  1. so , this is the latest that i have thought of , what im thinking of doing is creating a cocktail of something that is nice n smelly and packing that hole (12 mm by around 40mm),i would like to use something natural like mashed snails or liver ,mixed with something so it will leak over a 3 - 4 hour period , maybe even filling the hole and letting it set and that way i could prepare everything for a long session ! last year , september october time whilst fishing in the margins i baited up as usual , and got the odd twitch on my line which becomes more common the later in the season it gets ,especially in the margins , anyway the sun moved round and lit up where i had baited up (in the shade under the trees )a few minutes earlier and i couldnt understand where all my sweetcorn had gone , in under 3 minutes ! so i chucked a few more in and before they were hitting the bottom they were being eaten by that years brood of various fry , and when i chucked a good handfull in , the bottom just became a seething mass! ,they must of had a good year as there was far more than the previous year ! so it would be nice to have something in there that would do a bit of attracting that cant be eaten by the little hoovers ! I know very little about attractors , and according to my last girlfriend ,i didnt rank very highly at filling ! mmm maybe not so i need help filling that hole !
  2. while I have some time on my hands I will look at a few other ideas, I was thinking about drilling the hole with a bigger bit and possibly filling with something that could slowly leak out, this would have to be done after both lines had been passed through or drilling a separate hole and filling it , could be handy on rivers as it will not wash away with the flow ,and cant be nicked by bream ,
  3. Pallatrax ! sure are some quality looking stones ! A few of the places I fish are rocky I have had a few line grating moments where you can feel your line is grating over something and on seeing the damage to my mainline and shock leader consider it lucky not to of snapped ! ( twice in 2 years ) my shock leader was more than half way through ,I was very impressed with it for not snapping it took a real pounding ! im sure I can make a years supply in a few hours ,drilled , sanded ,everything , and if the worst happens then , ive done my best to make sure mr carp isn't going to get tethered , I would like to still have the option of casting out though !
  4. sorry Neal ,yes the whole point of it is for the weak link to break immediately on pickup , and yes I am trying to get away from dumping loads of leads , zero leads = more whiskey =
  5. also looking at that system , if that doesn't release immediately and it had any sharp edges , that could do some damage to a carp
  6. has anyone used this system , its common on ebro and some of the rivers in France (so im told ).
  7. A passion for angling has stuck in my mind for years especially when they fish a so called unfished lake full of weed and are spotting them from trees !
  8. yes I reckon you would loose some distance on a long cast also, I thought of this method just for my style of river fishing in france ,I rarely am able to get 2 rods out where I fish,i occasionally fish at distance and when I do I have my kayak with me and I will take me rig out and lovingly position it on the spot , I would have to have confidence in this method via a bit of distance casting to make sure the system can withstand the force from a long cast without damage to the pva string , im confident it would though if prepared properly ,I would not want to be killing people ,cows on the opposite bank with pebbles ,
  9. im a builder ,so no outlay on tools , I have a garden that has thousands of round smooth sandstone pebbles in it , its a no brainer for me !
  10. great stuff everyone ! keep em coming . I have actually looked at that system Nealjt ,clever idea ! I was trying to get away from dumping leads though !
  11. sorry people but i redid the diagram ,i put the A and B the wrong way round , i tried to edit but i was told i didnt have permission ! what a numpty ! i might have to cut back on the whiskey .
  12. This might make it a bit easier to understand ! this pebble is around 4 oz and is sanded down with a bit of sand paper, only took a minute !
  13. cheers dal, i just like the idea of having just a swivel between me and fish whilst playing it ,and if the worst does happen then there is a good chance carpy will not get tethered , as i fish snaggy rivers .cant wait to give it a go in spring !
  14. after your pva string has melted you should be left with this
  15. the line that breaks on pick up is 1/2 kg , I wrote on the diagram . 5 kg, (point 5kg ) could well go to 2 lb breaking strain ( I use 50 l braid ), the pva string goes through the pebble and returns back to the swivel over the top of the pebble . your rig ,which could be protected with tubing where it touches the pebble does not go through the pebble ! it sounds complicated but after a couple of goes it can be tied in a 2 mins ! when its done you can simply test it by lifting via the mainline and making sure the weight is taken via the pva string and not the 1/2 kg line
  16. inspired by a big mac !
  17. here goes then ! so,in this diagram you have your mainline attatched to your rig via the swivel at "B" 1st tie your .5 kg line to the swivel at point "B" and thread it through the pebble and tie at point "A" leave just a little bit of slack, you could cover this length of rig with some tubing ,where it touches the pebble ! 2nd thread some 9 ply pva string through swivel at point "B" and through pebble and return to point "B" maybe double up for extra strength ! now this has to be tight as it will take the load on casting also make sure you have removed any sharp edges after drilling ,i used an angle grinder a dremmel tool or sand paper will do , try to pick pebbles that you can get a drill bit through ,avoid hard stone like granit , i used sandstone. the hole was made with a 6 mm masonry bit in a cordless drill you might have to play around with the line through the center of the pebble to get the desired weight of break to you lead etc i just had some old .5 kg maxima lying around ! if all goes well this is what you should be left with after a take ,i tried it around 10 times and it seemed pretty reliable ive not tried it out properly yet though , i hope you can make sense of this if anyone can improve then please do !
  18. I will try my best crusian , I spent 2 hours writing up and making it pretty and was within 5 minutes of posting it yesterday when my laptop froze for a minute and it all went off ,laptop nearly went through the window , sorry to keep you in suspenders , I should get a chance this evening !
  19. Since loosing a good size fish to an underwater snag when the drop off system got caught in a v between branches i have wanted to make my own drop off using pebbles, over the last few days in between shopping i think i have come up with something that should be good for margin and bait boat fishing it could be ok for casting long distances with a bit of practice. I will post it up over the next few days , if i can stay sober enough !
  20. thats her armchair ,with chewed arm rests !
  21. It seems that they get more protective and start barking at noises outside and doorbells around 3 to 5 years old ,that's with lab retrievers ! She is only scared of one thing ,that's the ironing board !
  22. labs in my opinion are the best dogs ,all dogs are loyal if treated well , labs are extremely well behaved round kids as in they don't eat them, keeping them from eating the contents of bins , fridges, freshly cooked food ,sheep s##t and other dogs s##t can be a struggle , ive watched 6 grow up from pups in my lifetime the latest is 4 years old ! jumping up can be a problem round kids getting scratched faces especially when they are pups, they just want too lick your face ,they soon understand what a no means when said firmly with a push down . Some listen too you more than others,we had 1 that would always be on the lookout for an open door and would race off to the local river for a swim given half a chance another that was well trained but would love to sneak off upstairs and snap one off in your bedroom in less than 30 seconds ,you would have to sprint off after her to stop her, you would not believe what they eat , I once found an action man arm sticking out of a dump in the garden once and another time she ran into the house with a ball of sewing wool trailing from her butt which she was dragging behind her,we had to cut it off luckily it all came out the next day ! we got a call from the local butcher once that our dog was grabbing things out of shopping bags when leaving his shop and a neighbour once spotted her running up the street with a trail of sausages hanging from her mouth, they read you via your body language and your facial expressions and a few learnt words these are your best way of communicating with them , they will have you sussed before you know it just make sure its you that's boss ! All their personalities have been very different our latest loves playing with party balloons she will play keepy uppy with her nose and carry them round gently so as not to pop them ,quite a sensitive dog with a lot of patience ! only needs telling once . one we had 20 years ago would go to girls who wore a dress and lift their dresses up with her nose and would then give everything a good sniff and would get giddy when they jumped in the air ! cant emphasise how much they love water,if your taking her to some carp waters she is going to be gaggin to get in there. Summer or winter ! treat em right and you have a pal for life !
  23. not from ebay, bought them at recognized dealers, well known! that would hack you off, loosing good fish to dodgy hooks ! how often should you change your hook , after how many fish,i just sharpen mine as needed till ive taken a few mm off the length then I replace them!
  24. had a korda wide gape open up on me last week, not fully though,i still managed to land it but when I looked at the hook it must of been only just,i did have to put a bit of pressure on it to stop it reaching a snag, im now looking for a stronger hook, could anyone recommend anything stronger than korda wide gape ! not "ace razor points" though I snapped one the first time I used them ! thanks!
  25. didn't see this topic when I posted a month or so ago,i was recommended to use these so I did,the first fish I hooked on them the hook snapped in half ! Ive had a few good fish this year,up to 38 lb,the first fish hooked and it snapped my hook,i was not a happy bunny, I went home and tested them in a vice against a few other well known hooks and they seemed to bend and snap very easily, they went straight in the bin, I will never use them again !
