andy1664uk Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I use wide gapes and also the Gardner talon tips. Favouring the talons at the mo though Quote
merlin35 Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Thats a hard question. if the fish are being careful about what they pick up i use wide gape's, if theyre bein greedy i use long-shanks, i think that they self-hook better. They struggle to blow them out. hehe Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Fangs for me,never had a problem with them yet,use em for bottom baits and pop ups, sharp as fikk. Quote
joshbarkley Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 i voted ESP raptors, i use these hooks and i havnt lost a fish sinse i startted using them, also there very strong and very sharp. Quote

humpy Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 i use the nash fang mainly i find they stay sharp unlike esp raptors they go blund easily also the korda widegapes are very good as well as the longshanks:D Quote
rick_preece Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Short shank Nailers or Mugga's, for me! Quote
tigernuttom Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 The korda wide gapes anyday, ten times sharper than anythin else, ten times lighter for greater hooking capabilities and the B ones is very strong. I think the ESP ones and Muggas are no way near as sharp and would never use em again afta a session i had where they went blunt so quickly!!! tigernuttom:) Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Carp-R-Us Nailers, Longshank Nailers, Centurions, Kamasan B175's, Drennan Super Specialist. Quote
petek Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 I think the short and simple answer is to use the appropriate pattern for the rig you are using. The question of quality is another matter.  A couple of years ago I lost a VERY big fish when the hook and hooklink separated. The end of the braided hooklink was very frayed. A couple of hours later the same thing happened again. It prompted me to closely examine the hooklinks I had tied the day before. I was horrified to find that the hooks’ eyes were very poorly finished. In some instances the eyes were not closed to the shank and left sharp edges. This is obviously not good, particularly so if you are using a knotless knot whipped to the shank.  Since then I have been meticulous in choosing the hooks to use. I examine every hook with a magnifying glass paying particular attention to the point and the eye. I take no chances. Disappointingly, and perhaps rather disturbingly, I reject about one in four. I have yet to find a make that consistently produces the fault free hook. Quote
