  1. I use mono straight through & i don't recall ever lifting a scale. Should it happen, i have the Klinic on standby. Besides, i think that the occasional scale lift is preferable to a tethered fish.
  2. Does anyone know if you can fish this place, or even if there's any fish in there? It's just down the road from Shatterford, for those that know the area.
  3. Merrington. No Carp, the weather's always awful & the banks are swamp like. Fortunatly none of this matters, as the lake is frequented by some of the best people you could meet. And the odd student. The very odd student
  4. We'll miss you too. I was amazed by your cullinary skills. Only the best chefs can turn spuds into coal
  5. I won't know for definite until I pick it all up mate, should be around a fiver each I think mate Nice one
  6. I'll be there about 7.15 Friday morning. Andy, what do i owe you for the food?
  7. Dave, as you know this is Grumpy social mk2. I'm not sure you qualify to be honest. In your avatar, you look far too happy. See you Saturday
  8. It'll be a breeze You under the brolly then mate? If I have to go on the cold side again I won't be too chuffed!! Yes, i'm taking the brolly. (In case i struggle with the new bivvy) Does that one also come with a built-in kettle? It was an optional extra

  10. Use that infamous charisma & charm of yours to get us on the warm side. We're going to need it. Have you seen the weather for next weekend? I've just visited several weather forecast sites and the outlook isn't too bad. Snow is unlikely, some very light rain, possibly, on Saturday. On Sunday we'll need the Factor 8. Or not. Coldish at night but warmish by day. To be on the safe side I'm taking all the warm clothes I own and may well borrow even more. I guess that the Peachskin overblanket will be deployed once again. The last time I used it was at the Grumpy Old thingy last year. Please God, don't let it be that cold again. Ian When i first checked, about a week ago it was abslolutly dire. Fortunatly, regular checks have seen a steady improvement. Fingers crossed it continues in the same manner.
  11. I do agree with that, to some extent. I had my stag night many years ago. I don't remember a single minute of it. My next stag do will be spent at a lake, with a few friends & a bottle or two of red. Maturity grows on you. On occasion
  12. I assume that was the younger of the two bailifs?

  14. Eh? We should do it again. We forgot to mention the owner. He's a very nice man
  15. There was loads of the stuff mate. I just threw it all into your swim before you arrived Other than being told porkies about the stock size, i had a great time there. Though in honesty, it was more to do with the company than the venue. But i'd go back there
  16. You can buy a night ticket now. I think it's an extra £30 per year, though there are limited places.
  17. Which is what most people do to kick the hooklink out, & to make as little disturbance as possible. I wouldn't of thought that a lead travelling a foot or two would make much difference. Having said all that i don't use a baitboat. Maybe you're right?
  18. Fall differently how? Lead hit water, lead go down As Jay says, with shorter hooklinks there should be no problems.
  19. They're mainy used for boilies. Tie them on with either bait floss or dental floss.
  20. There was a forum social there befor the lake officially opened. Look at Arc social http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewforum.php?f=96
  21. You can buy proper tools to strip the coating from braid, but i use my teeth. Esp, Fox & Suffix strip easily enough
  22. I know what i mean. It's all about the effects of water pressure, some info here http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=23478&highlight=
  23. Your pop up/snowman hookbait may look great when testing in the margin, but don't forget that once it's sat in deep water it won't behave in the same way. Pop ups lose their bouyancy after a certain depth
  24. It's about time we saw a picture of this rig
