  1. I can highly recommend PowerPro in 40lb & 50lb breaking strains. I’m using the 40lb as my general mainline. Since the water Im fishing is shallow and Im not fishing much beyond 100 yds max I’m using my actual fishing rods to spomb too. Makes things so much easier; find a spot with a bare lead, clip up, swop lead for Spomb to bait up, remove and replace with baited rig, voila!

  2. Snap. I've used every combo of materials you can imagine and braid straight through is the least hassle by miles imo.

  3. Ho ho ho We're starting to get to that time of year again, soon be Christmas and all that, 🎅🎅 Which particles would you include in your yuletide spod mix,? If it's anything like the last couple of years it may still be mild, so I was thinking trickle a bit of particle in regularly and try and keep them moving My mix so far I think hemp, groats, sweetcorn, maples, and maybe some crushed nuts and a few 12mm boilies, What is your winter spod mix?

  4. A French guy stopped at as he was leaving the lake today. “Any luck?” he asked. “About half a dozen carp but nothing very big”, I replied “How about you?” “I was fishing for perch (for the table)” he said “but caught nothing” then he added “I see you are fishing English style “ “Why, because I am fishing on the bottom?” I queried. “No” he said “Because you are put them all back after you catch them”

    Fishing English Style.

I was on a lake in France bite time was 6pm-6 am then I would bring the rods in and bait up then a cup of proper coffee and set off with a light spinning rod. I was returning a jack when Madam the owner of the complex came running out of the mist waving her arms cursing in French and could have been a bit of Italian mixed in shouting Nonnnnnnnnn !!! ‘Non fishing English style! I replied in perfect broken French sign language that I wasn’t English but Welsh pointing at the Welsh flag high above my bivvy The good Madam disappeared back into the mist shaking her head and still cursing. We later agreed a bottle of her homemade wine for a jack... The wine was delicious.

  7. That's good fancy a bit of a cloud in there, 🌥️☁️ The reason I am already asking is because that is already my plan, It started as a September thing but once you start you may as well keep on going with it was my thinking, I'm starting to get to my favourite fishing time of the year now hopefully I might start catching again soon 😁

  8. No it's fine mate. Tbh even fishmeal baits are OK in my experience. It's just high oil pellet you want to avoid. They key to winter baiting is timing imo. Any old decent bait will work. The trick is to start before winter and keep it going in. If you start in winter it's generally too late and you've missed the boat. But if you start early you can keep them visiting right through the colder months.

  9. I've been using pigeon mix lately, I could keep on with that I guess nice and cheep, it does make sense to continue, I do add some nuts to it though and I might start adding some corn for a bit more colour Is carnation milk bad to use in winter?

  10. I just carry on with whatever I'm using in summer/autumn tbh. I guess I cut down down on pellet and boilie but apart from that I just carry on.

    Spodding with mono

I hadn't even got to properly use it, it was a sad day lost a gripper lead too 😁 I had the 50lb spider one and it seemed OK for most things apart from needing to cast too far I think the 0.35mm should be better and fairly similar thickness to my main line, I have the 20lb exocet on my other rod, should I need more distance,

    Spodding with mono

Gutted! That's the problem with mono, it's fine until you get a frap up or something like that, then you're guaranteed to lose whatever it is you're casting out. As in Spider Wire? I struggled with that stuff, it has a waxy coating, doesn't behave too well.

    Spodding with mono

I pretty much came to that conclusion after losing my castable weed rake 😭 I've ordered some spider braid 35lb should be up to most tasks I need it for, the last lot I had was OK so will see

    Spodding with mono

You only really stretch mono on the initial loading of the rod in the cast if you feather you cast down nicely , a few turns of braid deals with that when it comes to spodding . If you hit the clip to hard it will stretch, your know if you have because it springs back towards you to release the energy created. Personally I use braid straight through for spod work .
