  1. Always liked the look of hunts corner myself, I normally do a three day session at least once a year, Dog lane is where I would usually go, but he has banned dogs around the pool side, but not the camp site, there was a lot of campers walking their dogs around the lake, but I wouldn't call it a problem. So linears might get a visit this year, as they allow dogs.
  2. I think the fluro my of done me wrong on Tuesday, I was surprised I didn't catch. I done so well on a fluro braid combi rig last summer I stuck with it all day. Had a similar first day out last year fishing a coated combi rig for most of the day, only last year I tied up a basic super nova rig for the last few hours and had a nice mirror out, think I’m going to tie a few up with the supper nova for next time.
  3. I used a fluorocarbon and braid combi rig for all my fishing last year, will do the same this year too, Fox armapoint ssc size 6 hook. I was using a snake bite hook length, but I prefer the fluorocarbon as it stays tidy and the braid makes for a better hair loop. I use it as I think it is one of the more difficult rigs for the carp to blow out.
  4. City had a win yesterday, first home win since October, should they stick with the caretaker manager or bring in a new guy?
  5. Elvis has left the building Coventry have sacked their manager after slipping into the relegation places, Bad call if to ask me can't see them queuing up for that job, no money and fans that boo their own team, plus the whole SISU out campaign has really split the fans. I haven’t heard of a replacement as yet and it has been a few days now since Pressley left, I can see that club winding up and being no more, there will be riots in this town on that day, locals with pitch forks and burning torches storming the Ricoh.
  6. Hia, this place might just be in your range, not fished it myself, but it seems ok going by the web site, it's a tad more than 30m from Newport, but the facilities look top notch for access. http://www.celticlakesresort.com/
  7. I have loads of blurry night photos, I do a test in day light, but a lot of the night shots come out blurry, I use a Fuji on a timer
  8. This is one of the better commons I had out last year, there was a stock of commons in barston from before the golf course was built, those and the mirror carp from Nasby are what most carp anglers go up for.
  9. Hopefully so. Haven't been out since last August, took my nephew to barston, little git ran the legs off me, so I have spent the last six months giving up smoking, didn't fancy the temptation of a quick ciggie while out on the bank side, i'm pretty much set as a non smoker now, so i'll be back out soon. My nephew had a nice mirror out, so I sent his photo into the Angling Times, he was well chuffed, got a certificate back from them.
  10. Seems to me some lakes are bringing in bans just to keep carp anglers off the waters, looked a few venues and can see no reason why they have such rules, one water I'm looking at has a hook size rule, nothing bigger than a size 8. An 18mm boilie would dwarf a size 8 hook, could add up to a lot of blown takes.
  11. Check out my new camo leads, gonna rock barston this year with these babies
  12. Probably one of the best carp waters in that part of the midlands, I always try and get up there a few times a year. What with it being so mild now might be a good time to beat the weed growth. on a quiet day the margins fish real well, they seem to travel the same routs around the pool too, so ambush tactics work well, they are more than likely hold up in the main road side of the pool at this time of year, a little and often baiting approach would be best, to deep water. gets real busy from next month onwards, a lot of the Canal pool members come over due to the close season on canal pool.
  13. Lol, Barston is stuffed with F1s, has been for a number of years now. Still a good place for a 20lb + fish though. I was surprised by just how busy it was on Saturday, that and the fish were showing, some anglers up there where doing over night, still a bit cold for that. It's the opening times that put me off makins. Lavender Hall is fishing well too, my neighbour works there says there have been a few good fish out already this year, it has been a mild winter though. Hows you been keeping Bivvystreet, been out yet this year? or are you like me and waiting for the weather to heat up a bit.
  14. Having fished both waters in the past few years, I would go with Barston. Makins is a good place too, but Barston is more relaxed and has better opening times. I'm thinking of doing most of my fishing at Hopsford hall this year. When I was up Barston on Saturday there was a lot of carp coming out, one guy had five fish by the afternoon the largest was 18lb, pretty good I thought for this time of year, I was not fishing, just out with the dog.
