  1. Ive used the windcast br reels for ages, never let me down, look and feel very nice. Very nice reel for the money.
  2. I loved my delks, had some serious issues last year with a new set i bought, the range was terrible, i was standing in the next swim (not far) having a tea when i heard alarms scream off, couldn't be mine as my receiver was in my pocket, but it was, this happened twice more that session. When i come home i sent the receiver back to delkim, they said there was indeed something wrong with it and sent me a brand new one. on my next trip, first run the receiver made some odd noises then stopped indicating the current run. over this session this problem persisted and again the range problem returned, a couple of times not registering while i was asleep in my bed 12 foot from my rods. When i got back i went mental on the phone to delkim, 2 trips ruined, they asked me to send my entire kit back to see it the issue was the alarms themselves, so i did, got back a complete new set, so this is now the 3rd receiver and second set of brand new alarms in a couple of months, went of my annual week trip for my bday, and guess what all the same problems. It was not the location of the lake, people either side of me had delks, the batteries were top quality, mind boggling stuff. Im not slating them, as the set i had for years previous to these i couldn't fault, never let me down in the worst of the weather. By far the best alarms on the market and yes i would put some of my success down to delks indication, but after last year i have lost all faith in them, im hearing similar stories from people who have bought new set of delks over the last year or 2. Maybe they are using cheaper parts, maybe something has changed in the making process, maybe i was just unlucky 3 timers in a row with brand new kit. As for wind effecting indication, go for the nitelite pro kit or duo carb setup for your swingers and the only time you get a bleep is a fish on.
  3. Looks like ill be ordering one, thanks guys!
  4. Any tried it? like the idea of being able to stick it to the roof or anywhere else, plus the recharable batteries will save me in the long rum.
  5. i Cheaped out, went for the s5r alarms, couldn't find a bad review on them, dont come with a lot of extras but are apparently bomb proof, and after last year being let down on numerous trips but a top brand i just want something that will continue to work over and over. I wanted the r3 but after speaking to nash they dont have a nite lite function like the delks do, the internal led only illuminates boobing when alrm is sounded. Being a bit of a tackle tart that was one of the main reasons i was drawn to the r3 as i loved the nitlite on the dleks. Ill be using the s5r`s soon and will let you know how i got on.
  6. Lqast year i had the plastic hook in the korda helisafe stap on a big cast numerous times in one session, i found that anything more that 2.5-3oz weights would do this even on a reasonable cast.
  7. Nice one, its a shame with the delks but you know whats it like when you loose faith in something, gotta go. Was looking at the nevs and fox ones, but the nash really stood out for me, ill give em a go.
  8. sorry duplicate thread, dont know what happened there.
  9. Wassup people, Been a while, hope you all been well and had plenty of beasts in your nets. Time to dust off the rods and get my ass on the bank. Had some issues with numerous sets of delks last year, lost all faith in them. I love the look and idea of the siren R3 alarms by nash. Anyone using them?
  10. a couple of fellas i fish with went there, ill have a chat with them and let you know what they thought of the place
  11. i use the daiwa windcast br reels, very well made, feel solid, well balanced.
  12. what is weird about this thread is i have had some issues with my delks, i sent them back and got sent a new set only to find the new ones doing the same thing. i had a set a few years back and they were faultless never let me down. this year in total ive had 1 new reciever and 2 more sent back and 2 txi`s which had to go back and a new set of 2 sent out, which had the same issue. im hearing more and more from other people about issues with delks that have been purchased recently.
  13. i have used both the original and the newer version, both excellent lines if you like you flouro. but after a lot of reading and research i changed over to x-line this year, it is the best flouro ive ever used, i have it in 20lb and it is still the most supple flouro ive ever used, sinks better too.
  14. i was reading a thread about fishing with braid, this is what prompted my thoughts on the saftey side of leader. in the thread (please dont ask me to find it, im allergic to the search button ) people were saying when using braid that you should always use a hooklink of a lower breaking strain, this makes absolute sense when you think about t a break in the link, the hooklink would go before the braid. when you look at leaders, leadcore or safzone are the ones i have experience with, these have breaking strains much higher than any hooklink or line a carp angler should ever need to use. i remember when i first got into fishing everyone seemed to be using these leaders for 99% of their fishing, this was the free dvd ear so im sure that had something to do with it. in fact most of the guys ive seen fishing still are. just wanted to see others thoughts on this.
  15. thanks newmarket. the info isnt really for me, more of an educational thread on why/when/how leaders should be used. for me dropping the lead was what i had been told was best for the fish, i soon learnt otherwise by posting here. so i thought some differing opinions on leaders may do the same for others. that looks a great thread ill be sure to have a good read.
  16. hey guys, Leaders, do you use them? how often? for what reason? im asking because like my lead dropping thread i think a few opinions on the subject may enlighten both novice and experienced angler alike. keeno.
  17. i read an aritcle on these, ill be giving them a go.
  18. i love the plugged in lead. imo the more weight and less movement of a lead can only pull a hook home better, obviously i wouldn't be using this if my silty area was in the middle of heavy weed. also another reason i like to use a longer hooklink, giving the bait enough natural movement but the minute the fish realizes its in trouble and bolts its like hitting a brick wall. these days i find myself using heavier and heavier leads for that reason.
  19. coming from a fellow noddy its hard to gauge. if i know im fishing over silt i just do everything i can to combat it. longer hook link, a more supple one to, a stiff hooklink in deeper silt may actually sink in and leave the exposed hook link and hook actually sticking out at an angle from the lake bed. ill always use foam nuggets as well, the idea being that the hook will settle on top of the silt even if the lead has plugged in, a supple hooklink will also settle neater this way.
  20. i agree with the lead being heavy in silt.
  21. funnily enough this happened on my last trip. i was using standard bottom rigs and doing well, didnt loose a single fish, this was over silt, i was using heavy leads with an 8-10 inch soft coated braid. i had just got the new heli-safe system and wanted to give it a go so chucked a chod rig out to the same spot that was doing well. i had a number of funny indications on the delkims, but know run, when i pulled the chod in it had indeed been moved a considerable distance, i recast the chod back to the same spot, again a few funny bleeps, then it screamed off, i pulled into the fish and fought for a minute, then the fish come off, the only fish i lost that session. put me off chods for silty conditions. a longer hair on a supple hooklink is the way to go imo. chods/heli rigs dont really get used in my fishing, i was just trying out a new item on that occasion, the only time i would use them is if i had to fish over weed.
  22. i would be getting the longbow floater special, would you recommend sticking with my current reels, windcast br big pits instead of a smaller one?
  23. hey guys, the new lakes im looking at will allow me a chance at float/surface fishing. the rods i have are 3.5lb and my reels are big pits. im gonna get a dedicated floater rod to match my other rods but am stuck on which reel to get. im looking at the diawa therory reels, they look light enough for the job. anyone used these reels? if not can anyone recommend any reels (from diawa) that are good enough for only float fishing? keeno.
  24. luckily i work for myself, and due to the nature of my work i can leave at any time to avoid rush hour traffic. id still be doing weekends, but hopefully leave on a friday morning or even a thursday night. a few nights a week may be a tad ambitious, more likely a weekend every 2 weeks. but having the option of just going when i feel like it and only paying a small fee once a year will make that more likely.
