  1. I prefer to use barbed hooks unless the rules state barbless of course.
  2. As you already said it has anti tangle properties, it works over nearly all types of bottom and can be cast out when an angler is not sure of the lake bed or whats in front of him or her. It gives confidence and it works. I travel to a lot of venues for 36 and 48 hr sessions and once I have set up my unhooking mat and landing net a bright pop up goes out on a chod rig while I use my other rod to have a quick look around with a lead and float. Its all about optomising the maximum time available. Depending on what I find I will alter my rigs and baiting stratergy to suit.
  3. thats what this forum is all about
  4. Yeah the 12lb line would be ok. Your line doesnt necessarily have to sink really as you want your bait up on top of the detritus (chod) crap, rubbish and dead leaves. I fish mine naked and as light as possible. onto my main line I thread a small 4mm bead that has been punctured sideways (not through the hole) then I put my swivel on followed by another 4mm bead punctured sideways then I tie my line to a 2 or 3 oz lead depending on the distance I need to get it. my hooklength about 2" of amnesia is then tied to the swivel. the beads will slide under pressure and I can put them anywhere along my mainline. It keeps it nice and simple and it sinks slowly and rests on the top of the chod/weed etc
  5. The hook length and hook size sounds ok but why have you got a length of 20lb line ? is it tied direct to your main line? It will have a knot in it that the sinker and bead might not be able to pass over if your main line snaps. much better to have your mainline go straight through to the lead, then if you get a crack off the sinker and bead can slide off the end easily.
  6. I would ditch the bead on the hook and use a small ring instead then because youve scattered the boilies around a large area I would up the length of the rig to 12". Im like the idea of a half and half bait as it will look a bit more like the freebies. You havent used corn as a prebait so the use of one to give the bait some movement or a fleck of colour seems pointless. what colour do your baits wash out to? I would use half a pop up that matches the washed out shade. well done for putting it on the forum.
  7. do you think the change would get you more bites? Why not try one on one rod for a few sessions and see what difference it makes. One change at a time.
  8. Got any pics? I like the idea, have you tried it yet?
  9. two cats, a tank full of fish and a bearded dragon.
  10. I think we should all take a picture of our boxs and post them up. I have a small bits box and a bait tub and thats about it.
  11. then there is the Korda Krusher and the Korda Kutter and the Korda knot tying thingy and the Korda knot unpicker and the Korda boilie stops and the Korda guide to munga mix and a signed topless photo of Danny and Ali on holiday in Cap D Age.
  12. hooks, braid, mono, scissors. Simples

    Pva bags

me too, small sharp hook 3 inches of braid all stuffed in the bag.
  14. I have used diced carrot for the last three or four years and recently i have been snaffling the diced beetroot from the harvester salad bar, it makes a pleasant change from corn and it blends in a bit better with the deck so the swans dont get it either. Add the beetroot juice to your spod mix im sure it will make a great cloud.

    zig rigs

you might even get this thread back on track and mention zig rigs
  16. I have tried a double hair before. I tied a d rig set up with a rig ring then had a very short length of line going through the ring which had a loop at each end. One boilie sat on each loop. It didnt affect my catch rates as far as I was concerned.

If you use foam as the "bait" then give it a quick dip and squeeze in a glug of some sort. Where abouts are you going to?
  18. If youve got two rods that go off then you need to make a mental note to keep them in the fridge for longer....
  19. I mostly use the stuff from Carp Craze cos its cheap and you get loads.
  20. er why is filling a bit of a solid bag then putting your lead in the Korda way? Did you get a load of Korda stuff for christmas or summit lol. As you evolve along your carp career you will soon realise that Korda are not the be all and end all of carp fishing gizmos. There are other ways of catching our quarry apart from long distance spodding the granny with loads of expensive munga. Do you shout GET IN when you catch a carp ?
  21. I had one of those and there is nowt wrong with them. The fish dont care what your sleeping in do they? I donated mine to a young lad just starting carp fishing and he thinks its great. It will only get used three or four times a year.
  22. if your going to stick with what your already using then why ask the question? experiment a little, there will be lots of answers by this evening, just cherry pick those that you like and give them a try when your next out.
  23. use the one you have most confidence in. Corn is quite universal and can be used with lots of different rigs, it just depends on the style your using at the time. If I was fishing Genesis for example I would change from corn to Maize and fish it on a long hooklength of strong mono with two bits on a long hair and spod more maize over the top. If I was fishing a smallish lake in England I would just stick it in the margins on a short hooklength with two bits impaled directly on the hook (just like the old days) with a handfull over the top.
  24. dip the end of the braid in nail varnish and run it through your fingers to get the varnish into the strands, then once its dry cut the braid at an angle. Just dont ask me what I was doing when I discovered that
