  1. Oh Oh! Have a read of this: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=26640 I'm certain I say it in there. With a Slack line, and a Running Lead, when you get a take, the line pulls tight, the fish is running, it does not stop when the line pulls tight to the Rod/reel. Why should the Carp take line off the Bait runner? you should have struck the run before then, even if you haven't the set-up still works well It is the slack line and heavy lead that creates the running situation. You don't need to go up to 4or5 oz, I use 3oz (Flat or Bottle Leads). A lighter lead than that in most cases is unlikely to stay still on the take. You don't need to have tension to move the roller, because the tension comes when a fish starts to run. You do not need to have any indicator on the line at all. I use Running Leads for Night Fishing, and don't have to sit by my rods. Yes I use Delkims, but my Mate uses either Giant alarms or Ron Thompson's (can't remember which) which have a wheel, and does the same as me. You hit the run before it takes line from the reel (or should), even if you don't the fish is still likely to be on the line. The Lead is free-running up the line, so there should be no possibility of the Carp using the weight of the lead to eject the hook. If you are worried about not having a True Running set-up then use a shocker set-up, again, indicator straight down, no tension on the line, then you get a run, the fish moves the set distance then the Run Ring hits a bead (stop-knot, whatever), you then get a continued Semi-Fixed set-up with the Lead offering resistance. If you have your indicator dropped straight down, and the slack line you stil get the indication. Seriously I use the Running Lead set-up on a large water and small waters.
  2. Even with that Pendant lead attachment, if the lead has a swivel then it will behave slightly differently from a lead without one, or correctly there is a slight difference in the pivot point and point of resistance between the two.
  3. LOL! Try this for a poser... If everyone fishes with a 2oz lead then going down to a 1oz may totally confuse the fish, alternatively going up to 3 or 4 oz may work. A 1oz Lead may not sound much, but if the Carp are used to 2oz and are feeling for it, then the resistance from 1oz is different, and be less, as a result the Carp may go back to running again. Whatever you are trying to do you are trying to confuse the Carp. Its not just down to lead size on losing fish; Your rigs have to be right as well. A hookpull can be down to the rig being too short, the hair may not be long enough, or even you have too much or too little bait in the area. You've got to play around with other things as well, consider all the possibles. If you/everyone else is using the same method, PVA Bag with 4-6inch hooklink then the Carp may be used to the situation. Just by increasing the bait in the area, or changing the length of the hooklink may create a different scenario that the Carp are not used to dealing with. Also Stoogi has pointed something out that may be worth expanding on, a Flat Lead may offer more resistance than a Tournament or Pear shaped Lead which could roll on a take, so a Flat 2oz lead may be all you need to do to convert a dropped take or hookpull into a fish on the bank. Even a Pendant Set-up may not be providing enough Bolt effect, the Lead Clip and lead attachment may be rolling or moving slightly, so it could be a case of going to an Inline set-up. This last week I had 1 hookpull, from the feel of the Carp it was too small to take the bait into its mouth and was just holding the boilie. So question for you, do I change the rig or lead after just 1 lost fish? Answer for you, or my thoughts NO!
  4. There is a very good saying in Life, KISS, Keep it Simple Stupid. Get the location on and the simplest rig will catch. Most of my fish from this week came on something like this: A Basic Braid Rig: How simple is that?
  5. Lot in the thread that Tony has mentioned. Will admit I've not had the problem of Line lifteng scales either. My tubing tends to be about 5cms longer than the Rig in most cases. If I want to camouflage the end tackle, or protect the line against snags, gravel or flint though it can be as long as 1600mm
  6. That's the reason I don't like the place. How can I expect to walk around the lake each day looking for fish if I can't be sure it's safe when I'm gone.
  7. Can I suggest you read the thread from start to finish?
  8. As simple as tying a piece of weed to your line at the swivel and hook. You can trap the weed under the knotless knot as you tie the hook on. Personally I don't bother, my hooklinks look camouflaged enough in the water with the materials I use. I do get into the water at times to check as well But if you think you need to do it and it gives you confidence then try it, maybe on 1 rod and with an ordinary uncovered hooklink on the other and see which produces most
  9. Forgot or didn't know? Helicopter, silt rig, semi-fixed pendant and Inline lead, all forms of Bolt rig: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=22185 Also almost anything that uses a lead clip held over the hooklink swivel
  10. Not sure on the actual make-up of the bottom of the bottom lake, other than the areas around the Pump/rope and the margins along there. I tend to only fish it as an occasional, and not for a while as I have a couple of other waters on the go at the moment. Sorry Mate, you'll have to get the marker rod out at some point to find the depths of the middle of the lake. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to map out the bottom lake other than visually near the snags as there were people fishing when I was down there
  11. Was playing with something similar a while ago. I wanted a bottom bait on the shank and a way of lifting the hook up above the bait near the point. Basically I wanted a variation of what I think Jan Wenckza called the "over rig", where the hook was lifted above the bait. Pop-up maize/corn on the "point" hair, bottom bait on the shank. You may be onto something with a pop-up on the shank and a bottom bait on the point as well, although the mechanics may take some thinking about and explaining. No, not more to play with
  12. Welcome to the forum It may pay to go through the Sticky at the top of the French fishing section: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=19962 Lakes and Fisheries in France and see if anything suits. Can you please avoid Capitals on the forum, its seen as shouting/being aggressive
  13. The bottom lake is a lot harder than the top lake. The usual places the Carp show in the summer are not the same as the winter because of the depth of the lake. The places for the summer tend to be near the rope/pump swim and around the margins. It is hard work to find the fish in the winter, it may be worth trying a Zig Rig from the bottom up to the top until you can find the Carp Baitwise for a long time both lakes have been fishing well on Trigga, Trigga Pellets. I have an idea of the largest Carp in the lake, but its not a confirmed, and I haven't spoken to the person who told me for a while so I can't confirm yea or nea unfortunately
  14. Is that the Maggot Clips or the Medusa or maggot presentation?
  15. Have a look at the dates of the link: Team Screaming Delkims 2005 Look closely at the beads. If the lake is clear then they may be able to get off the Leadcore. The one that the swivel is on also looks like a bead that splits into 2, so the swivel can release the rubber stop holding it in place may also slide up and down the leadcore. Either way Leadcore not my favourite stuff after loads of experiments and that does look a bit "dodgy".
  16. Whoa, where did that come from?? Your geographical knowledge was never in question... lol, I know just in case someone thought I was being smart and saying that Epping and Basildon were right next to each other. Epping, the place where I was born and Southend the place where London escapees go for a holiday. Even worse I had to work on Canvey Island! I do know that there are a few lakes in Epping Forest area, and I also know about a few near the M25 closer to Basildon, unfortunately I can't divulge that many. If you come up as far as Ingatestone you have Fryerning Fisheries, not sure if that is full yet, but it is expensive. Have a look at Essex Grange, Arena and Aquatels though. I know some have been mentioned in the past on here
  17. I'm not totally sure of all the advantages of a Combi Link to be honest. I do know that the top stiffer section reduces tangles, and also lays the hooklink flat. At a new water this year I couldn't hook a Carp on my standard braided hooklinks, and I had to play around until I got a presentation the Carp would take. I ended up with Combi links that seemed to settle on top of the weed, or just as nicely on the clear patches. If you go to http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=22185 there are a couple of pics of Combi Links in there. I use Amnesia for the Top section and whatever Braid I feel comfortable with for the hook section
  18. Another one for you. Silicon Tubing is softer than most rig tubing (a pain in the butt to thread though), so lays down on the Lakebed more naturally. It does fit into most Protecta style beads To break up the outline on green silicon go over it with a Permanent Marker Pen in patches and weird shapes. Specially thought out to keep the less intelligent busy for a while Actually it does work
  19. As good as Fishery Owners are, don't forget they will get into Self Publication. Are any of the Lakes that are mentioned in this thread any good: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=19962 It is the French Lakes and Fisheries Sticky from the top of the section. Most of the lakes mentioned have a website address in here, or in most cases a phone number and e-mail. If you go through the Forum with a search on the particular lakes mentioned then I'm sure you may find some information and threads on them.
  20. Just set an hour aside for searching Re Particular lakes, In that case specify a particular Lake Also you are going to find it very difficult to get info on particular syndicate lakes in that Basildon/Epping area. Some are very closed shop, and not a lot is given away. So the only way is to specify a particular Lake. Don't correct me on the difference in locations, I know Epping is inside M25, close to Theydon Bois, Loughton, Buckhurst Hill etc, and Basildon is the other side near to Southend.
  21. Recommendation, try putting Essex Waters in as a Search. Essex waters as a search brings up 104 threads There are a few clubs mentioned, Sudbury and District, CAPS, Kelvedon and District. I know that there are plenty of threads about Essex Waters. You may also need to stipulate North or South Essex
  22. Keep it simple, have a search round the forum, cos the same question keeps coming up and the same answers keep getting posted. The one that works!
  23. Can you give an idea of location, county or nearby, and is that the correct spelling? Other people may know it by another name Only querying as it may show up on the search, (although if it is right I know it won't!)
  24. If it works for you and the fish accept the bait like that then its a good idea. Put it this way... You have to try it to find out
