  1. Nick! Did you have to post this! I was about to order some nash diffusion mainline, and then you wrote this thread.. Now i'm in two minds and i am un sure on which one to use..
  2. Nice one Matt! 2 birds with one stone
  3. Brilliant Dan, think a few of us have learnt something new there
  4. My style of fishing revolves around a spread of boilies, just normaly put my rig in a PVA bag for anti tangle purposes. Then throw boilies out with a stick. But on silty lakes I fish I do struggle with bottom baits
  5. Cheers lads, looks like ive got abit of mixed opinions, after reading through the posts you supplied, your opinions and the internet, i think im going to have a go with the hinged stiff rig (as far as my pop ups are concerned) I don't think ive got much to lose other than not catching, although i will be trying it on one rod and my bottom bait on the other rod. And if the fish can get caught often enough then try different pop up rigs/presentations on each rod. Ross.
  6. To fish it helicopter style with a back bead would I have to use a leader? As I don't no how you would use a back bead on straight mono? If I'm not mistaken you make your own wafters? And own a bait company? An it I remember rightly you supplied courtz and his mate some wafters for sandhurst and they bagged up on there last 24 hours there?
  7. Cheers guys, whenever i have tried fishing with pop ups before its litteraly being, 6 inch's of coated braid, 1 inch stripped back from the hair then with a lump of putty where the braid joins the stripped back part so an inch is popped up...Just never had any sucess on it that way and was wondering if the presentation was wrong. Il try and persist with it that way throughout this year and see if i can get it working and i was just fishing it at the wrong time, or not on the right spot etc.
  8. Hey guys, I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction here please? This year im going to try and fish pop up baits a bit more often, after failing on some lakes with bottom baits as i couldnt get a decent presentation on certain lakes i feel pop ups would be the way to go. But im not sure which rig would be best to do this. I don't fish with leaders or leadcore so i guess that throws the chod out of the window. So i have narrowed it down to either the combi rig or the hinged stiff rig. But the only difference i can see between these 2 rigs is the actualy hooklink material. Both seem to start off with a flurocarbon from the swivel, then (from what i can read on the net) the combi rig goes to a short length of braid, and the hinged stiff rig has the flurocarbon going to the hook. For a start, am i heading in the right direction of a decent pop up rig? and if so which one would be the better one to choose and play around with? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. Ross
  9. ESP Strip Teaze for me, only coated braid I have ever tried and hasn't let me down, so i see no need to change...yet. Ross.
  10. You fish exactly how i fish, that rig is exactly like mine, same length, and it works very well, although i use an ESP curve shank hook. Maybe, (just maybe) the fish arnt feeding well enough on your spot because of not enough bait to get them feeding as much, and thereefore, taking their time feeding, and not geting the hook in their mouth. I used to fish a lake with that rig (minus the shrink tubing then) and fish halibut pellets, fished with a little stick like you or a couple of pellets in a pva stick. And lost nearly every fish i hooked. I then tried something a little different, i put the rig in a solid PVA bag, medium or large size to get more bait out on the right spot. Since then, never lost a fish that i hooked with pellet. Not long after, i started getting pickups again and then lose a couple or get done. So then i added the shrink tube over the eye of the hook. Now i very rarely get short burst runs and get done, and havn't lost a fish since ive done it. Basicaly, all im saying, put your rig in a solid PVA bag and see what happens? Goodluck, Ross.
  11. I started carp fishing last year, so il tell you from my experiences what is best. Use a knotless knot setup with a running lead. That's it, from that you can only improve a rig when YOU know and understand why you need too. Maybe the rig isn't hooking property, so you will tweak the rig to suit the hooking properties. As for leaders, in my opinion, don't use one, I don't use one, and have great success using mono straight through. As you get back into it you will understand your components much more and what you need in what situation. Hope it helps. Ross.
  12. Looks like your having a tough time with fishing at the moment hehe. Speedy recovery. At least you got a good hook hold. Oh, go and buy a knot puller too
  13. 3-4 inches for me, with a 2oz lead. But that's just me, but I use that rig in a PVA bag or using PVA sticks (usualy). Just remember, the longer the link, the easier it is to get tangled in the bag. Ross.
  14. Same as me mate, after playing around the other day at home, I came up with that, so I tried it one morning before work last week and had 5 carp, worked great.
  15. I use a sort of semi fixed inline running rig, something ive played around with, and which probably already exists, i came up with when playing around with a few bits and bobs. But basicaly i use an inline lead, and put a tail rubber over the swivel which connects to the hooklink, then i simply pull the lead onto the tail rubber (inner of lead is removed) very lightly. This gives it sort of a bolt rig effect, just so it pulls that hook into the bottom lip, but once a carp shakes its head a couple of time, the lead comes back off the tail rubber, which now makes it free running, making it 100% and alot harder for the carp to get the hook out of its mouth. Hope that may help? Ross.
  16. My understanding of the helicopter rig is that it don't a death rig and dosnt need a safety clip on the end. As the hooklink is on a link to the mainline, if the main line was to snap then the hooklink should be and to slide back up te mainline until the link from your hooklink runs off the mainline. The fish is then trailing a couple of inches of hooklink and the lead stays on the ground of the lake. Again, of your hooklink snapped, the fish would trail around the hook and you would real in the lead. Hope this makes sense as helps you? Ross.
  17. Has anybody seen this DVD yet? I'm not much of a DVD fan, but this one blew my away! I got round to watching it the other day after asking it for christmas, but got given in pursuit instead (which i already have ). I was glued to the television from start to finish, didnt move an inch. I felt like i was there and i felt he put a personal touch into his DVD, it didn't feel like he was trying to sell you his products, it just felt like you was going into his adventure with him. Has many ups and downs and shows you the reality of carp fishing, well i thought so anyway. I also felt quite sad at the end of the DVD (Won't say why incase you havn't seen it) but it was very well put across. I think it was definately worth the money! and overall a very good watch. Ross.
  18. Cheers nick, they all mention the Fox arma points which no1 has mentioned in this thread, looks like il be playing around with a few different patterns next season to find the one that suits me best. Thanks all for the help Ross.
  19. Yeah, completely agree, just want that hook to flip round, which i feel i could do already to a certain degree, but using the korda hooks, how many flipped round and didnt penetrate the fish's mouth leading me not getting a fish on, so was hoping to find a decent hook that are reliable and effective. Cheers again mate. Ross.
  20. Thankyou ouch for the detailed response, I actually tie my rig like that so its nice to know I'm going in the right direction, that palm test is also very effective, can't wait to get tying some new rigs and testing them out.
  21. Cheers Cob and ouch. You both seem to mention the curve shanks, and most of my fishing is on bottom baits they seem ideal, and I've never used shrink tubing over the eye of the hooks. With wide gape hooks I did put shrink tubing on the curve of the hook to make the point heavier, is that needed with curve shanks. Cheers again for the help guys
  22. Can i add another question into this post? What company of hooks do you prefer to use? I am guilty of using the korda wide gapes this season, as this was my first season of carp fishing, i seen an episode of thinking tackle, thought they look great, and used them all season, ive had quite a good season on them but how many fish have i not hooked up due to the bluntness off the hooks, which i have only recently read about. So, i want to go into the 2012 season, with a new hook which i will be more confident in, as i will be fishing a more challenging water and cant afford to not hook up due to a blunt hook. So what company should i go with? people mention the fox arma points? the fang twisters? i hear gardner make good hooks? Please help? Thanks in advance, Ross
  23. Sorry guys, you lost me, I'm too young to have listened to napalm death etc, let alone see them live. Best gig I've being to is Zebrahead. Don't no of you've heard of them, but they are mint! Proper ska punk I guess?
  24. Wait and bleed, best song they ever done!
