  1. http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=42395&highlight=undertow It's a good read
  2. I firmly believe that most carp are caught in spite of our rigs, not because of them. I've seen so many videos of carp spitting rigs out that it's a wonder we catch any at all.
  3. I've read it twice. Brilliant
  4. couldnt agree more!! Same here, but it's difficult to educate people when you have Jim Shelley advocating using 30 feet of the stuff. Slowly but surely the angling world is realising the dangers of leadcore. Our best hope is that more fisheries ban it.
  5. There's so much wrong with that post, it's hard to know where to start. So you don't fish on the surface? Or use zig rigs? In 10 years of using mono straight through, i've never lifted a scale. That can't be down to luck, 'cos believe me i'm just not that lucky. As Moorsey said, knots are far more likely to get under scales. If stretched mono were like cheese wire, i'd only land half a carp. Mine tend to be whole.
  6. Oh lordy Safe zone leaders are designed to create a safe feeding zone around the hookbait. They're not about protecting the fish. Danny says as much on one of his many videos. Either way, they're pants.
  7. Next time you're in a tackle shop, have a look at size 8 hooks from Korda, Fox, Gardner etc. They all do near identical patterns, but each hook will be different in size. I've seen size 10s that would pass for 6s

    zig rig

Hate to tell you this armadaw but I am almost certain that fishing a pop up at that depth, within a couple of hours that pop up will not be popping up any more and will be lying hard on the deck. A few years ago I did some experiments whilst diving a lake. I set various types of pop ups at various depths, down to around 15/16 feet and the results shocked me. At around 15 feet after 3 hours every pop up at that depth was sitting hard on the deck.So in 20 feet of water I would think you would be lucky to get 2 hours before that bait is sitting hard on the deck. Would a corkball pop up get around this problem?
  9. I don't think a book about aspiring to be a gentleman is for me. I read whilst sat on the loo. I suspect i'm beyond help.
  10. Rig Marole Freefall lead clips. Guaranteed to dump the lead on the take
  11. From the Rig tying sticky http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=42729
  12. Make sure you use a hook with a inturned point. This will help to stop it from going blunt on the lake bed.
  13. An old rig with a new name?
  14. 8 feet of leadcore? Seriously?
  15. I've moved this into the correct section. There's a bit of info here. Hope it helps http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=34983
  16. Leadcore has so many potential risks involved (to the fish) that it's just not worth using. The common held belief that it "hugs" the lakebed is completely wrong. If you're worried about concealing the rig, try slack lines with a blob or two of putty on it. It won't lift off the bottom, keeping it away from the fish. Have a search for death rig (click all terms) you'll be horrified at the damage even supposedly safe leadcore can do.

    leaders

Unless i'm going for 110 yards plus, i never use a leader. As a general rule i fish straight through.
  18. If the leadcore kinks just behind the tail rubber, the lead will not release.
  19. Jaws is a great read, the first chapter is brilliant. Rats was ok, as were Lair & Domain.
  20. This will help with the photos http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=36721
  21. Im like those kind of books mate, lend me one one of the times? Remind me, & i'll bring one Saturday
  22. I usually steer away from fishing books. I much prefer Dean Koontz, Richard Laymon or the like. If you're into horror/fiction, you must read The Bad Place or Intensity (both by Koontz) I have read these many times over the years, they are that good
  23. Hinged stiff rig?
  24. I agree. I also think it takes more then 5 seconds for most of us. Do we really wake on that first beep of the alarm, or just think we do? How can we really be sure?
  25. Definatly more than one hook in my packs
