Easier just to tie a ronnie with triggalink IMO.
Correction: easier to not bother tying it at all lol....

hi beechy, welcome to the world of carpy things
as has been said already, buy minimum kit until you are sure that it is the game for you.
there are plenty of threads on here that give good info about rigs, kit and tackle, also things like bankside safety and yours + fishes health, i will post a link below to some interesting stuff that everyone should read (and as a wink to others on here) but take what you will from it, there is for instance a very informative post on hooks, their various styles and uses.
    look here
also dont think that you need to but loads of named brand gear just because that is what you are being advised to do, some folk think nowt of ordering rods and reels that can come in at over £500 each but really they dont catch fish any faster than a £20 rod from ebay, take a look at these lineaeffe reels for instance,  i brought a set of these as my first carp reels over 6-7 years ago, they get plenty of use as i try to get out at least 1-2 times a week with 10 or so overnights, my biggest fish is a 25lb pike and largest carp is a tad over 24lb and those cheapo stinky winky reels did the business and are still going strong today.
just realized that the one still has the same line on it that it came with and that one is used as a spod and marker reel so yeh! mega money does not need to be spent

Thanks for your suggestions lads, I went for three Wychwood "Slugs" in the end...... picked them up cheap off the 'bay (£6.50 each).
Like the idea that they come with so many chain options as standard (including a Dacron cord) and the fact that I found some in really bright orange, which is my preferred colour.
They're not the prettiest kids on the block, but then nor were Fairy Liquid bottle tops!
Shame about the chains on the Avids, they are a really nice, simple bobbin but the aforementioned chains are made of chocolate! I emailed Avid about two weeks ago to find out if I could buy the chains separately, but had no response from them. Thanks Avid.

For my pop up presentations I tend to use these.....
    http://gardnertackle.co.uk/product/pop-up-hook-aligners/
There's an accompanying video on that page if you click on the link. Very easy to use.
I thread the rubber part that forms the D through a bait screw with a rig ring attached. Can get that well hidden within the pop up and doesn't weigh too much
I also use these instead of putty or split shot to hold them down.....

    Nice and neat.

I'm the same as LJC, don't make things more complicated than they need to be. A standard knotless knotted rig probably catches most of the carp each week, and works for bottom baits and pop-ups.
They look like pop-up rigs, with movement, but as Vik says, the pop-up may have too much separation from the hook. For pop-ups, I prefer the bait tight to the hook, although a long hair can cause confusion as per Bill Cottam and Brian Garner when The Mangrove was first opened up.

My go-to pop-up (and snowman) is often a D-rig, (and often on a longer shank hook), a bit of movement, it resets and hookholds are usually nailed properly.
Me personally, I tie pop-ups on, although I recently had a revelation with that as I have been meshing baits. Mesh the bait, a twist of braid (dental floss) and knot it, leave the tag ends, then cut the mesh and lighter tag it. Using the braid tie the pop-up to a rig ring on the D-rig.

The bait screws are brilliant, don't get me wrong, but crayfish can remove the bait without your knowledge, or any indication.
Last year on Nazeing they were so bad, even meshed pop-ups got munched! I ended up using wooden balls as 'permanent' pop-ups with a blooming great match anglers olivettes as the counterweight. In fact I ended up with tench over 12 and carp to 28lb doing that.

    Hello Highy
IMO if you can tie rigs like the ones you have shown you can easily tie a Ronnie Rig , or as Greekskii says a Multi Rig .
Personally I would go for a Gardner Mugga Sz. 6 and have the Hook Stop set lower down the hook shank opposite the point of the hook . I'm also a floss man , using a Hook Ring Swivel .

That's the lake I run and I have these in every swim, along with a spare stash by my generator shed.
Two at the front of the brolly and a strip up to the rods. Can make a massive difference in saving the swim from becoming a quagmire.

Strangely enough, I very rarely use anti- tangle sleeves over the hooklink swivel, and don't often get tangles, although I do use PVA stringers or mesh almost every cast, or a Corn nugget to protect the hook.

My rigs haven't changed much over years, and I do try to keep it simple. For goodness knows how many years it was a case of a knotless knotted rig with a line aligner. That was made with braid, coated braid, or as part of a combi-link, although when I moved onto Nazeing I did start fishing with that sliding rig on the shank. The reason for that was so i could:
    a) change the hair length to suit the fishing.
    b) have a hair strong enough to combat crays.
    c) fish a snowman or bottom bait without changing rigs.
I have put a picture of that rig above. It works with a snowman, multiple bottom baits or a single, or even as a pop-up rig.

Had a manic 2 hour spell this morning. Arrived at the lake late last night and got the rods out ready for the morning feed. Between 7 and 10am I had four out.

I confess to being a lazy git, so I nearly always leave waterproofing until I am on the bank. Check the weather, dry day and a can or two of Fabsil, bivvy up and spray.

I just get everything in brown and catch over weed, silt, gravel.....
If you check your tackle in the margins you'll see over everything but the cleanest gravel it really doesn't make much difference. On really clean stuff I might use a fluoro leader but when we're fishing with fluorescent pink hookbaits what does it matter lol....

For nylon shelters use Fabsil. For breathable materials e.g. Aquatex use Fabsil Gold.
For any winter skins that will fit in the washing machine you can get Nickwax wash-in waterproofer, not quite as good as Fabsil but easier and cheaper.
All this stuff works on waterproof clothing, waterproof sleeping bag covers etc.... and it is well worth doing.

Fabsil or Fabsil Gold , gold is more expensive
I use ordinary Fabsil good for a couple of seasons .
