dave_askew Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 right im useing this rig in essence but hooklink material is drennan super specialist braid as hooklink material and its getting tangled around the swivel and the quick change clip is it my casting or problem with my set up Quote
jpole Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 well if you put a pice of pva on or you could use a anti tangle sleeves Quote
jake5 Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Change your hooklink mate,im sure its that,i had some similar stuff to that which kept tangling on the cast Quote
dave_askew Posted February 9, 2009 Author Report Posted February 9, 2009 think i will do so any recomendations easy to tie none tangle stuff ? should it be coated Quote
jpole Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 coated is good for not tangling and you could use a combi-link hooklink but i still like 2 use some pva on it to make sure it not going 2 tangle Quote
nicksingleton Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Kryston super stiff applied to the hooklink could be an option,as well as p.v.a tubing with the link passed through it. Quote
spiv Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Just as the lead hit`s the water, stop the line on the spool with your fingertip and the rig should kick away from the lead. Let the lead hit the bottom on a tight line and it should be ok with what your using. Quote
dave_askew Posted February 9, 2009 Author Report Posted February 9, 2009 i only use super stiff on pop ups never thought of it on normal cheers for the tips guys i want a new hooklink anyway so ill try that and the casting and if not the superstiff it is cheers guys see thats why i love this site so much Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 The Drennan Super Specialist Braid is very thin for a braid, actually quite like cheesewire, definitely not my favourite hooklink material. It cuts deeply especially when you get tangled up in it I tend to use Braids for most of my fishing, and nearly always use PVA either as a bag, mesh or stringer. If you use mesh, then you can attach one end to your Lead clip (whether Running or Semi-fixed), and the other end to the hook, or just the hook. If you use a bag you can put the whole hooklink inside (and the lead for longer distance). As for stringers, attached to the Mainline swivel, the lead clip again, or the hook. Have fun with these https://forum.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=27183 https://forum.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=32920&highlight=pva It may also be tangling when you reel in, and not when casting. As you pick up the rod and move the lead you may be popping it into the middle of the rig, which then wraps around the lead and clip. Feathering the cast may also help Quote
carperdude3d Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 a small pva bag or a small stringer should solve it mate or when fishing singles use a stiffer hooklink material or could make these kind of sleeves that kicks the hook link out during flight tight lines boss Quote
jemsue5 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Dave, try something like fox cortex it is a coated braid but really easy to strip a few inches back giving you a combi link effect and some movement at the hook end. Add a anti tangle sleeve from korda, fox etc and tangles will become a thing of the past my friend. If by some chance you still have problems a small pva bag or two bait stringer will help as well. dave_askew Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 just been the tackle shops and was lookin at this braid and the esp coated ones just out of interest how do you strip the coat off ??? Quote
jemsue5 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Both the esp and the fox one is easy to strip with your fingers. Quote
zander1 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 As others have said, use a shorter hooklink and pull the hooklink through a pva bag etc and then put twist the hook through some of the mesh and add a nugget of foam, if your hooklink is too long just put the hook in the pva bag/stick etc lower down Tangles will be a thing of the past Quote
jake5 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 As others have said, use a shorter hooklink and pull the hooklink through a pva bag etc and then put twist the hook through some of the mesh and add a nugget of foam, if your hooklink is too long just put the hook in the pva bag/stick etc lower down Tangles will be a thing of the past Even with that kind of material,i think he's still gonna get tangles with a shorter hooklink, like i said i had somesimilar stuff, and no matter what i done,it kept geting in a tangle Quote
zander1 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I know where your coming from Jake, it took me ages to get it right- ( I uses e-s-p sink link which is nion the same) its just perseverance mate, keep trying and you will get it right, practise makes perfect. My fishing leaves a lot to be desired but im tackling one thing at a time and ill get to where i want to be eventually with my own fishing. but you don't get 'out for nu'fin combi links are easier to use tho and im going to use them more this year Quote
louismiller Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 Both the esp and the fox one is easy to strip with your fingers. Or, if like me you totally fail at using fingernails, teeth or any other other part of the human anatomy to strip it. Korda (and I'm sure others) do a tool for it; you thread your line through, put it into the groove, pull and voila, stripped braid. Quote
nash_gadgeteer Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 If you open to suggestion change your hooklink material to Fox Coretex to give you a stiff combi link and supple tip (comes in various colours) and use a Fox or Korda quick change sleeve to push over the hooklink and swivel to push the hooklink away from the lead. Give it a try..... Plus feather you cast down or clip up and follow through with the rod, this will push out the hookbait away from the lead and then you lay the rig down on the surface of the water and not have it diving away and tangling.
