  1. Hi all, after a couple of years away from carp fishing I've decided to have another go at it and was wondering what was considered to be essential in your tackle box as far as terminal tackle eg hooks and hooklink material. I'm asking this so as I don't go and waste any money on gimicks I have a rough idea as to what I want / need. I know that one man junk is another mans treasure but like I said what do you consider important/essential
  2. One way of making the medusa is to sew the maggots on to a 6-10mm polyball using fine line or make your rigs up as nomal but don't tie a loop on the hair thread a piece of fake corn, luncheon meat onto the hair and tie on a rig ring on and pull it fairly tight to the hook (a small gap of about 3-5mm)then thread about 10/20 maggots onto a length of fine line then tie these on to the rig ring don't pull this too tight as you could burst the maggots and you should end up with a bunch of maggots similar to a medusa
  3. I use either a palomar knot if I have two spliced loops or a needle not if there is only the one loop.Sorry I can't comment on the lead core in question as I don't use it
  4. just fish it like you would an anchored crust
  5. never new that about the braid and you needing to "up" the breaking strain by double that to what you would normaly use on a mono leader. Thanks and I'll bear that in mind next time I need to use one (most of my fishing is margin tactics at the mo)
  6. cool, so whatcha gonna use then or are ya just gonna carry on as you are????
  7. That's good ,that I gotcha thinking. So what was the majority of opinons from the people you asked about it.
  8. Did I getcha thinking? did I, did I?
  9. On my rigs I rarely use anything. I trap the hair to the shank of the hook by using the knotless knot, if I do feel that I need to elongate the shank like in the withy pool rig I use black heatshrink.I also use any of the coloured silicon on my hook lengths/lead arrangement because in my opinion, although the clear silicon looks good on the bank, in the water if you get any air trapped in it,it can give it a silvery appearance
  10. To attach lead core to the main line I just make a loop each end and tie the line to not let me down yet but when I use leadcore I always use it helicopter style this way if I snap up the fish has more chance to rid the lead.I know that by using lead clips the lead can be lost but the fish will still be attached to the length of lead core.

sorry forgot to say it's the swivel on the bomb that you push through the centre of the disc

nothing wrong with the other suggestions but a couple of ways I've found successful is to either make some "silt bombs" by cutting a drilled bullet in half and fixing a shapped cork from a wine bottle to it using a wire or something similar or and this depends on how far your casting cut some plastic disc's old ice cream lids will do about 50/75mm in diametre make a slot in the middle just big enough for the swivel to go through
