Show your Barrow load out
carpepecheur replied to dayvid's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Living off my old age pension limits my purchasing power but not my imagination. I use a home made barrow which is very easy to pull because of its large wheels, is preloaded at home, fits snugly into a VW Golf without packing/unpacking and makes a handy fishing station at the swim. Larger items simply strap on top. ----- and it has NEVER tipped over. -

Strange happenings on the bank.

I was just about to go and get my shark equipment to catch Jaws until I realise it was a deer swimming across the lake. -

Hope everyone in UK is safe. Stick to the guidelines it could be worse. MANILA (Reuters) - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has warned violators of coronavirus lockdown measures they could be shot for causing trouble and said abuse of medical workers was a serious crime that would not be tolerated.
-
From the same government web site:- The police will act with discretion and common sense in applying these measures and we expect the public to act responsibly, staying at home in order to save lives. However, if the police believe that you have broken these rules ā or if you refuse to follow their instructions ā a police officer may issue you with a fixed penalty notice for Ā£60 (reduced to Ā£30 if paid within 14 days). If you have already received a fixed penalty notice, the amount will increase to Ā£120 and double on each further repeat offence.
-
In France, ignoring that rules gets you ā¬135 fine first offence, ā¬1500 fine for second and after three infractions 6 month imprisonment. If a few selfish people ignore that advice then the UK will get lumbered with the same thing.

This is the government advice ā copied and pasted from their own web site. "You should only leave the house for very limited purposes: Ā· shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible. Ā· one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household. Ā· any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person. Ā· travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home. These reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household." Now which part of āstop at the lake and fish for 2/3 weeksā fits that advice? This is not a game. People ARE dying. Be responsible.

I think Dayvid is making a good point. What starts off as an EXCUSE for exercise, then becomes an excuse to fish, then of course you will need a barbeque and a few drinks and a few friends to help and ā¦ā¦.. Itās a bit like that bloke stopped halfway up Snowdon in a Range Rover claiming he was going to exercise. WTF Wot Bluebell said. This thing is killing people. Stay at home and go nowhere unless you have to feed yourself or get medicine ā and it only takes one of you. How hard can it be? Disclaimer ā I am over 70 with COPD so I have a vested interest in people sticking to the very simple rules. I am not ready to die yet just because some [censored] is getting a bit bored.

Just to lighten the mood. Play this at full volume.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion but I fact checked the Off Guardian website that you quote and this is what they said about them. Their conclusion is rather telling. āIn review, OffGuardian reports news with a pro-Russian bias. Many articles are very critical of the Ukraine, such as this Ukraine admitted to interfering in the 2016 US election on Clintonās side. This story does not offer hyperlinked sourcing, but rather translations of documents. OffGuardian also frequently promotes conspiracy theories regarding GMOās such as this: Post-Brexit Farming, Glyphosate and GMOs. Although this story utilizes some credible sources, it also cites Mercola, which is a website that promotes quackery level pseudoscience. They also promote 9/11 conspiracies such as this The Fakest Fake News: The U.S. Governmentās 9/11 Conspiracy Theory. They frequently cover False Flags and the US Deep State conspiracy as well anti-vaccination propaganda. In an article by Ukrainian fact checkerās, Stop Fake, they write about the OffGuardian as āRussian trolls exiled from Guardian find home for their hate.ā Politically, there is a wide range of opinions expressed, with many falling on the pro-socialist side, such as this: Anti-Capitalism is NOT Anti-Semitism. Overall, we rate OffGuardian a Strong Conspiracy and Moderate Pseudoscience website that also promotes Russian propaganda. (D. Van Zandt 5/29/2019)ā You are free to choose whomever you wish to believe but for myself I would rather listen to The World Health Organization. The Chinese turned the tide on the virus by using lockdown. It is inconceivable to me that there could have been fewer death if they had not done so. I suggest (respectfully) that your views are dangerous.

"The āincubation periodā means the time between catching the virus and beginning to have symptoms of the disease. Most estimates of the incubation period for COVID-19 range from 1-14 days, most commonly around five days. " source The World Health Organisation ( WHO ). However, if you have a link to more accurate research please share the link. This is a serious situation and we need accurate information. If the period is 27 days then we must stay isolated for 27 days - or whatever it takes. People are dying and a bit more isolation to save more lives is surely a price worth paying.

How does that work then?

Yes its a very good idea. I cannot understand why it is not being introduced in UK. Although you can print the form from a gov web site you sign a solemn declaration that you have told the truth. Then, if you get caught out, you get a fine for breaking the travel restriction and a fine for making a false declaration. The minimum fine is ā¬135 which triples with late payment. A second infringement costs you ā¬1500. Four infringements gets you 6 months and an even more eyewatering fine. I expect you only get a slap on the wrist in UK.

Spot on Elmo but it is currently an in joke here in France. The word billy doo originated in WW2 when the Tommies called a love letter a Billy doo after the French expression "billet doux". During the current crisis we have to fill in a form called an "attestation de deplacement derogatoire". That is a bit of a mouthful even for a Frenchman so we use the expression "billet d'ou" - meaning a note explaining where you are coming from.. Now as far as my ears are concerned "billet doux" and "billet d'ou" are pronounced exactly the same. Hence, when we go out, we say "don't forget your billy doo. However if you want to send Mr. Johnson a love letter, be my guest. I won't be joining you.

I am disappointed to see that there is still no need for a "billy doo" to go out in UK.

I have just returned from my first shopping experience since the lockdown started in France. I thought you guys in UK might like to know what the rest of Europe is doing and what might be coming your way. First, on the drive to the nearest town I did not pass a single vehicle. It felt very post apocalypse. In town there was a police check. I was a bit nervous because I had a sheet of paper with 6 āattestation de deplacementā (signed declaration of reason for leaving house) printed on both sides of an A4 sheet and was not sure if this would be acceptable. The idea being to sign and date a fresh one and cross out the previously used one. The first thing I noticed was that the police were not wearing masks. I guess being stopped by a heavily armed man in a mask could be seen as a bit disconcerting. I wound down my window to give him my Attestation and Carte de Sejour but was instructed to wind up the window and hold my papers against the glass so he could approach and read them. To my relief, he waved me on with a smile. In the pharmacy there was a table blocking entrance to the main shop. When it was my turn I had to move forward from my marked position and put the prescription on the table and step back. The pharmacist then got my prescription and placed that on the table and stepped back so I could approach and pick it up. Another customer, who had to pay for a purchase was presented with the credit card machine in a plastic bag. At the butchers, there was a marked line away from the counter so you could not just point at what you wanted. Your purchase was then placed on a table away from the serving area. In the supermarket there were hardly any trollies left. I assumed the place must be heaving but inside there were fewer people than normal. They must have taken a lot of trollies out of service to stop too many people visiting at one time. I was able to buy everything I needed. There were one or two gaps but I suspect this was just a shelf refilling problem because there were fewer staff. At the till you had to wait at your marked spot until the previous customer had left. All staff were wearing masks and disposable gloves. It was a sobering experience but at the same time very reassuring that EVERYBODY is taking the situation seriously.

I hope no one is thinking of coming to France any time soon. We are in total lock down here.

I do not like putting the lead inside the bag. The reason is, when the bag hits the water, the momentum in the lead pushes it forward through the bait into the carefully arranged rig. This could cause a tangle. I prepare my bag in the usual way but when it is full I hold it by the top two corners and swing it round a few time forming (what I call) "ears". one is passed over the other to form the first half of a granny knot (that well known anglers stand bye). I then pass a small ring over one ear and complete the tying of the granny (or reef) knot. That ring is then clipped onto the swivel coming from the lead weight as is the terminal rig. On casting all the bag weight is taken by the ring through the ears of the bag.

Best quote from the video was "it is only cheating to those not thinking with an open mind" If it does not suit your water or your style of fishing don't use it. Simples If that guy gets paid for carp fishing good luck to him. I wish someone would pay me.

I read on this forum that mole hills are the bees knees when it comes to ground baiting. I have several hundred to spare if anyone would care to make an offer. (buyer collects )
