Whats the point in a bait runner reel?

Possibly, but then again if it was done in a single process i.e front drag,quick turn less than 5mm, i get it i do just seems alot more hassle than its worth, yes horses for courses, don't like the horse! Ha ha

but thats the whole point, you do not need to set the fighting drag as it should be set before your first cast then IF you need to alter it during a scrap then that is no different to the way you fish, also once you have set the rear clutch for the bait runner AFTER YOUR FIRST CAST, it also requires no further attention.

set your line to your desired tension( tight/semi/slack), rod in the pod, clip on your stows or whatever then one flick of the finger to set the runner and any more is just being a tart

I have both and use both. Both are used exactly the same way with one being a switch on the back and the other a kno.b on the front.

 

No difference between the two.

 

Incidentally, the person / persons that are walking around the lake leaving theirs on 'free spool' could do so with or without baitrunners

I can't remember one instance where I've lost a fish and thought "the baitrunner caused that".

I use baitrunners, wouldn't have it any other way.

I sit on my rods all the time, never leave them.

The baitrunner, to me, is one of the best innovations in fishing,

With a Big pit you pick the rod up hand over the spool adjust the drag start playing fish

 

Bait runner you pick the rod up flick a switch start playing fish, this is quicker than using a Big pit.

You don't even have to flick the switch, (although I always do)' ...just start reeling in and the baitrunner disengages.

I use both big pit and bait runner reels

The big pits are my set up with 3.1/2 tc rods

That I use on my local res were distance casting is needed and would not be achievable with a smaller bait runner reel.

For smaller waters then I use my bait runners with 2.1/2 tc rods
