I've also read it's something to do with blood type. I'm the opposite of you, they love me. I react to the bites too. Still wont go near Jungle Formula/Lifesystems (DEET) though. Horrible stuff. Dyes your clothes and melts plastic. The Skin-So-Soft tends to work for me in the UK, as does Incognito. Abroad I really struggle. I've defo had fewer mozzi problems this year. I think most insect species are down in numbers.

I have hardly even had to resort to the Jungle Formula or Lifesystems this year, but the majority of the swims I have fished are tree or bush free and quite open. I do hardly get bitten though compared to other people, something to do with blood type apparently. Just my luck, I can't even pull a female mosquito π π I have seen plenty of chironomid hatches, seeing and hearing massive clouds of them above my bivvy. I'm wondering if the long dry warm weather possibly reduced numbers as boggy areas, streams and ponds have been dried out, and what has hatched recently on the occasional rainy day is facing increased competition to reproduce. On the occasion of being bitten or stung, I do have Savlon antiseptic cream in my rucksack. Stung: In June I was bivvy free opposite the island at the shallower end of the lake and woke up to something crawling just above my ear. Without thinking I attempted to grab it, it turned out to me a wasp and stung me on the head.

Fished with a mate on Friday who was on the new DNA test bait. He caught and I blanked so take from that what you will.

Everyone I know within a 5 mile radius has been bitten in the past 5-6 weeks. I had jungle formula on, sprayed the sheets (mmm that sweet aroma), but still had about 5 bites. Thankfully none in the past week.

If I get stung/bitten I use after bite, the sting of it working is a relief itself

I had a mozzie bite on my arm about 30 years ago and remember struggling to drive home as I could hardly change gear as it was so swollen and it lasted for a week. After that, nothing. I can't remember getting bitten in all that time. There are several threads on here about the merits of jungle formulae, Avon skin so soft and burning coils but didn't really need to act on it. Two weeks ago I got bitten, luckily just on my ear lobe and it was only a minor inconvenience. I decided to get some jungle formuale just in case and stuck it in my bag. Just got back from a Sunday to Tuesday session on another lake and on the Sunday, I had some buzzing around my ear and when I woke up the next morning I had been done with a series of bites across my forehead, neck and cheek. I try to avoid putting the door panel on my bivvy during the warmer months as I prefer to be able to look out and watch the water, even after dark. The second night I sprayed some jungle formulae on my chest and head and heard some mozzies approach during the night but they seemed to fly straight off again which was encouraging. I found one outside my bivvy the next morning and he got squashed into the chippings under my size 12! I've been up the chemist and got some Anthisan bite and sting cream which will go in my bag for future sessions. I wonder if the long hot summer we have had increased their numbers and activity time as conditions are still unseasonly warm.

Hello Everyone . I wonder if anyone has had the opportunity to use any DNA Baits since I posted in February , and if so what did you think of them please ?. π

When my son Levi was around 10 we used to build 1:72 aeroplane kits together, me supervising unless he got a particularly fiddly bit, and he had them hanging from his bedroom ceiling. On the modelling front, I normally avoid Airfix for WW2 German aircraft as they don't include the swastika tail plane decals. It's history, for right or wrong, but model kits are classed as toys, so apparently it's illegal to include them. Any German aircraft I tend to get are Tamiya models kits which do include the correct swastika decals, and there is sometimes 2 spare, so I might occasionally get an Airfix model as I can get the markings right. Every model I end up researching for correct markings, camouflage and the like as box art or instructions are sometimes incorrect. I did spend a lot of time researching HMS Hood and the Battle between Bismarck and Prinz Eugen. Airfix and the scale models built which were photographed on Hood, all had red anti-fouling paint on the hull. Research showed she actually had grey anti-fouling.

That's highly unusual given the temps....... do they know what the underlying issue is?

Mrs bought me a Tamiya Lunchbox several years ago. Throwback to my youth..... loved building it. With my lad turning 7 it's recently made a come-back. Great fun.

when my son got his first it turned into a whole family event watching him shave as the kids had never seen me do it, for reference i have a full on beard and have only ever shaved my head

i bought a load of bits and pieces during lockdown in an attempt to make something, dug them out recently and have managed to put together a few old Tamiya kits. have a very battered and loved Holiday Buggy and now a Gravel Hound 4wd to mess about with, still have an FTX racing truck thing though which is insanely fast and lots of fun. RC is still way cheaper than 40k though...........

Not sure if this would be classed as a priceless moment π I fished thorny Weir and the mets donkeys ago and had a mental take ! My left rod was cast about 50 yds out in line with a sunken barge they have in the lake and this torpedo came back at me the shot to the left into a overhanging bushes area of the margin where a few coots were hiding. Well I did manage to land the coot but the carp had got off the hook.

I bought a ftx bugster monster truck thing few years back..it was great fun and stupidly fast , I upgraded the chassis and other components to metal it cost me a quite a few quid and it just kept stripping the drive pinion gear . I ended up selling it ! My best mate is an ftx nut has several vantages and carnages and untold boxes of bits , it was he who persuaded me to get into the damn thing's lol . I did always like the crawlers though π

As @salokcinnodrog has said, just google and search, a very quick check by me seems to dig up a few results there π You do know this is Carp Forum tho? Perhaps, try a barbel forum? However I suspect they are even more secretive than any Carp forum?

Wychwood Rogue Rod
salokcinnodrog replied to Passionforangling's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Your best bet is probably a very good search through Ebay, hoping someone has obsolete stock, or is selling one. -
Hello there I'm after one of these rods I have one I just want a matching pair for barbel fishing any one know of one going anywhere cheers Billy

Those damn turtlesππ€π
Ryan Westbrook replied to Joe Quinn's topic in North American Carp Fishing
Hey! Another American angler here. Old thread but I thought I would reply in case it helps someone. I am in the very bottom of America, and turtles in isolation are incredibly cool animals. However, in fishing context, I have become convinced they are relentless hell beasts that serve satan. That being said, there are some things you can do to slow them down. Do not use any marine proteins or any proteins at all for that matter. For flavors only use fruit, sweet things like caramel etc and grains. I use fermented feed corn with oats as a pack bait. I use fake sinking corn as the hook bait, as when they do find it they canβt chew it apart. I also use flavored tiger nuts I make (banana, anise, chili). They can crunch them but usually leave them alone. Good luck -
I stepped out from some reeds into what looked to be water of only a few inches deep, yet I disappeared over my chest waders and struggled badly to move and get back out. Silt is VERY dangerous! I always use a prodding stick now after that experience.
