  1. Just like to add , as somebody above has said , sometimes you have to sacrifice something you like in a rig and in this case is was the suppleness of a braided hooklink . I did try various fluorocarbons and monos straight thru but you could hear ronnie & reggie making themselves busy and it was making me paranoid so i was checking the rigs every hour or so . Although the hookbaits were unscathed (large bottom baits , armameshed and tied to the D with half a paper clip ) the hooklink materials took a battering . Little chunks missing from the mono's making look like it had been pulled through a mussel bed or something . They never managed to chew through the hooklinks but it was probably only a matter of time . The Magic Touch was the only material i found to be fully effective . Also a pva bag about 6 ft from my rig helped as a decoy
  2. Going back to my summer on the North lagoon at Nazeing i can remember a Diy kind of combi-rig i came up with . Couldnt use any kind of braid otherwise it was tangle city so i tied up a soft-ish fluoro ( soft ghost type) in a high breaking strain , D-rig to a straight shanked hook and used some Sufix Magic Touch as the boom section ....or was it the other way round ??? The other Rig used that summer was (what is now ) a Choddy only using a bottom bait .... Never caught a Carp with em but the Bream never seemed to mind
  3. Agreed . The point i was making though was the need to replace the run ring with a ring swivel . As you later pointed out .
  4. Hold your horses son , they'll be others disagreeing with me for sure . It just wouldnt work for ME But silt ? Tackle shop ? Yeh stiff hinged rig or a good old cho..oops i mean silt rig
  5. If your not sure ....and i wouldnt be looking at that , then naked chod all the way . If you want to fish the above rig then you need the correct components mate .

  9. That should be fine thanks mate . I can see me making up a lot of zigs very soon and dont wanna get 'em mixed/ tangled up . I take it you mark yours up so you know which spool is which ? Be foolish not to i spose doh ! Tbh i really wanna go adjustable cos im lazy but im so unsure about it that i think im just better off going the traditional route especially as the lake is relatively shallowish . Thanks for your help sirs
  10. Thanks Andy . Im pretty sure its no more than 6 ft deep where i'll be fishing anyway so in the absence of a marker set up i'll be having a good plumb around with a coarse rod & stick float before i zig up anyway . Due to my lack of confidence in this type of fishing im currently intending to try traditional zigs straight off the lead and spend a few hours tying various size hooklengths up Dal , if you read this mate , how exactly do those Avid zig holder thingys work for storing em ?
  11. Evening fellas , whilst sorting through my tackle bag earlier on i was looking through an old rig wallet and i found a rig that i dont remember ever seeing before . I didnt take a picture , maybe i shoulda done , and i think somebody must have given it to me when i was just starting out . I thought that if i described it to you guys maybe somebody may recognize it and more importantly know what it might be used for ? Its about 8-10 inches long made of a soft fluorocarbon or a mono with a largish D instead of a hair . On the D is a tiny swivel . Hook size probably a 10 or possibly a small 8 depending on manufacturer . Anyone got any ideas ?
  12. It would seem your half way there . The Hybrid is your , rather expensive , friend

  18. Well what a F.I.N.E fish . Well done mate
  19. To me , it sounds like one of those waters that has people queuing up behind the swim waiting for you to vacate it. Its bad enough if it happens on a day ticket but having shelled out that much dosh i'd want the option to stay put . I'd be doing a LOT of research before committing .... Doesnt say how many swims available but 70 members to 11 acres ? Im no expert on syndis , far from it , but that sounds a lot to me ?
  20. Thats good to know cos im planning on trying the ones i have . Thanks john . They WONT work with KD rigs then
  21. Cant imagine its the hooks unless you have a dodgy batch ? You say the strike ? What lead arrangement are you using ? You could try a bigger hook which might help . What hookbait are you using because the KD is designed for a critically balanced bait or a weighted-down-with-a-shot on the hair pop up . Go back to basics . Simple knotless knot size 6 or 4 hook . See if it helps ...
  22. Oh mate i love a canal , wish i had one near me . Fox armamesh mate . Or a section of your old lady's tights
