  1. They were designed so a live baitfish could be hooked through the back and allowed to swim freely, hence the name, bait runner (which Shimano patented), and a lot were destined for saltwater fishing. My 6500 would be a great reel for sharks, and that whole series featured waterproof drag so they could be rinsed. I don't think carp anglers were even considered at first, they just picked it up, but I could be wrong. In any case I think they're great.
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWMDuRZBnnw The Scotch deserves half the blame.
  3. I like my 10000 XTE-A's but you'd be lucky to find a set in new condition now. They do pop up once in awhile though.

  6. Nothing wrong with dreaming. Ask somebody at Fox if they ever made them, I found them extremely helpfull and friendly. They're losing business to Gardner if someone wants a set of white ones so if they haven't made them maybe they should. Sent from my SM-T210R using Tapatalk
  7. they aren't doing it yet http://theconversation.com/should-we-release-the-deadly-carp-virus-into-our-rivers-and-water-supplies-57982
  8. Welcome to the forum, 2.75 tc is generally accepted as the standard all round weight for a carp rod, but if you're going to be using method feeders all the time and fishing at distance you may want to consider a 3 lb tc. A good 2.75 rod will do it, so personal preference, matching suitable reels comes in and here is where visiting tackle shops and playing with their merchandise is useful. Make a few friends on here and go fishing and look at their stuff, could save you some time.

    Aviary .

They all look so tasty, they're very cute, and at least they're warm blooded, but I can't help thinking of pies. [emoji1] Sent from my SM-T210R using Tapatalk
  11. Mr DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.
  12. Now I see, I didn't look close enough before and thought it had a wheel. Vast improvement over a stack of coins perched on the spool over a coffee can.
  13. With that deep notch it's almost like built-in snag bars.
  14. A rubber foot from a mic stand or misc band kit with a hole drilled for a bolt. It's gotta be in it's 10th year by now.
  15. I have a horking great Shimano Tribal holdall that weighs a ton when I have it stuffed full. I usually take something smaller since we have a 1 rod rule anyway.
  16. It could work on a wild water where carp had never seen any artificial baits.
  17. There is probably a lot of attention being given to this research by biologists in the US looking for a solution to the Asian Carp infestation of the Missouri River. If they decide to unleash the virus there it could wipe out carp fishing in the whole watershed. They want to keep Asian Carp from taking hold in the Great Lakes so if they use it in the Missouri River it could potentially kill every carp in connected waterways, including the St Lawrence. That's a lot of carp. The Great Lakes hold over %20 of the world's fresh water and I'd worry about any virus going in, versus danger from the Asian Carp (which also could potentially render a body of water sterile).
  18. I tried to sign it but I don't do Stalkbook so I can't. Spr1985 is right, everyone grow up.
