avfc1985 Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 20, 2012 okay abit vague i agree. the lake is 9 acres with a stock of 260 french royale grass, common and mirror carp to 46 lbs. mostly 20's to 25s it is spring and river fed and the bottom of the lake is sand with gravel in some areas. the depths are 4ft to 19 ft in some areas with an average of 7ft. by the time we will go the lake will be into its 6th week of fishing. from re-opening. this will be a new stocking of the lake, were going early may. so im hoping the weather is good . im just trying to get a rough idea of the amount of bait il need from experienced anglers that have fished for this length of time and on a lake this size. as i havnt. thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ouchthathurt Posted January 20, 2012 Report Share Posted January 20, 2012 i'm assuming that this lake is owned/bailliffed by someone? that you have had to make contact with someone linked with said lake and hand over the readies? Â your best bet is to emails or call the lake owners/baillifs and ask them, they will know what to expect and will (should anyway) want you to get the best out of your trip, the best advice is local advice mate. Â you see, i could tell you to tip n 50Kg straight off, yet the carp might spook off 1kg of bait over the spot, wihout speaking to people who know the place, you really cant guess. Â make the wrong decision and its a lot of wasted bait/money/time/trip for poor rewards. Â remember the old saying, you can put more in, but you cant take it out again. avfc1985 Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 20, 2012 oh yeah, its all above board lol. the fishery sell all there own boillies and particles, which are matrix plus which ive read these are good and i will go with them, i want to have a little competition on each rod and find out which does the best, and then il obv switch to whats being the most productive, well hopefully anyway. i want to take some with me, maybe a few kilo of cell, grange, or nash monster squid for my hookbait. its cheaper for pre-order but more expensive for the fisheries baits, when we are there. ive emailed the owner he says go with 5 kilo and i no as much il need more. this is why i ask what people think. the one thing also bugging me, this is a new stock, and come from a fishfarm and reared on pellet, so do you think these will be easier to catch and less spooked or be hard as there new to there new habitat and surroundings? carpquarry Posted January 21, 2012 Report Share Posted January 21, 2012 I would say whatever lake you go to buy the bait at that lake as that is what they have been fed the most and will take with no problems, Not sure what lake you are talking about maybe Les Rivets. If this is the case and its a new stock of carp get the pellet that the fish were fed on from the lake , not another pellet that you think is the same. The carp may not be hard on the boilies so take arma mesh or something like that so that you can put pellets into and fish like a boilie and who knows you may have it off this way. avfc1985 Posted January 21, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 21, 2012 yeah its les rivets. thanks for the advice and il most likely do that. the info i know is he will be feeding them all around the lake and in different swims to move them around the lake. and like u say i think the pellet will be my best bet as theyve been reared on them. when we go it will have been opened for its 6th week of fishing so im thinking if the boilies would of been piled in for 6 weeks or from the re-stock in jan, maybe a question i should ask. but also i think info will be short as there wont be many that have been there to ask. anyway i cant wait. thanks again Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

avfc1985 Posted January 21, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 21, 2012 you have a nice fishery there mate, quite like the history that goes with it. your lake is the size i am used to fishing as i feel more confident. il def keep this in mind as this will be my first year carp fishing in france, so if i enjoy it then it will be a regular holiday for me i think. all the best and thanks for the help. frenchboy Posted February 10, 2012 Report Share Posted February 10, 2012 If the new fish are from a French fish farm they will be use to pellets and plenty of them you will not believe the amount the French feed them so they might be scared of boillies and my experience of French fish from a farm is they do like pellets but seem to love anything halibut so may be worth a tub of halibut pop ups as a back up. I always work on a theory of if no bites get the halibut pop ups out with a Pva bag of pellets to go out with it always ends up working for me. I caught my very first carp on a Nash halibut boilie, albeit only a few pound, but il never forget it I've been carping abit now and i seem to use the hyped up baits.
