not true, eg Krusher, anyone who has been in a cocktail bar will have seen them used and years before Korda, their hook paterns etc. And then rigs etc, take a look at the naked chod that according to their tv programs, was developed by one of theirs, it was being used and written about on this forum years ago, etc etc I have yet to see anything done by them that was not described or used before and if they then market it to the masses, so be it, however they should not claim its their idea, but the law being what it is they can do it and get away with it as normal mortal anglers do not have the finances to pay for filling patents.

Another example of DF marketing, they are nothing new and have been made by the likes of VMC and used by french anglers for some time. The Korda state that they were invented by one of their golden boys, eh, I dont think so.

Hi,Magnificent looking dog. However, I dont think you statement is quite correct. Strictly speaking a Lurcher is a crossbeed of any sight hound eg whippet, greyhound saluki and any pastoral breed,eg collie, german shepherd etc. they hunt by sight, smell and hearing! A cross twixt two sighthounds is a Longdog and normaly hunt by sight alone. However over the last 60 years or so more and more terrier cross dogs have been called lurchers by their owners so that now it is common practice to call bush dogs like bedlington terrier x whippets lurchers . The three types of dogs were originaly breed for completely different reasons.

Hi, Your rods are more than man enough. They have a habit of wareing through the hook link with there sandpaper like mouth pads. If I was fishing a lake with a few, I would be using long hooklinks made of very strong and super smooth polished braid, there a a few of them about. They love fishy boilies and pellets, but will get hooked on just about anything including sweet corn.

Hi I am an angler, although I fish mainly for carp. I have always sort out the best methods and equipment I can to angle as best I can. I will tell you the tail of the size 18 360 rig. You will know how many tench there are in most gravel pits being fished by arp anglers. You will also know most carp anglers use baits small enough for tench, yet very few actualy get caught. I was tempted by a shoal of huge tench living in a very large gravel pit in Berkshire, a pit that was fish every day by some of the best and famous carp and specimen anglers in the UK. Finding them and getting them to eat was simple, getting them hooked was almost impossible. I had three rods out on the bait and I tried EVERY trick in the book. My results were 2 fish 7&8.5lb on the mag aligner over 12 days and stacks of roach ,rudd etc. On a hunch I tried the little 360, the difference was unbeleavable to say the least, I got 9 fish between 6 and 11 lbs in 3 days!. Now I am not saying that the 360 is the be all of rigs, it is not, but in those conditions, there is nothing to come close. There are between 2&3 of these fish come out a year to other specimen anglers. People tell me that this and that rig work the same! rubbish, they do not come close. I have used the 360 for a long time and tested it under water against alsorts of other rigs. I was probably one of the very first to use the rig, by accident I might add. I was walking round a large gravel pit and happened on the rig on the deck, I picked it up examined it and for safety reasons put it in my pocket. I tried it in the margins with a bottom bait and then a popup, the following week I caught a 50 on it and I was hooked! I now beleave the rig was left on the bank by MR Lane.

Again quite easy Hit the first take and play the fish, when the second goes hit it lay the rod on the ground with the bail arm open. Then, get on your knees and pray to God, Alah, the Sun and the moon and any other god you can think of for your good fortune, TWO takes, I should be so lucky.

Hi I have found the heavier the hook and swivels arrangment are and the more bouyent the popup, the better the whole thing works. So use heavy gauge wire hooks etc and a shot directly below the swivel. The bouyant hook bait pulling against the hooking arrangment makes the swivel work. Two further things, although I have used the rig an awfull lot, I have still never found any mouth dammage And finaly, I am posting a couple of pictures, they are not meant to antagonise anyone in anyway but they were posted on this forum a few years ago. They are of the actual rig that landed my first 50. And for those interested here is a size 18 hooking arrangment and still no mouth dammage

I said this a very long time ago, as I refused to use leadcore, I was practicing the " Naked chod" as it seems to be known, whist most hadnt heard of it . I do not use a top bead, I have never found a reason to use one and I use the lightest leads possible and on small lakes I often use 1/2oz leads. I have been told by "experts"that it wont work!, well I must ONLY fish for suicidle carp.

Hi Lads, I know I am repeating an earlier post of mine, but due to Archie attacking my hands I realy struggle, not only with tying on popups but also putting baitstops in place on normal boilies. If my hands are bad I attach a bait band onto my rig [regardless of type], I then pull the stretched baitband through the boilie/popup/pellet. When the bait band is released it fills the whole and makes it water tight, so there is no worry on water ingress. It also means I can rebait the same rig very easily and quickly. I -pressume this is the same method as del on popups. And before someone suggests it! I have never lost a boilie on the cast.

About as good a discription as Ive seen. Perfect for any carp that swims and any bait.

Hi The hook should be pushed out following the entry route as close as possible. Barbed hooks tend to go in then not move and if pushed the opposite way cause less damage then trying to twist them etc as this only enlarges the entry and internal hole. The best way to achieve this is to either use a discorger pushed down the line to the bend of the hook and then keep pushing the opposite way to the entry. Or a pair of forceps on the bend of the hook and again push the opposite to entry. All but the most stubborn hooks will come out neatly like this. Big barbs sometimes stop the hook moving if embedded in cartilage and will take a bit more moving, hold the hook tight and give the back of the holding hand a sharp tap with your other hand If the point and barb go right through to the outside cut the hook in half with a pair of cutters Whilst I am at it I will try to explain the correct way to remove a barbed hook from ones own person. Imagine the hook is embedded deep in the end of you left index finger, Get a length of fishing line 60cm long; tie the two ends together so you have a continuos loop. Put the loop over the hook and slide it down until it sits on the bend of the hook, now trap the shank of the hook with you left hand thumb tightly against your index finger, With your right hand get hold of the loop of line and give it a quick sudden jerk or better still get someone else to do it. I was shown this way to remove hooks by the late Fred J and was again shown in hospital when I got a size 4 single embedded in my face. It works a treat and I have successfully removed barbed hooks as big as 8-00, painful but no long lasting problems. Frank

You have confused me to a degree. Where did you read this? did you misread it? or was it misprinted. You see My understanding is Terry uses the chod with a popup if he suspects that the bottom is chod/silt. The hinged stifflink with popup on clean bottoms and a braid link for bottom baits,both of the latter two have the lead tied to the swival[no clip] I know Terry wrote an artical for Angling times? that confused a lot of readers as he was taling about how he tied up the short section for hinged rigs and chods,and how one developed from the other, a lot of people took it to mean he uses the hinged rig on the helicopter. Nick as you know I often fish very low stock waters and in doing so every bite is very important. Because I live so far away from my target waters I need a head start. My watercraft often starts before I even get on the bank of a lake. I can honestly say that the last couple of lakes I have fished I have done so knowing the rigs would work from the off. I workout in my head the mechanics of each type of rig,I then match this up in my head to the type of carp/feeding, this again is worked out in my head from the type of lake I am intending to fish. Now sometimes a certain fish for one reason or another does not play ball,and you need to change things,but my last three targets have been met with a visit to the unhooking matt sooner rather than later I put this down to forward planning
