I will probably eventually try something with aniseed to compare the difference on I actually start catching. Not sure if I've been fishing or camping lately lol If you get some bird foods they have suet or fat pellets in them, and they definitely become a sticky congealed mess if you boil them up. I've been camping, swearing at swans and pike...

Not a bait expert but I know my particle mix came from Hinders, I did think it was good at that time. I've bought prepared from Kent Particles which were OK and my mate recently bought his Tigers etc from Blakes Baits. Thanks for the recommendation I will try the bucktons when I've actually managed to boil some particles and not burn them 😔. Will check out blakes for the tigers, just need to find a decent price on hemp. I fed him plenty of dog biscuits in the end n he'd get full n go away for abit 🤷🏽♂️, the pike aint gone nowhere though. Atleast it's camping with a view lol. Most campers just look at a field of tents.

I don't think any hemp is as good as it was a few years ago. I do my particles in a big pan on the cooker. Bring to the boil and then turn down to as low as it will go for around 15minutes. I often add extra water before I boil it so no chance of it boiling dry
mrmud
Should I have boiled the conditioner in fresh water or was it okay to boil it in the same water I soaked it in. Asking as the water don't look the best of colours after boiling I use the same water it's soaked in mate 👍the color afterwards is all the juices/oils etc, when I prep my particle to freeze I drain all the particles and put the liquid in a bottle to freeze as well, then when defrosting ill add it back 👍 mrmud and salokcinnodrog 1

mrmud
Thanks everyone. Am I better keeping it all with a covering of juice whilst it's in the bucket or leave it with no juice(does it keep better) Would rather ask on here as there's so much conflicting info on the twinternet. For example hinders say to add salt to the soaking process but I've thought salt causes issues with splitting 🤷🏽♂️ I've kept the juice from the hemp, tigers, conditioner and I've soaked the cut maize in the water I boiled the maize in Edited September 12 by mrmud elmoputney

I prep up hemp and pigeon conditioner for 4/5 day sessions; the first 2 days buckets have no extra water, the last 2 I leave extra water in. If hemp dries out it will float, so the water prevents that. mrmud
elmoputney
I like to leave some liquid in my particles, I find they keep better wet. I also tend to add molasses after cooking too. Then they start to ferment after a little while. mrmud

framey
If it’s the aniseed version I can’t see the point in adding molasses to it personally if it is plain then Yes but each to their own you could also just mix some marmite with hot water and get that yeasty effect never neglect the cupboards at home for alternative liquids or powders jh92, salokcinnodrog and mrmud

If it ain't broke and all that. Plus 5l of marmite would cost a hell of a lot more 😂 Also I don't use the aniseed mix, I don't think this one is either as its the same one I use. jh92
jh92
I like adding tinned milk like condensed milk and evaporated milk. The juices from cooked hemp create a nice flat spot too 👍 mrmud

Like I said don’t neglect the store cupboard lol Would only need a teaspoon or 2 5l would last a lifetime If you are not using the aniseed version then yes no problems adding something to it of course. ( try butyric acid… ) At the end of the day you are happy using it then that is all that matters 👍 Edited September 13 by framey

Me, I like the aniseed and don’t see any need to alter it. again, it’s just confidence. possibly, maybe, it’s because my all time favourite boilie flavour is bun spice from SBS from the 90’s. I like the “spicy” elements in my mixes rather than sweet.

Bream, like carp will eat what is easiest to find and what they want to feed on. 14 hours ago, framey said: Me, I like the aniseed and don’t see any need to alter it. again, it’s just confidence. possibly, maybe, it’s because my all time favourite boilie flavour is bun spice from SBS from the 90’s. I also think liquid liver is a great liquid, but I don't want to guzzle it myself. Also if you want to make molasses spicy raid your store cupboard. Plenty of powders you could add, chilli, cumin, paprika, turmeric, fenugreek, garlic, Chinese 5 spice, Mollasses guzzling common ⬇️ commonly, mrmud and barry211

Add to that, put out boilies with a throwing stick, you don't tend to create enough attraction for them to feed on the spot, the distance between each bait is not always enough to hold them. Put those same baits in with a Spomb and it can be as the baits tend to be closer together. On Alton Water, if you avoided bream patrol routes, you could put out big beds of groundbait and catch only carp. The closed ends of bays weren't areas they were comfortable going in to, whether it was too close to the bank or too shallow I'm not sure, but I've caught very few bream at ranges less than 5 rod lengths from the bank, yet carp come in very close. Put very little bait in and they don't usually feed on the spot, there isn't enough to hold them to feed, unless you happen to bait up over a natural food area, like a bloodworm bed. 2 hours ago, elmoputney said: Also if you want to make molasses spicy raid your store cupboard. mrmud
I used the mix I made up but not a single bite on the 2 rods I was using for particles. All my fish came from a 12mm nut pop-up away from the particles. I was on a low stock lake and there was some of things which didn't help like guests letting they're dogs swim in the lake and some numpty trying to skim stones.
