dayvid reacted to kevtaylor in Fishing like Chris Yates
I think experienced anglers will always look to do a bit of stalking when they can, be it floaters or on the deck.
One thing I don't look at with rose tinted glasses is the rubbish tackle he uses, thank goodness that side has progressed, I'd give up if that was my set-up, useless.

dayvid reacted to Rixxy2008 in First trip to France
I've had a look at genesis n doesn't seem half bad I think the option I'd like to take is maybe drive to Pompey or southampton or Dover then get a bus over so we can relax on the journey over into France so that leaves bounty and dreamlakes that I know of also I think Jurassica is one but then don't you to do peg draws on the water with other members of the bus wen I'd like to maybe get next to the old man on a double peg I never realised how hard this decision could be if I'm honest there's so much planning involved haha

If its what you want get them , i would never entertain them at that price.
I very rarely use sticks , i mainly just use marker elastic.

What's wrong with an ordinary pair of banksticks?
More money being fleeced from carp anglers with carp tax!

dayvid reacted to salokcinnodrog in Hook sharpening.
I actually question sharpening hooks for fishing.
If a brand of hook is not sharp enough, don't use them!
If you sharpen a hook, then you are actually increasing the chance of the extra sharpened hook cutting or pulling its way free, potentially increasing hookpulls.
Add to that, obviously you know that you the finer the point the more chance of it being blunted, or bending over.
I don't think that my hooks need sharpening, I use them straight out the packet.
A few years ago now, I put a hook on a rig, and cast it out. That hook caught me a 26lb mirror. I then took that same rig back to a local water, where it was used again, and landed a load more fish until I eventually lost or blunted it.
In between fish it was rebaited, recast no sharpening.
Since then I have landed hundreds of fish from a variety of waters on hooks straight out of the packet.
As an aside for you, ask yourself, you know some tackle is sold to make money for tackle manufacturers, there is no need for it; how much do I really need to sharpen hooks so going out and buying a hook sharpening kit...

dayvid got a reaction from dalthegooner in Whats the point in a bait runner reel?
I guess Bait runners are for Noddys and us really good mega anglers use Big pits .
I have Bait runners and used many years ago, then i could not imagine ever using anything else , Big pits seemed to much faffing around , i now have Big pits and have been using them for years and now could not imagine using bait runners again.
They are both as good as one another and do the same job equally as well, IMO its just personal choice.

dayvid reacted to Gazlaaar in Whats the point in a bait runner reel?
Nobody is letting anything run, it's no different than setting a front drag to do the same job as a bait runner, I just prefer a bait runner,

I cant emphasize enough , once you have an electric barrow you can take everything all the time

dayvid reacted to Gazlaaar in spod/spomb help
The mini should be good enough mate, a little trick to bare in mind, and this is only because I'm a right old scrooge, if you make a bad cast, slow the cast down with your fingers and you can almost lay the spomb down onto the surface, this way it won't open and youll save on bait lol

dayvid got a reaction from adamkitson in Fox supa brolly 60"
Dont keep the small poles attached to the bivvy screwed on all the time , ,i understand they will rub the material away if you do, unscrew them when packing up and screw back on when starting

dayvid got a reaction from spr1985 in Fox spomb
The pin has been fixed , on the newer ones .
I have used the Fox spomb , it flies very well and straight ,opens every time for me ,so i cant fault it their ,my only problem with it is once open the heavier side where you put your bait digs in to the water and can make it a pain to retrieve.
So i shall be carrying on with the original Spomb and the Fox will be a back up
