Havnt been cat fishing for years but we caught useing, Live baits on dumb bell rigs wen its muggy and mild. Wen its cooler maybe dyson rig. If pike are an issue useing live bait fish maybe leeches or worms be worth ago. Both can be presented well on dumbell and dyson rig. Mackeral and sardienes are good dead baits just ledgerd over a bed of halibuts and liquadised liver mixed with halibut ground bait and chunks of dead fish deadly.

Does anybody know what sort of condition the wye is in at the moment. Thinking of going down sunday but dont want to turn up to a muddy torrent. Plan to fish for pike in the day and carp at night so hopeing its not carrying alot of colour and extra water!

yea the 60 dead most of em dead in avenue and good few on monument. Shocking how these horrible overstocked completely unatural holes in the ground suffer from these sorts of things.

Just keep it simple mate standard hair rig lead clip or running rig and use longer hook links i had walk round randlay yest and its only weedy in the bottom bay further up its clear. id be useing minimum 15lb in blue and randlay. wrekin rez really nice water. you need strong gear there aswel hit and hold. Randlay pool only couple hundred yards from blue plenty of doubles and few 20ties nice lake and its quiet. Wrekin res plenty of doubles and odd 20 again nice looking lake and its quiet. Chods are so over used its incredible far to blatent imo for lots of situations. The best thing about chods is amount of people who are useing it leaving simple hair rigs well alone. Suits me. Personally I like my hook bait to blend in with The free bees as much as possible majority of The time paticually if The fish are pressured. Chods can make The carps life very easy in lot of lakes. Chod has its time and place but don't need to use them as much as many people do. Slightest bit of silt or weed they run to The chod. :roll

If it is sutton bank the stocking mentioned above isnt in there. few 20ties to around 25lb and loads of doubles. sutton bank nearer newport than market drayton so mite be different place!

Depends what you want out your fishing if its a twenty at all costs and looks and merit don't come in to it get on monument. Cromwell not my idiea of fishing but at least some better looking fish in there. Linear good option good chance of a twenty and they ain't wronguns or at least the majority in st johns and Manor arnt anyway. If you want some proper carp over twenty closer to home check out westport stoke on trent.

nobody said to use it with only maggots as that would be dangerous but it was explained at the start of the thread in detail about the use of artificial corn been used to mask the size 14 hook.

If instead of useing that size 14 as part of the hair and you used the 14 as its used in the said rig as your main hook bait how many fish would you hook? thats right non. The scenio your talking bout would be a so unlikely it makes it safe enough to use imo!

Personally dont think the rig is any more dangerous than any other rig. Wouldnt use it personally because a needle and cotton does the job but the above post about sealing a carps mouth and the fish dieing is ridiculous its not going to happen.
