  1. I will leave it then, thats not my type of fishing. I would get bored of it and very, very quickly at that.
  2. Imagine the Withy Pool rig and just half the amount of shrink tube on the hook. Self explanatory really
  3. Where abouts is it in Bosworth? Im not a million miles away from it myself.
  4. The only problem you have with Navis Pit is hoping that your car is either..... A. Not on bricks when you get back to it, or B. Hoping if its still there at all. To say it was situated in a hell hole of an estate of Leicester is not stretching the truth.
  5. I cant see no reason why not. Im just unsure of the camoflauge properties of the black Amnesia over the lighter coloured bottom.
  6. They wouldnt get none of my cash full stop. The calibre of angler who fishes there is nothing more than the Argos Brigade. The fish are knackered to be honest cos i had a walk around there a few summers ago and the state of the carps mouths was nothing short of horrific and god forbid if you actually catch something. Half the lake comes running around to your swim to see what you have caught. Its about as bad as Navis Pit which is yet another dump.
  7. I will believe that when i see it. That place is a dump and it was and maybe still be run by idiots who are only in it for the £££££. IMO there is no way that place holds a fish in excess of 35lb+. I think someone maybe feeding you a line.
  8. I used to use soaked hookbaits and for the first couple of sessions not long after i put them in the container, i got results on them. But after the weeks went by i couldnt get a bite on them. I think that they were too over flavoured so i dumped the lot. I would only use them now in extreme circumstances when struggling for a bite or in winter when using singles but i wouldnt have them soaking no longer than a week. After that i would dispose of them and put some fresh ones in. And i wouldnt use soaked pop ups either, cos after a few weeks the buoyancy would be effected and they sink after a while and you end up fishing with a bottom bait instead of a pop up.
  9. I cant remember Nick. Cos i was using barbless hooks the hook fell out in the net as soon as the tension was released.
  10. There is no hard and fast rules. Heres a word for you..... experiment. Come up with your own results cos if stoogi said to you try a 5mm hair from the bottom of the bend of the hook to the bait and your results where still the same then you will have the impression that he is a crap angler and dont know what hes on about. What works for him may not work for you.
  11. Thing is though Courtz he uses mono for the hooklink. He could use a knotless knot with that but i think the bait needs to be mounted on a supple part to get the best hooking efficiency.
  12. You wanna get some hair braid (most end tackle manufacturers do a version in their range) and whip it onto the shank of the hook but its a tricky job. If you used braid then its easy cos the hair is just a continuation of the hooklink when using the knotless knot.
  13. That is what it has got to do with it. Hahahahahahaha PMSL You dummy, you should have read the quote again before posting. What Nick is saying is that when a carp sucks in a baited hook, the fish is conditioned to backing up a certain distance (usually 6-9 inches which is what he states is the length of most anglers hooklinks) to wait for the hooklink to tighten up against the weight of the lead thus "feeling" for it. A fish "feeling" for the weight of a lead has got nothing to do with a carp actually sitting on it
  14. Whats that gotta do with anything?
  15. If you are fishing hooklengths of that distance mate how about fishing a combi link of mono and a 2 or 3" section of braid near the hook? This will cut down on the risk of tangles.
  16. I honestly dont think that you need shrink tubing on flourocarbon hooklinks. The stiffness of the hooklink material coming back out of the eye of the hook will give you the desired effect you are after.
  17. Any rig that cant discharge its lead irrespective of wether it has beads either side of the lead is a death rig.
  18. Yes but you are catching fish on the Mantis arent you, so what is the problem?
  19. If you have confidence in the Mantis Gold and its working for you then why change a winning formula! You know the saying..... "if it aint broke dont fix it".
  20. You know something Kev we have noted this before at this time of year on my club lake and its happening this year as well and i think that its because its spawning season. I maybe wrong but i honestly dont think that the fish are feeding that confidently to take the bait all the way back into the mouth thats why we get so many hook pulls at this time of the year.
  21. I have just got back from a head banging 2 dayer. I had 10 takes throughout the session and i only managed to land 4 fish (and not one of them was over 5lb ). On some of the missed takes i didnt even connect with the fish on the run or the hook pulled out soon after i connected. On inspection of the hook, the point was either bent over or the hook was straightened out. The hooks im using are the barbless version of the ESP Big T Raptor. I use a small section of shrink tubing on the hook shank to help the hook flip over and to shrink this i usually immerse the hook and shrink tube in boiling water for between 5 - 10 seconds. Now here is my question..... Do you think that shrinking the tubing in boiling water for this amount of time is actually making the metal in the hook soft and this is why im losing so many fish? I also use small plastic line clips on my rods placed 6" in front of the alarm to help bite indication, is this also causing the hook to lose its hookhold rather than help create a better one? Quite a few questions guys i know but the lake really beat me up this time but im not gonna say its one of those things cos i do think that i have a real technical problem which needs addressing before the next session. Cheers lads for any help.
  22. Like Kev says, it is the exact same stuff. I can get bags of it from work for nothing.
  23. Drennan Sub Surface Green in 8 or 10lb BS.
