I use my teeth to strip back about two inches from the hook. Nice and supple, but with a relevantly stiff rest of the hooklength.
I got the esp tungsten loaded that was quite easy to strip just used my thumb nail.
Brilliant stuff for typing rigs well impressed.

A few things come into play imo. how big a loop you want on the hair, how many times you want to wrap around the shank, how much stripped braid you want leaving the eye of the hook, what size bait/hair length.
Trial and error really, but once you are settled on a favourite rig/presentation and tried tying a few, you'll soon get a feel for how much to strip off.
Some good pointers there thanks very much.
So thats just what I did I have tyed hair rigs before in mono so I new what lengths I wanted, what hooks I was using and what length hairs I wanted.
So just had a play around with different lengths of striping until I got just what I was looking for.
So notes now made so next batch I make should be more straightforward.
Thanks Yonny and B.C

Completely down to personal preference buddy. I have been known not to strip any. A good starting point is 10 or 20 mm behind the hook.
Do you strip the full hair or the section above the hook?

Another nooby question as regards to striping the coating on the coated braid.
I'm trying some nice and basic hair rigs size 6 hooks, how much of the coating do you strip off.

Like I say, I paid £19.99 for mine off of ebay literally 2 weeks ago to go on my spare spools for France in the Summer.
A bulk spool easily fills 3 XT-A medium longcast reels, with plenty left over for hooklink duties if required.
Another plus point of the 15lb is that it pushes through rig tubing a lot (lot) easier than the 12lb!!
I am using a very thin tubing from MCF products, called "Hugger". It really is a fantastic product, a bit heavier than others I have used, and as I say, extremely thin so it's really easy to push into lead clips etc. It's also the most supple I have purchased, so will hug the lake bed brilliantly (hence the name "Hugger" I guess lol!)
Another Smiffy recommendation lads........ http://mcftackle.co.uk/product.php?id=107
The 15lb goes through it a treat, first time, every time. Makes life a bit easier that does!!
I don't know if I'm being a bit slow here or what but I've clicked on your link for mcf tackle but I can't seem to find any prices.
Am I being a bit thick or what?

Hi finchey....
I haven't used it in winter but will do so this year. I did do one majorly wet session a few weeks ago and it was the first time I've felt it was a little pokey.... it's based on a 50 inch umbrella so isn't massive. I used it in BIG winds this week just gone and it was fine, although I did fit a single storm pole to give it a helping hand.
I'd say you need to be dedicated to use it in winter. It's more of a summer shelter IMO.
It is a brolly system I'm after.
I suppose it's a question of which is the best for all year round use.
Having a bivvy and a brolly isn't really a choice for me so I'll spend some time and a bit more research before I part with my cash.
Thank for opinion yonny much appreciated.

Hi yonny.
Been having a look at these they do look smart.
My Nash 60" oval is on it last legs so I was thinking about one of these.
But I was wondering have you used yours in the winter or just the summer.
If you haven't used in the winter in your opinion would you say it was suitable for winter use or more of a summer shelter.
I don't fish in storm conditions but I do fish in strong winds and heavy rain.
Thanks Keith.

Ive asked everybody i know about the above...wrightington Old Pond(s) near the hospital and know body knows if you can fish it, both sides of the bridge.
It looks awsome in summer...but with it being an estate lake...house right at back...i wouldnt know what to do.
If anybody is on from the North West with any info...it would be awsome.
I have driven over and stopped a few times...fish(BIIIIG) cruising on top in summer.

I don't know for sure but i read somewhere, l think it was another forum but I can't for the life me remember were because I read that much on the net I forget were I see stuff.
But I do remember reading that the old pond is a private syndicate of 5 friends of the owner of the house you can see from the road.
The larger lakes on the other side of the road is private no fishing at all.
Many years ago it used to be on the Wigan ticket I do remember that as a kid.
I think I may of seen it on the maggot drowners forum.
Have a look on there mate you might find out more information.

George is a cocker cross cavalier so he loves sniffing about in the bushes chasing birds and stuff, however the cavalier side means it doesn't last long before he is laying down on my bed trying to get fussed.
On our first trip fishing he fell in stepping on weed instead of land and that put him off water ever since which is great because you don't want a wet dog jumping all over the bed.
George is a lovely looking dog and he sounds like the perfect fishing conpanyon.

I just wish I could take Flint with me when I go fishing but to be honest he's 5 years old but he's a typical Springer he thinks he is still a pup.
He's mad as a hatter he car'nt sit still for longer than 2 minutes and if he's near water then there's no chance of keeping him out of it.
I don't think I'd be very popular with other angler's with him running around diving in the lake every chance he got.

Defo nylon bud.
The aerosol is decent, I use it for smaller items. You'll probs juts about get away with a single can ftor a brolly.
Cheers yonny,
I'll give it a blast my brolly has never been treated and it's 15+ years old.
I think it might be ready.
Saying that it's never let me down.

Could anyone tell me if the aerosol version of this product is any good or am I better with the stuff you mix.
I only have a 60" oval so I thought a couple of aerosols would do me.

Do you cast with the reel seat in your left or right hand? I found when I was using the handles on the left, I would still have to cast with the reel seat in my left hand lol
I cast with reel seat in my right hand.
I am a full lefty.
Funny thing is a play the odd game of pitch and putt or crazy golf with the kids and I play that right handed as well.
How weird am I.

I'm right handed and always have my reel handles on the left hand side.
My brother in law is also right handed but prefers the handles on the right hand side!!
Is he weird, or am I?????
Sounds like your brother in law is fishing left handed.
Now I'm left handed and I fish with handles on left, which is right handed style.
So it's not just me that's weird.
