InteraX Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 As the title says, what tackle brands do you miss that are either defunct or have refocused away from carp fishing. Personally, I miss the greys and chub stuff. They had some brilliant equipment and clothing. I know greys still have a small range left, but it seems like they're not really interested in anything except fly fishing these days. Quote
framey Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 Most of the chub stuff I had was or is pretty good I still have an S plus 1 man bivvy a rod holdall the padded one with cover in the top the Highly sought after one. a couple of carryall type bags a ruck sack A boilie cool bag and a couple of method mix bags I think. probably more I can’t remember north western pfluger (sp) winfield 3 I miss lol Quote
yonny Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 It's shame MPE Tackle shut up shop on the bankware to focus on general engineering. Imo still the best gear there ever was. Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted September 20, 2024 Report Posted September 20, 2024 Chub made some brilliant unhooking mats. I still use one myself, it's easier to use than the Cabrio Monster Cradle mat I have. Sadly them, Greys and Hardy being bought up and combined under the Pure Fishing banner meant that the names are in existence, but almost defunct. North Western, a real rod maker, the first specific carp rods I bought that I could hit 100yards with ease, a pair of 2½lb and Abu Ultracast Cardinals, 8lb Platil or Sylcast and 20lb Amnesia and a 2½oz lead, and pike rods in the winter. Sadly stolen from my shed back in the 1990's. 4 hours ago, InteraX said: Personally, I miss the greys and chub stuff. They had some brilliant equipment and clothing. Pure only wanted them for the fly fishing business which shows on the current websites and product lines. On their brands page they only list greys, Hardy's and JRC, Chub isnt even listed. I have a Hardy's marksman supero 11ft 6 float that is fantastic. I remember reading they were testing out some carp rods at one point. They had a sample on display at a trade show or similar in europe and someone stole it. Those could have been interesting. Quote

I think my dad still has and uses some bait boxes from them. Edited September 21, 2024 by InteraX Quote

I think my dad still has and uses some bait boxes from them I remember Efgeeco, you bringing them up made me Google them. Apparently Efgeeco comes from Fred Goddard and Co, who were tackle manufacturers based in Balham, London. I seem to recall having Efgeeco landing and keep nets and one of my first spinning rods when I was around 11 or 12 was by Efgeeco. That's a story in itself and was also my first pike encounter! I was fishing Abbey Bridge weir on the River Dove in Eye, but my gudgeon and dace kept getting nicked, often just reeling in a hookless line, so I went and bought a spinning rod and some small Mepps spinners. Second cast I hooked a jack, and got it to the bank and not knowing better grabbed the eye of the treble by hand and twisted it free, no problems, no silly hook in hand, but realised after, not the best way to unhook a pike. I then went and pinched a pair of forceps from our vet... Quote

I remember it eventually stopped being waterproof and I used to have to wear a ski jacket on top if I went fishing in the rain just to keep nearly dry. Quote
