  1. I may have posted older versions of this idea on here before. I have now got it down to an incredibly simple rig that anyone can tie. I have made a YouTube clip to try and explain my thinking. I apologise for the typeface used because it make L and i look the same but my font picker disappeared from the software I was using to make it. If it is still not clear how it works, simply place a cylinder (e.g.. a round cookie cutter) over the rig and gently lift the boilie. As the line tightens you will see what is happening. I may be simply re-inventing the wheel but have not found it described elsewhere.

  2. I used to call it The Spinner but then someone put a swivel on a hook and called that a spinner. Not sure what you mean by "going mainstream" I am only passing on my limited experience to anyone who might be interested. My carp fishing is quite a bit different from most on this forum. From personal tests I rate the hair 80 to 85% effective and the Bald Rig 98 to 99% effective. But that estimate is very subjective (and possibly biased) Would be interested how you get on. I would predict no missed takes.

  4. It purely depends on the mix mate, i couldnt leave my current mix in the fridge overnight it would be to stiff to gun out. TBH i just leave for an hour tops if im just doing 6 eggs or just roll it straighty away.

  6. The hook from an old tent peg does not work, it comes loose (I have a Bosch drill) or bends. Get a paddle mixer/paint stirrer, that works a treat for around 20 eggs of liquids. I have also used a plasterers paddle mixer for larger amounts, about 5litres of eggs and liquids.

    Washing bait buckets

wouldn't worry about it some people like to ferment their bait, salty near to boiling water will get rid of anything that might grow mould, just don't warp the bucket with water that is too hot.

  9. Nice mate, I guess want to be doing 5kg batches at a time and freeze. Iโ€™ve been watching a few videos last night, watched some of John bakers stuff, very knowledgeable bloke ๐Ÿ‘ Then I watched some other guy who was showing his set ups from doing a small batch to stepping it up to a bigger batch etc. He suggested using something like a paddle mixer that the plasterers use. Hereโ€™s the video I found it pretty useful Then the John baker video if youโ€™re interested ๐Ÿ‘

  11. I do a lot of baking mixing a kilo base mix by hand is not a problem so doubt I will use the drill, you could make a hook with a old tent peg the drill will hold that, I use it for mixing paints with a spoon. I have a good mixer with with hook in the kitchen but it will be less hassle to do it by hand, if I was knocking up ten kilo of paste in one go I would use a Hobart or similar not needed for this. it more about small batch outrageously high quality ingredients following well proven recipes at some point I will be getting some flours' in to make my own 50/50 mix as a base for more high end ingredients, look into chick pea and red lentil flour if such things would work similar to soya and maize flour some high end almond flour that sort of thing just so im sure that no matter what else i'm doing my bait is better than anything else I could of used. just not sure which fish meal base mix to use essential baits k5 looks like the best krill mix you can get in a pack?

  13. How much you planning on making at a time? Iโ€™m considering rolling again but hate needing the base mix into a dough. ive been looking into some dough mixers like a Hobart but they are quite pricey even second hand. Was thinking about getting a clean/new drum for a cement mixer and trying that ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  14. My ex used to find the tiniest little bit if I ever had a bait rolling session in the kitchen, and the smell of Trigga, Liver Elite, GLM powder and Sweet Cajouser actually woke her up one night. No such thing as a decent bait smell, even cinnamon and peach or eucalyptus and cherry smells overly strong and a bit off when boiling. Hemp has always been done outside of the house, the only good use of a Coleman Peak1 stove...

  15. i'm too old for nights out drinking that's for sure, took the mrs out keep her happy for when i head back onto the lakes started on the bottles of hob goblin gold, nice beer tastes like a strong shandy then we got onto the baileys followed by a bottle of red not a good mix i hate booze as it is that dehydrated feel the next day is just horrid, think next time she wants a night out i will get a young lad in to spin her round the town, i can get on with my bait rolling then.

    Using weights

Actually yes, you can leave the lead out it's just another variation of freelining... the downside (if you can call it that) is that in the event of a run you have to strike to set the hook, rather than letting the lead hook the fish for you.... its a method that I use on occasion at close range (margin fishing) give it a go... do summat different from the norm it often pays off
