  1. I dont fish it very often any more, as for the lake record i've had a mirror out of there the slate grey at over 30lb and so has carpaddict so whoever you were talking to hasn't had that one. The fish carpaddict has in that pic of the two of us is about 18lb, the big common i've got is about 25/26 from memory. There are two big commons the other one is called the the long common i had it at 29lb odd there are a few new 20s coming through since i last did any serious time on there so i might give it a bash in the spring.
  2. Fish the margins, be quiet and its easy. They love a bit of hemp so fish over that with any decent bait. Heres a couple from there
  3. I re read this book over the weekend and it reminded me of how good it is. Although not about carp it is still a top read and very entertaining, mostly about game fishing and sea fishing for bonefish etc it is one of those books that are hard to put down once started. If you are willing to broaden your horizons and look beyond carp it is a great read.
  4. Some decent carp waters on the Telford Angling Asscociation ticket. the following are what i would class as medium hard 1. Middle pool lots of doubles with quite a few 20s best fish about 28/29lb, night fishing allowed. 2. Wide waters at little Dawley, small water with quite a few doubles and a few 20s days only. 3. Blue pool Telford town park, stacks of fish upto 30lb interesting water nights allowed but the carpark is iffy. Park in the estate just above the car park and you will be sound. 4. Randley pool, next to the Blue under fished as a carp water and it does hold a few surprises again night fishing allowed. This next water is very hard. 5. Trench pool, difficult banks, loads of weed, loads of ducks but some very cute scaley fish, the bonus is a pub on the banks. One of the local tackle shops Rod and Gun in Dawley have a couple of waters at little wenlock which are day ticket and rammed full of carp into the 20s. Ring 01952 503550 for more info. Also on a day ticket is Withy pool in telford town park, loads of doubles and a lot of cats. No nights but tickets on the bank. All allow bait boats. Jez
  5. one here and everyone who used owner hooks in the dim and distant past
  6. I have to admit that when its dark or coloured water i will use a lead instead of freelining the margins and in the past sometimes a short length of leadcore as the weight although i now never use it instead using a length of tungstan tubing.
  7. I'm sure most of the wonder rigs shown in the mags have never been used in anger. Me i use dead simple rigs for 99% of my fishing, i understand them and they work.
  8. Frank, i must say that when i am free lining i am sight fishing and that i expect to strike and set the hook myself therefore negating the need for a lead to help set the hook. To me though a razor sharp hook is still the most important item of fishing tackle i've got.
  9. Once the fish has pricked itself on the hook and dashed off it is hooked lead or no lead. You will get better indication of what is going on at the hook end with a running lead and a slack line than a semi fixed set up all the time. From what i remember about the korda vids when Danny changed over to running leads his hook up ratio improved considerably. This to me shows that the carp find a running rig more difficult to deal with than the semi fixed lead where they use the lead as a pivot point to help lose the hook. Experiment with different rigs and find out what works for you on your waters as not everywhere is the same due to lake bottom variation and even the general shape of the fish.
  10. Sharp hooks hook the fish not the lead, i've seen them bolt off when pricked on a freeline rig and had loads of screamers on light running leads.
  11. Both the esp and the fox one is easy to strip with your fingers.
  12. Dave, try something like fox cortex it is a coated braid but really easy to strip a few inches back giving you a combi link effect and some movement at the hook end. Add a anti tangle sleeve from korda, fox etc and tangles will become a thing of the past my friend. If by some chance you still have problems a small pva bag or two bait stringer will help as well. Jez
  13. Big fish kill on there in the floods of 2007, you say you had scar at 46lb thats some fish for a water like that Can we see a pic as it is a stunning fish for the midlands.
  14. John/Steve, i assume it was one of you i spoke to on Monday when i booked a lads n dads package on Bounty one. Just a quick one if you see this but it states on the website that freezers are available for bait bought on site are their any facilities for anglers bringing their own bait? Cheers Jez
  15. You sure about the 30s in Norton as the biggest I know off there for years is only mid to high 20s. A lovely water though just a shame the idiots caused the night fishing to be banned on there.
  16. Try a search as their is loads of info about Rushes. I'm on the 18th July for a week with my lad and i shall fish using a boilie only approach which has served me really well on my two previous visits. Jez
  17. That rig is nothing compared with the one Kim and Iain found at rushes lake. I will send nick a pic so he can post it.
  18. Chillington is a brewood anglers water and very difficult to get into. You need to be proposed and seconded by present members and even then it aint easy.
  19. So you attach the quik link to your mainline and then attach your hooklinks to the quicklink with a swivel. This to me says that you will not get the benefit of the swivel in reducing twist in your mainline which is what swivels were invented for. Why not use the swivel as it is designed for and tie your hooklinks to the quiklink and then attach this to the swivel tied on your mainline as its designed to be used.
  20. It amazes me that with all the readily available info out there in the public domain that rigs like those are still be used by anglers. Anyway we've hijacked this thread enough for now lol.
  21. The worst rig i've ever seen was posted by Kim and Iain at rushes. Leadcore, knots, swivels both ends, leadclip running up and down the line etc.
  22. Sorry fella but I wouldn't regard that as a particularly safe rig. The bore of the safety clip and even more especially the tail rubber would make it very likely to snag on the slightest of tangles (possibly a snap off during casting) or knotted piece of line (maybe wound round a small stick after being cut off on the lake bed). Personally I would much prefer to use a large eye swivel or runn ring in order to allow everything to "run" properly. The lead clip was designed simply to drop the lead and to do that it MUST be permanently fixed to the hook link swivel. Agree totally Keith, it isnt possible to use a leadclip properly in a proper running lead rig.
  23. You really aint got a clue mate
