  1. If you do a lot of spodding keeno Reel = Daiwa emblem spod Rod = free spirit 13ft spomb , which is in budget.
  2. Think this underlines the major advantage of buying off rod builders like Harrison / free spirit . The rods that finally get released have been tested right through there development stages, rather than just an import blank with a different label stuck on it depending on who takes them on . Talking with Terry on the casting days , he is quite often in the Harrison factory literally watching test rods being made & then casting with them the same day, then they tweak the blank to get what there trying to achieve. Yonny Your right about Hutchy testing the ctx rods, both factories know that if it can handle Terry or Hutchy then there pretty indestructible rods in most people's hands .
  3. Not so sure about this mate .... the Hi-s rods are completely different technology as there a low resin carbon lower than any other rods out there by miles hence the price . Agree though that the ctx are great rods for that price bracket.... also think they have another range that's just been released all under the 150 a rod mark .
  4. I sort of drop in between the two. I use my flood water barbel rod 2.75 lb & I find it perfect for bigger fish off the top & it can chuck a loaded float on long way .
  5. Personally I think coiling of any line is down to how you load it on your spool....rather than the line itself. Unless it's on a reel that's not been used for some time.
  6. You won't regret getting the rig marole line it really does seem to tick a lot of boxes , I was fishing semi slack with it the other week on two margin rods & it hung down perfectly with no sign of it wanting to coil , like yonny mentioned I got it in 15lb & can't see any reason for stepping up to 20 lb , think yonny said he might try the 15lb next time . As a side note ..... are you mad yonny 100 + yards think of all the fish your be casting over Buy in confidence Richard it's a quality snag line with out doubt ..... once you get used to the colour
  7. And a fine job you do too mate , always looks spot on
  8. Sounds like a good challenge this lake any chance of a guesty?
  9. This could be all you need to get them looking like new . http://www.cotswoldrods.co.uk/product-category/accessories/
  10. Anyone using these? Thinking maybe yonny has ? Any good?
  11. Definitely mate .... if i tried to load my 2.75 rods for a 150 chuck it would explode during the cast . I have a selection of rods for a reason this being one of them . & unless your casting over ground & measuring your cast your never know your true distance. Hitting the clip doesn't mean your casting the distance wrapped up !
  12. Only an hour from me mate , you will have to pop up & check the hives out . Might even have a small colony you could have to get you started if they have wintered OK. Also churn is just down the road so you will have to pop & see us when we are on . Might be able to hand you back Nige's tea duties too Be good to catch up at some point
  13. Appears to be the pigment used for the colour This was after one spool .
  14. Did you notice the red residue left in the damp rag after spooling ? Always good to get that factory grime off as it goes on. Sure the colour will be fine lol
  15. Not sure about the colour mate Bedded on well , was hitting the clip at 140 with it yonny, in cross winds so can't moan at that . I can tell it's got the abrasion properties you mentioned too, did a little test & it can take some real abuse before it gives up, Thanks for the heads up That colour though
  16. Dean ,will post it on Monday . Just logged in to get your address from my pm's . Still can't get on with all this scrolling you have to do now on here .
  17. I'm not paying postage though bud .... that would be taking the mick
  18. no problem mate , what do you prefer.... torrix or hi-s
  19. I take it this is the bit you need Pm me your address & I'll stick it in the post .
  20. What bit is missing fella? I have an old set that haven't seen the light of day for so many years your welcome to the part you need or just have a complete swinger .
  21. interesting Nick , I take it ....it's just to make it up to the thickness required, rather than them have to stock different size seats .
  22. Think i'm wrong with carp rods being two separate sections , was thinking there the same as barbel rods think the modern reel seats just slide down into position. Not sure now lol
  23. Normally reel seats are part of the structure of tge rod ... & is basically where your two sections join ie the butt section & first section of the main rod , obviously not the case with your rods Phil ? Sounds like it's just a sleeve as such over the blank ? Post a pic .
  24. Think it's a river he personally wants to fish Bishop, I remember talking to theo about it 4-5 years ago on here . I was still fishing the Wye a lot back then & Funnily enough I'm heading back to the rivers this year myself. Mainly the Wye but the Severn will also have some time spent on it.... got my eye on a stretch that could easily do a record fish if my lucks in + some big carp .
