Nash Titan T1 Camo Pro vs Fox Frontier XD Camo
B33TR00T replied to B33TR00T's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
They both weight around the same, “stripped out”, the Nash weighs 12.5kg, the Fox weighs 12.6kg, then their like-for-like accessories (inner domes, groundsheets, overwraps) - are also similar in weight, give or take a kg in the end either way, there’s no significant difference between them. I refuse to use 12ft 2pc rods, it’s only thanks to Daiwa releasing the 4pc Ninja rods (13ft 3.50lb) in Europe that I was ship them in and get hold of some long range rods, before that my only carp rods have been Shimano TX-Lite (4pc, 10ft) … my chair is an Aeronium super lite (2.3kg) … bedchair cygnet grandsniper (8.4kg) … I have an original Aqua Atom Mk1 (3.5kg) the lightest and most compact bivvy ever made … I’m currently using a Sonik Xtractor Bivvy, similarly as light and compact as a Tempest Brolly and whatnot As it happens, I am literally Mr Lightweight, Mr Compact On a day session, nothing beats my West Lake Lc Day Shelter Pop up, I’ve had a Tempest 100 Brolly, I have an Atom, I’ve had the Fox Easy Shelter… for weight and packdown size combined with practicality, the West Lake Lc Day Shelter smokes everything… Recently I borrowed a Tempest RS 150, and it changed my whole perspective on bivvies specifically (for night fishing, not day shelters)… I used to obsess about packdown size and night fish with literally zero space in an Atom, but the Xtractor full system made me realise that a 120-160cm pack down size is “fine”, coming from an Atom which packed down to 78cm… (an additional 10kg give or take on the barrow is insignificant to me, it being a manageable / storable size was the most important) …the point is, when I did accept a bigger pack down size, especially after borrowing the RS 150, the comfort on the bank increased exponentially, far far far far outweighing the convenience of the likes of a Tempest 100 Brolly. I just don’t buy into the “brolly for a quick overnighter” cliche anymore, what’s a “quick overnighter”? It’s 24 hours… it’s not a variable it’s a constant… 24 hours on the bank is not “quick” under any circumstances, 24 hours is always 24 hours, and it’s always long, “sleeping in this crisp packet will do you for a quick overnighter”, marketing spiel. Let’s take setup for an example: A Tempest Brolly takes 2? minutes, weighs 10kg? All in A Titan Bivvy takes 7? minutes, weighs 17kg? All in Option A. - do I want to be cramped and hunched and less uncomfortable for 23hours 58minutes, and push 7kg less ? or Option B. - do I want to be liberated and spacious and more comfortable for 23hours and 53minutes, and push 7kg more? I used to be obsessed with Option A, but after borrowing that RS 150 system, I’ll never compromise on that comfort again… based on that I’ve ended up double ordering 2 of the most comfortable bivvies on the market, but like I said - I can only keep one. - Today

Nash Titan T1 Camo Pro vs Fox Frontier XD Camo
framey replied to B33TR00T's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Depends on if you want to camp or carp lol all joking aside never used either so can’t help sorry. i would imagine the Nash being the weight of a small transit and the fox the weight of a mini that alone may make a difference depending on how you get from vehicle to swim. unless I’m doing any longer than a weekend then I would either be under a fast and lite or a trakker tempest mk1 brolly. Depending on weather and time of year so think they would both be over the top for my fishing. -
I’ve got 2 brand new bivvies in the living room right now… Nash Titan T1 Camo Pro Fox Frontier XD Camo … both the latest and greatest versions from their respective brands … unfortunately I can only keep 1, and 1 has to go 😔 In any case, the HD groundsheet and Inner Dome will be used pretty much all of the time, but addons are not much of a decided factor here, the main deciding factor for me is… … the Nash is marginally wider by 6cm, significantly longer by 18cm - and it’s 3-0 to the Nash… because on height, 183cm at the peak, 158cm at the door, where as research tells me that the Fox 143cm at the door (despite being 165cm overall in height). I’ve seen it argued that the XD has more “useable” height, due to the steep slope of the Nash, the Nash has a higher peak and door, but the Fox maintains much more of its height towards the back… but then I’m thinking… is height above the bedchair really “useable”? As long as there’s head clearance when sitting on the bedchair, I can’t think of why more height above the bedchair is of any use… Pack down size is another slight edge for the Nash, and it just “looks better” to me as a personal preference. So that’s all of the context behind my thinking, but onto the most important thing that can only come from you - the people who know these 2 bivvies… quality, usability, reliability, the stuff which can not be assed on paper, because ultimately I want to keep the “best” one, they will both suit my needs excellently, so it really comes down to finding out which is actually the best when it comes down to quality/usability/reliability - which one is most worth it’s money? Cheers

Grief, another month gone and we are into August already

The only downside with that is how much you cut off, snap off during the life of the line. Every few sessions I cut mine back to fresher line as it wears or shows damage. Thats why I like my yellow backing line just strip it to that and it works every time I've even changed between 0.35mm and 040mm Gardner lines and it uses 1 spool per 3 rods bang on for both.

Actually make it even easier, go 250metres, or 69wraps at 3.66 metres (12ft) and then you can get 2 fills from 1 1000metre spool
-
Thanks. I will keep this in my little book of handy ideas. Les
-
Put this in your memory, when you need to replace the line, take off around 300metres (80 odd wraps at 3.66m or 12ft, its actually just under at 292metres) and spool new line on top of it.
-
Good idea, never thought of that and it’s so simple.
-
I just fill my spools with something cheap like a 100m spool in the same bs as the stuff I want to use and then just fill up with the other line. as long as it comes on 100m spools I don’t care it never gets replaced. usually get 3 spools filled out of a bulk spool then. i would get bored counting turns and probably loose count anyway..

I’ve just done both reels with 1000m Korda 15lb and got a bit left over. I used the uni knot on bot my reels. I was surprised how easy the knot was to make.
-
The 'through the middle' elasticated ones, I used to cut the elastic out and either use in-line or attach a quick link to. Have fun, it's a good method (sic) for carp, bream and even roach in carp waters.
-
Well, I've had a forage through the far reaches of the shed and found several old method feeders. I'd even got a couple of the large, elasticated ones but they're in the bin as potentially hazardous in the case of a break-off. Favourite among the rest are some quite large, three-vaned ones by Korda which I intend to use. I'll report back with results, if any. Ian.

I’ve got the shallow as well as the deep spools. Just weighed the both and the deep comes in with line at 7oz and the shallow with line 5oz… I was a bit bored 😁
-
Thanks for the calculator I’ve had a look at the calculator which works out at 421m per spool. I could get both of my spools filled with the 1000m spool. Les

I put some backing on my 8ks, I worked it out so I could split a Gardner spool of line 3 ways. And just bought some cheap line off amazon. You can use a calculator like this one to help ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://www.pattayafishing.net/advanced-fishing-reel-line-capacity-estimator/
-
Thanks for that. I must admit, when looking at that knot I thought it looked a bit bulky. The Okuma has a line capacity of 0.35/ 550. My line is 0.40 spool size 1000m. Which I suspect means I will either need to use some backing or buy another spool. Les

First time with new reels is fun... The first time I put line on new reels (or spools) is to see what they take in terms of amount (say 15lb 0.35 380metres) and fill them with 15lb line, I do a uni knot loop, put it on the reels, pull tight and wind line on. If the line spool contains 1000m then the last bit is left on the spool. If the 3rd reel needs line I use a brand new line spool, so first time you might end up buying 2 spools of line.
-
I have finally got my new Okuma 8k reels, I have now to fill them with line. What is the best way to start it off, is it knot the line or using a knot. If the latter what knot would you use? Les

Kev's a legend, best videos and music by far - so funny although he's made me cringe a few time with his tightness, loaded but begging meals lol We've got Dintons being stocked in my current syndi and in the previous one they have almost reached 60lb - one particular batch of 8 have all gone 50+ great fish! There's another guy who's taken UK fish abroad, France and Italy pretty mad really and US fish Dale Hollow being bred here 😎👍
-
If I'm not mistaken, That bloke who owns the lake in France is mates with the bloke I referred to who breeds the Leney's over here. And yes seen a couple of videos of Kev fishing there. I think I've watched all of his videos now on YouTube and in my opinion he's never done a bad one. He has me in stitches a lot of the time. I liked his ones from back in the day, especially the Harrow waltonians ones, its the only ticket that i've got a lake for. As for some of the UK strains being saved , the Harrow fish have been bred by VS fisheries and kev does a video with Simon Scott. My old lake has dinton fish, Harrow fish, priory fish and obviously some original Leney's, a proper mix. Wish I'd kept that ticket as well now incase I got back in to carp fishing.
