    Back to pastures old

I keep thinking this is the one this weekend, every weekend I think that lol, when is one of those bigguns going to get netted? . surely I havent used up all my lives and they have slipped my grasp, I'm getting proper addicted at the moment, I want to be there all the time, I am buzzing like an old fridge, because I am going today to try and tempt one, I have an overnighter locked and loaded, just the usual anxiety that the swim is available now, just need the green light from Mrs P and I'm away they saw bait Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday this week, cos I am letting my foot off the gas, so they know its there just hope they visit today 😬 Tight lines all

  3. I went through a series of hookpulls years ago on Fox Series 2's in size 6 and 8. During the fight the hook was opening out enough to pull free, and then springing back into shape. It was only when one stayed 'straight' that I figured what was happening. The fish were fighting very hard, in a silty water, from the off, normally hooked close to the rods. My usual course of action on hookpulls is to lengthen the hair, working on my theory; Hooked at the extreme edge of the mouth/lip, getting hookpulls then lengthen the hair. Hooked deep down in the mouth shorten the hair. Dead centre of the lip, perfick. While this is all well and good, sometimes simply increasing the amount of free bait around the hookbait can also improve your hookholds.

  4. Depends on the test curve of the rods you are using, if your rods are 3lb TC a lead between 2-4 oz would be ideal anything more would bottom the rod out, anything less will not load the correct tension in the rod leading to more violent jolting takes and pulled hooks if the rods are on the stiff side.

    Losing the lead!?

That's some balancing act your looking for there. Think you need to look at from the direction that if you do get snagged whilst playing a fish would you want it to be stuck dragging a lump of lead around if and when it frees itself Personally I think that losing a few quid is better than the fish it's life
