http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n283/nick27g/knot.gif Is the pic thats on the link that Neil put up. It works on Braid to mono as well as Mono to Mono. I don't like the Blood Knot on Leaders as not all lines take it very well. If you have 2 lines of a similar diameter then the Water Knot is good. Not sure if I have a pic handy, will look and try to put one up later Make sure you always get the knot to the back of the spool. This reduces the possibility of Crack-offs and the Knot catching the line and cutting down distance

the f.a.l rig has any 1 heard of it befor use by ron buss
salokcinnodrog replied to beeso's topic in UK Rig Tying
Excuse Me? First point, check your grammar, it makes posts easier to read and understand! Second Point, Me, Top Angler? I have little Desire to be a Famous Top Angler. I go fishing for my own reasons. To get away from the Terrors of my Personal Life, to relax, and because I enjoy fishing. If I catch its a Bonus. I put my own effort in. I compete on MY OWN TERMS! I also don't fish the same waters or have quite the same want of Publicity. Ron Buss is a Good Angler, he has caught more Big Fish than I ever have. He also has the backing of some mighty powerful sponsors and again Good Luck to him. Third Point, I was pointing out that I have been using that same sort of rig for over 15years. Its also called a Shock rig, Running Shocker Rig, and probably more names depending on where its used. Fourth Point, Check out the other people who have seen this rig before it was re-named and re-published. Forgive the sarcasm, I have a habit of it every now and again. -
carping in norfolk and north suffolk
salokcinnodrog replied to dazzaboy's topic in UK Venues and Where to Fish
Norfolk and Suffolk have quite a bit. Waveney Valley, Yew Tree, Broome Pits, Ditchingham Pit, Weybread Pits Camelot Lakes all around the Bungay, Harleston and Wortwell area. If you type in any of the above as a Search you should find that they all come up and probably with Contact Details and many on the same threads. Taverham Mills, Cobbleacre, Shallowbrook and Ringland all around the Norwich area. Again type any of them in as a search and most will come up. Hope that helps Nick -
No, you can pay silly money to get it from Nash as Nash Dental Floss or you can buy ESP Hair Braid. The other alternative is to tie a Uni knot at the end of your Braid and then put a Bait in the Loop and pull it tight. Knotless Knot your hook on with the hair length you require. Its then an easy enough job to put a fresh bait in whenever you need to. The Bait doesn't pull out even on a Hard cast as the Knot can be pulled just breaking the skin of the Bait.
-
There is resistance as soon as the fish moves off with the Bait anyway with a Semi-Fixed Lead. Its that resistance that causes them to Bolt! Carp must be used to some resistance as they pick up their food, as Mussels and snails are often on the weed or on the bottom, so as they are sucked or picked up the resistance will not particularly worry the Carp in my opinion
-
Few ways around this, use the split shot on the Hair itself, or create another small hang from the Hair and attach the putty/shot to that. Pic of that in here:http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=22185 I use either Kryston Heavy Metal myself or the Solar Equivalent (its the same stuff). I know that some people do get on well with the Gardner. The alternative is to get your pop-ups less buoyant. It may mean trimming them down (which is a good way to increase the Attraction of them), or go to the Snowman Rig using a Bottom bait as a Counterbalance. I used to use Stack rigs with 4 8mm Boilies on the Hair and a Cork Ball 2nd from the top. For some reason that produced an awful lot of fish in the winter
-
I think I would have preferred that than having to deal with what is going on!
-
LOL All good plans come to naught! Had to stay in to deal with a problem caused by the Ex. Have now got the kids tomorrow and Fishing Monday, and Wednesday and Thursday (I hope)
-
Put what you need onto one spool first then fill to the brim with Backing. Then Transfer to the 2nd spool. Whole lot easier if your reels have a spare spool supplied If you don't then get the backing for as many spools as possible done first. Incidentally Ordinary String is a Good Backing

Standard Preservatives include Sugar, Salt, both can be added, but you won't really get much additional time out of them. (couple of days) The best Preservative for making Bait last longer is Nutrabaits Preservabait, but even then you won't increase the Life by much unless you AirDry them. The preservatives used in Shelf Lifes are things like Potassium Sorbate, which I don't trust, even in MY Food!

Very true! If you can camouflage your rigs so that all you can see is the bait then the rig is more likely to get picked up. You then have to have a Good Hooking Arrangement. It may mean that you "Strike" into the fish rather than relying on "Self hooking rigs", but it can be a lot more effective than not knowing if you have had a Pick-up or not.

It doesn't matter what size.
-
It doesn't matter what size the Baits you use as long as one is a pop-up and makes the rig do what you want. As for Which way round you fish the Pop-up the standard way is to have the Pop-up on the outside end, but sometimes the Carp can get wary of this and so switch them round. For some reason the pop-up fished nearest the hook often produces bigger fish than the standard presentation when the Carp are wary. There is another thread about on the Reverse Snowman if you have a search. There was also an article published in CarpWorld with the advantages of fishing it the reverse way round.

I switched to Combi Rigs for a Few sessions this year. Amnesia as the Boom section and either Merlin or Super-Nova as the Supple section of the Hooklink and to be honest they did not outfish my standard Braided Hooklinks at all. The only benefit I found was that the rig did not tangle, but since I had no Tangle problems with my Normal Braided Hooklinks it was not a Noticeable advantage. Saying that I did not get much fishing in down to Personal Problems, so it deserves a Real test next year

Hi Mate, Welcome to the forum What is a good rig to use anywhere? It comes down to what works for you. I have used pretty much the same rigs for over 15years and still catch on them! If you look at the rigs Sticky at the top of the page there are a few pics and a how to tie basic rigs
-
Its a Cyanoacrylate, exactly the same as SuperGlue. Same as Nash Rig Glue, Kryston rig glue etc.
-
I agree with most of your points, but the exception is using Rig Glue on Leadcore. Rig Glue can actually make the Leadcore more brittle and likely to crack off, as it can on other knots. I don't need to Glue any of my knots and I test them properly before casting out. My Splices are not glued as the Leadcore grips itself. I'm not worried about losing gear, its the safety factor that worries me, and using something that could actually create more possible weak spots is something that I can do without. There is a thread somewhere about SuperGlue and knots that I started

Anyone fished Lake Laroussi in France?

Grinner/Uni knot for Braid and Mono. Never had a Problem with that Knot!

The Majority of Anglers at the Moment are using rigs between 6-9inches long. Just being different and fishing longer or shorter than the "Usual" can cause the Carp some confusion. Short Rigs work best over Beds of Bait or Bags where the Carp is hoovering up the Bait and you need to make them run to get some indication
-
The Shortest was about 2.5cms long. The longest was 3metres for Zig Rigging. For a bait fished on the Bottom though, the longest I have used is about 60cms

Agree with you Nick. I first seen this "shocker" type rig publicised in Carp World by an angler called Chris Haswell, like you said maybe 15 years ago. I know it was published before that as well in Hutchy's The Carp Strikes Back, which is circa 1983. Chris Haswell admitted that he had heard of it before publishing it. Danny Farebrass published it in The Korda Rig Guide which is at least 10years old(?) -
same here realy as it has been said a lot of rigs and tackle is to catch the angler rather than the carp keep it simple but right and you will catch Think some anglers cause themselves problems by using all singing all dancing rigs with regards to presentation,I think emphasis placed on location in mags etc would be more beneficial than having 3-4 pages of rig clinics where 99% of times a simple line aligner would suffice. I agree with that Mate, The other thing that they don't put enough emphasis on is feeding and how different rigs work best on a Particular Feeding situation. The mags all seem to be making a Meal out of Rigs, but not enough on feeding situation and how a particular rig behaves in that situation. Short Rigs IMO work best on a Bed of Bait; groundbait and particles/pellets, than long rigs. Yet not enough is explained on that. On the Rigs Sticky, the rigs pictured, its easy enough to make longer. Remove Braid from swivel at knot and then tie on Additional length of approx Double the Hooklength as it stands. From a Basic Rig you have gone onto a slightly more Complicated Combi rig. It does work! For those who haven't seen it type in Complicated Rigs as a Search, or go into Advanced Carp Fishing and Page down, and it will bring up a long thread about Rigs and their Behaviour, Lead arrangements and other things. BEWARE THOUGH, this is a long thread where some real in-depth thought provoking ideas are aired. It can be a Headache inducing thread

Must admit I don't find the Thickness of the Greased Weasel a Problem. Wonder if its because I try to fish as Slack as Possible, and know that at Extreme Range the Line will have curved and be running along the Lake Bed anyway? I can't get on with the Clear for Shockleaders, its too stiff, Weird I know. Everyone has what suits them best and Black suits me!
