Iāve misplaced my spare spools over the years and all my other reels (and I have a few) are all freshly and nicely respooled and Iām a little reluctant to interfere with them Iād merely be transferring the problem elsewhere, having to replace THAT line if you follow me . Im taking my little un fishing next week sometime and maybe Iāll be able to walk it out then though I wasnāt expecting to get the time to fish myself so Iāll have to see how it goes but Nick , wouldnāt casting and recasting a few times into a lake have the same effect ?

Hey guys Iāve resurrected this thread (like I always do) as Iāve got the same problem. Respooled all 3 of my Evoās this afternoon with Gardner pro carp line. First 2 reels , not a problem , perfect line lay , well happy . The 3rd reel , my ānewā reel I , like a Donut , forgot to check the washers beneath the spool and hey presto , Cone Head Spool . Iāve removed the extra washer so itās in line with my other 2 reels and , of course , the spool is still in a cone . The lines only been on the reel for a couple of hours so Iām sure if I can get it off and put it on again itāll be fine . But how to ? I donāt have any spare spools to use so has anybody got any ideas ? Thereās not enough line left on the bulk spool to start from scratch so am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy some more line ? or will a dozen or so casts and retrieves into the lake improve the line lay somewhat ? Come on experts help me out here š 6 years ago Iād have worked this out or it wouldnāt have happened in the first place ā¦ 6 years on it feels like Iām learning everything again from scratch.

Whatās done me up is my decision to go from a 2 to a 3 rod set up after a 6 year sabbatical. Extra Rod extra reel extra alarm required All of which have been discontinued. Managed to get an EOS X alarm and An Emcast Evo second hand in like new condition to make the set but as for the my rods ? I couldnāt get another rod like my Berkleyās for love nor money . A similar budget rod would probably suffice but the temptation to upgrade was too much . My CTXās I have now may be budget rods to many but they are a huge upgrade to me and I donāt intend buying new rods again EVER touch wood š The above have been my main investments , anything else has been just bits & pieces of cosmetic junk that I felt I needed . A decent Fox net should last me for years and I do still need to invest in a good quality light(er) weight shelter which wonāt be cheap but hell with it ā¦itās pretty much a one off period hopefully where Iāll be in a good position , have everything I need and then itāll just be bait hooks and licences every year . which reminds me ā¦ bait š¤

Was hoping youād pipe up Kev as Iād read your review of your ascent brolly even before Highy posted that link above ā¬ļø Is the one I have my eye on the mk2 version of your one do you think ? I must admit it looks the nuts . itās quite expensive but I take it from what you said above that it would be worth it yes ? Do you reckon it would suffice for winter ok ? Even though Iād definitely be a bit of a fair weather fisherman these days Iād still like the option . Itās why Iām looking for a Brolly that I can add an overwrap to if necessary. Would the dual layer material on this negate the need for an additional overwrap ?

Yeah Nick , Iām leaning towards the Cabrio ( per our conversation) and the Avid but I read a bad review about the Avid leaking on another forum ( in a thread you contributed to funnily enough) and I want somebody somewhere to tell me itās the Doggies danglies . othr than that , yes Iām leaning towards the Cabrio . Still open to different options though as I donāt rush into anything .
-
With 2 different Wychwoodās ? Verrrry suspicious.
-
And Iāve heard of the Avid dual layers having the same problem first time out as well , on another forum . It could be a one off in that case but have you heard of more than one case ? Ive heard of Fox brollys leaking yet everybody raves about em

Thanks for that mate . Yes it does look ok doesnāt it , I remember another thread where we chatted about it . I wasnāt over keen on the fact that you have to buy everything separately and that you couldnāt add a front to the basic brolly , only the overwrap . I know I said money isnāt much of a problem but I donāt want to invest in a full blown Bivvy straight away which buying the shelter with everything else added would pretty much entail and for the money it would add up to I might as well just buy a Bivvy ā¦ does that make sense ? You know it is really peeing me off the way these companies force you to keep coughing up for additional bits . Its why Iāve instantly dismissed anything Fox or Trakker ā¦and theyāre not alone . Being greedy Iām basically after the whole system plus the option to add an overwrap later . appreciate your input though , I would have done the same . Years ago despite its weight I was always plugging my STI .

Variations on the theme, Multi-rig or Spinner rig.

Is that a lead clip I detect ? š¤£ -
Just read an article in a recent , maybe the latest Carpology , featuring Tim Paisley that had a few pics of Ashmead in there .Iāll be honest Iād never heard of the place till this thread and it looks lovely , proper jungle hooks stuff . Nick , as someone said above , for Ā£25 SURELY Carp Society membership is great value just for a chance to fish a historical venue like that ? Itās like watching the āās in a European quarter final ā¦ Itāll never happen again š

Apologies for the repitition , I know thereās a list of similar threads as long as your arm . I have arthritis in my hands and arms ( less so) nowadays and along with my age will make lugging around and erecting my old faithful STI 2 man Bivvy a chore Iād rather not have anymore so Iām on the lookout for a Brolly system that is light-ish but easy to erect and put away in order to be as mobile as poss yet possibly small enough to get the main body of it into the central part of my quiver . Ideally Iād want the option of adding an overwrap in the Autumn and winter so although it appears that I want the world , Iāve made a shortlist of those that I like the look of , and would appreciate any reviews recommendations opinions etc . Dosh isnāt a problem but I wonāt sheāll out silly money . I like the look of : Wychwood MHR mk2 brolly system ( Iāve emailed Wychwoood to find out if thereās a wrap). Avid hq dual layer brolly system ( maybe wrap not necessary ?due to dual layer ?) Rod Hutchinson Cabrio system ( I KNOW I can get a wrap for it). what ja reckon guys ?

Thank you so much mate thatās such a good explanation and really clears things up for me . Grays ? Yep wonderful place . Hated it when I first moved here but Iāve been back to a few of my old haunts recently and itās really quite a nice clean tidy place and we are quite settled now itās been 8 years . Id rather live in Warsaw than Beirut letās put it that way . š thanks again šš»

Ā£8 eh ? I might have to move up North -
Thanks everyone I think Iāll all stop pestering you all now . I think what was confusing me was the fact that although there are a few different models , the newer ones obviously with a few more advanced features , every advert you come across appears to have a different box , Iāve seen at least 6 different ones . Maybe itās just me being a dope š theyāre probably just that . Adverts . I think they look really useful little tools , especially on an empty lake . But as I say , thereās a long long list of more essential items I need to acquire before stuff like that appears . Good God have you seen the price of a basic chair ???? š

Thereās obviously something Iām not getting here . Having googled these things a million times and scoured this forum and others for info , everybody except obviously the super rich ones seem to utilise the deeper chirp+ . yet on the deeper website there are 4 different types on the market . The Deeper smart fishfinder (most basic) The Deeper Pro The Deeper Smart Sonar PRO+ 2 The Deeper Smart Sonar CHIRP+ 2 No mention anywhere of this Deeper Chirp+ that everybody seems to use ? Okkaaay mate , I get that ā¦ which version do you have ? Is it the latest version ? If so what does it do that the previous version canāt ? Similarly (is that a word ?) if you use the previous version what could the sandy coloured one give you that yours doesnāt ?
-
Thanks CB , appreciate that but w hat is meant by better detail exactly ? Anybody else in the know ?
-
Iāve been looking into these . Not that Iāll be getting one especially , I have much more essential stuff to get/upgrade/find the money for . Its just that Iām having difficulty understanding the difference between the different versions , especially the two newest versions . Im not very tech minded anyway but can anybody clear this up for me in laymanās terms ? it seems to me that the newest one charges quicker and lasts longer but the difference apart from that isnāt apparent to me ? I would have thought that to pay Ā£300+ for one of these you may as well get a bait boat. If youāre that way inclined of course .
