  1. I'm with you Brutus and find a little and often approach works best for me. The amount of times I've seen people filling it in and end up killing not only their swim but all those around them as well.
  2. plus other food sources tend to dry up in cold weather (insects bugs and the likes) so they must find different food sources.
  3. as there are massive shoals of bream in the trent im steering clear of pellet and sticking to the same methods as I do in lakes and using boilies. the lake im fishing atm has large shoals of bream and ive not had a single 1 all year and with the carp stocks being lowing in the river I haven't got to put as much bait in
  4. glad you've asked this question carl because I'm looking at doing a season on the trent next year. from what I've read river carp can very nomadic so fishing likely looking swims wont cut it but looking in certain places like slow deep swims for signs of carp will cut down bank time. what people say on pre-baiting seems contradictory so its a personal choice but one ill be looking at.
  5. yea totally agree but it is less, you can never be 100% accurate its a compromise between keeping my hook bait as close to a freebie as possible but surprising the hell out of them when they pick it up but if your rigs good and your hooks sharp its to late
  6. but then its got stick mix or chopped boilie around it, and a pop up would react differently to a standard bottom bait. I know its seems nit picky and over the top a bit but I never saw the point in getting a fish to be confident eating free offerings and presenting something different on the hook on underwater footage of fish approaching hook baits ive seen it doesn't take much to spook them off
  7. I like to keep my bait as close to my free offerings so i never use pop ups. Just a 16mm bottom bait drilled out with a cork insert.

    Silly Rules

I usually pre-bait a few swims that are opposite each other so if ones taken when i get there I can go the other side and 3/4 of the time the fish will follow the bait Couldn't disagree more.
  9. If you could I dont think colonel Saunders secret blend of herbs and spices would secret for long

    Silly Rules

last year I dropped into a swim with fish showing in front of it, but when I started setting up a guy in the peg opposite shouted over that he was fishing the swim but from the other side. I told him tough and if he saw fish showing in another swim and wanted to fish for them he should have moved if he wanted exclusivity he didn't like that and messaged the lake owner to complain and was promptly told to reel in and fish within the boundaries of his own swim and stop being a twit. I don't mind people fishing outside of their swims, in fact I do it a lot but if someone drops in the swim your cast to then you reel in (I even go and tell them where ive been putting bait) unfortunately like people in everyday life anglers can be turds as well

hell of a lot cheaper than loss of revenue while you sort your lake out and replacing 200 carp

    Silly Rules

if a day ticket fishing complex wants to truly protect themselves from the spread of disease they should provide nets mats and slings. having a net dip rule just makes anglers think they're ok not to dry their nets out properly because the dip will sort it which just isn't the case
  14. I'm thinking of ditching the carps rods and cracking out the river rods for some chub and barbel bashing on the trent over then next few months and was looking for some decent thermal socks would be nice if I didn't sweat loads while walking but didn't get cold when I stop at a likely looking swim price isn't an issue for a good pair so any feedback would be greatly appreciated
  15. you know what they say about a fool and his money ive still got a Samsung tv I bought 20 years ago
  16. not sure if any ones mentioned this but on 1 of the monster carp episodes they start using massive baits because they're being plagued by smaller carp but it doesn't work just like ive caught 1 1/2 lb roach on 16mm boilies your going to catch 5lb carp on 30mm boilies no problem
  17. every things the same now days, mobile phones, washing machines, sofas and even cars have financing designed so you can swap cars every 3 years were being conditioned into believing newer means better but the reality is we've gotten to a stage where were swapping an old piece of tat for a new piece of tat
  18. same as Gordon and use the same boilie all year btw whats baden hall like ? was looking for a trip next year
  19. I've had mine checked 2 years ago and 6 years ago and that's it in 30 years both times on syndicates but like frame said most of my fishing was club waters or rivers before that
  20. young people aren't taking up fishing like they did when I was younger ive got 9 nephews and took them all fishing but only 1 kept it up into their 20s where as when I was a kid everyone I knew went fishing and a lot still do in 1 form or another so as the old guard die off they aren't being replaced due to the amount of time nippers spend on internet games (fortnite for my grandson) your lucky to get them out the house never mind fishing imo theres way to much choice, just look at all the different rods reels and bivvies are out there with a bit of luck the tat will die off and the quality brands will remain
  21. Liver specials kick bottom
  22. I don't get why some people say its wrong to lift fish out in the net ive heard some say the hook can get caught in the mesh but in over 30 years of fishing ive never had this happen
  23. how did he know they had lifted the fish in the net ????? was it damaged some how ?
  24. the only shelf life boilie I ever used was quest baits pineapple crush those things were rock hard and felt a bit waxy but the fish loved them, never really looked at break down times tho
  25. liver boilies all the way
