  1. Fishy ? THREE inches from the lead ? Having re-read this thread i rest my case ...
  2. Nick i agree that some anglers do reach for a choddy ( sorry ) because it is the easy option and not always the correct "tool" for the job , myself included at times . Your post above Nick , is that why you are dead against its use in weed ? I have been reading some old threads , many going back a lot of years , and you have been saying the same throughout all that time which is to your credit because you are consistent and people often are not . But you are the only person i've ever "met" who is of that opinion . In actual fact , one of the Chase lakes has weed from surface to lakebed all over and everybody i has asked , recommends a "long choddy" whatever that means ? I think if you was to poll this forum about the use of silt rigs in weed the result , rightly or wrongly , would be a resounding YES . On the back chase lake that i fish the lakebed HAS gravel but is largely shallow silt covered in what they call Filamous Algae and the rig works very well . Would you say that was using it in weed ? I would never infer that you might be wrong mate , too much respect for your knowledge and experience for that , but why do you think nobody else has picked up on it ?
  3. Fishy , Androooooo is quite correct matey , that thread will be a great help to you . Keeping the bottom bead/sinker at least 12" from the lead will put an end to your problem . If your still losing fish then it'll be something fundamentally wrong with the rig . I'm sure thats not the case but i find the choddie extremely difficult to tie correctly , arthritis in my fingers not helping.. In fact its the only rig that i still buy pre-tied wheras when i first started carping i only used pre-tied rigs. Gardner closely followed by ESP , the reel deel
  4. Yeh it does Andy . A bit Im not a complete stranger to zigs and i have used a bubble float before , sight not being an issue cos its only margin zigging so to speak , theres a nice deep drop off about 5-7 metres from the rod tips . I take it inline floats ARE the way to go ? The fox kit has a really large float that has an eye for the line to pass through and a long boom for the lead . Its the tangles i have problems with . Still . Im toying with the idea of using a pva stick full of riser pellet or solar up & down groundbait on the hooklength to try and eradicate tangles . Purely using a bit of pva tape is confusing this old dinosaur as i dont really know the best place on the set up in which to fix it ?
  5. These sunken pike floats ....are they the same as the clear bubble floats that i use as controllers when surface fishing ? If yes , then i have a question . When surface fishing i usually fill the bubble float with water for obvious reasons but if using one on an adjustable zig , should i add any water or leave the bubble empty ? I have considered using the zig grenade but im confused as to where to place the pva tape and hook cos the photos not too clear . And i have the fox halo zig kit but its really bulky and like , tangle city I just know its going to be hot when i fish next so the zigs will have to come out at certain times of the day
  6. Armamesh mate . Nazeing Meads taught me its a must-have
  7. Well , if theres going to be silt anywhere , it'll be under a tree
  8. Im not certain but i think Nick had a campaign on earith ?He'll almost definitley comment when he sees this thread tomorriw
  9. Welcome to ze forum mein herr !
  10. At the time it was a case of having to rather than choice , but i honestly believe that the fact i used to fish tuesday-thursday was a BIG factor. Never ever tore the lake apart ( i wished ) but i never blanked either . Well , maybe once in 3 years .
  11. Thats more like it Nick , i think you have hit the nail on the head there . Angling pressure , as it subsides , and maybe not even mondays maybe as late as tuesday/wednesday may well be when the fish decide the baits are safe . By which time of course they are washed out . A much more realistic explanation methinks
  12. Sorry mate its not my part of the workd but a big welcome to the forum anyway . Have fun
  13. Good thread this , I'm really enjoying the way its slowly unfolding . I agree with you Liam . I have a lot more confidence in a fresh bait and the attraction it must offer compared to one that has been sitting in the lake for a few days. I think the longest i have left a bait out is a day and a morning then felt compelled to change something. Having said that i have no reason to doubt Nick so maybe its a case of every lake fishing differently According to pressure and stuff . Personally apart from when surface fishing i've never seen a fish actually take a bait no matter how long its been in the water ? I can just about see a fluro hookbait dropped in the margin at my feet let alone kilos of HNV boilies 50+ yards out
  14. Yes mate couldnt agree more . The fella who commented on the subject is a youngster , keen but young is young serb
  15. I make you right . Its having £350 thats the problem for a lot of people though ...
  16. Yeh make sure you have a compass & a prayer mat
  17. Cost i'm afraid is the downside of syndicate fishing serb . Its the price you pay for the exclusivity and knowing that you and fellow syndicate members will look after the lake and its fish.
  18. Try this matey http://www.carp.com/topic/8359-approaching-a-new-water/
  19. Bscally you cant shorten the hair if you tie your rigs knotless knot style . Of course if you tie your hooks on with a palomar knot or similar then you can attach whatever hair you like to the hook eye . Just make sure you have a selection of different lengths already tied up
  20. Others wont understand phil but as long as you get a buzz out of it Ok ok i'm on my way :)
  21. Looks a good opportunity for the right person , good luck and welcome to the forum
