  1. Just started having a read through some of the posts on here very emotive stuff, it's not something I think I can form an opinion on instantly really other than time is limited for me and probably due to being in East Anglia there is a huge chance they have already got into most lakes in the area, so probably wisest to look at places that have been protected or are looking to be for now
  2. I guess otters are a thing that has changed since I was away as well and also something I have been sort of considering but without really knowing too much, I drove through earith and down the lakes the other week and had a chat to the guys who were putting it up at ashmire, but should you fish somewhere that hasn't got them now ? It's all a bit overwhelming I'm not gonna lie , I feel I have a lot of waters I would want to fish round here some haven't got it, could I be wasting my very limited bank time ?
  3. It's not really a gripe just an observation really something that has changed since I was away, I shall reserve judgement completely till I've been living it again. For a while, and have learnt the finer points
  4. Wotcha Definitely agree on carpcatcher I've spent ages just watching his vids, most of the lakes seem to be near me as well, I am fishing on one of them at the moment, just using a couple of three handfuls, seriously though it's nice to see a real carper and one who isn't afraid to share his story and ideas without the need to stuff products in your face every 10 seconds,
  5. I've spent a while looking at boilie guns and decided the Gardner ones are either not great (plastic) I did own one and it wasn't all that great tbh, or too pricey metal ones, so I've found a cheap caulking gun on eBay with steel tube and I am going to try this they look virtually the same as the others but at a fraction of the cost ? Anyone else done this ? Will let you know how I get on anyway once it arrives,
  6. It's 4.8kg Danny not mega light but lighter than quite a few possibly less sturdy ones for the above average man like myself
  7. This thread has got me thinking a little still a way off being a lightweight but I have just bought a sonik SK Tek compact chair as a review told me they are rated to 20st, and it folds up small enough to fit in with my net in the unhooking mat/sling so no extra hands required, I'm nearly mobile enough for day sessions as long as it doesn't rain, I haven't got any kind of brolly yet only a Nash titan viper but that's too heavy for a day session
  8. Bet there nice to play fish on though, I can't remember what my centuries are like for fish playing
  9. It can certainly get an expensive hobby, I always fancied a set of Bruce Ashby rods in the olden days, my old second hand century ak47s still work though even after a decades rest, so they can wait till I need more than 2 3/4lbtc,
  10. Thanks old school, still haven't got a sausage gun so will be manually ball making again this time, I'm going to try adding some stir fry oil to the mix this week 😬
  11. I have started listening to the Carp fishing podcast this week I think you guys may enjoy it if you haven't listened, in one of those they have a chat about what's changed in the scene, very Interesting listen Another couple of things I've noticed that are new FISH SPY I can't work out if I think it's a great idea or if it feels like cheating a bit ? I could definitely use one and learn from it I think, and at least you have to cast it, but for me it's like bait boat revisited ? I can see the pros and cons but ultimately it's a luxury fishing item I haven't really looked into the Sponsored lakes thing btw and don't know much about it , and I agree it is good they are putting something back to the sport, but is this more like how football has gone the Emirates rather than Highbury, king power , Etihad stadium My point being soon will we all be fishing at Nash lakes , or turbowanger lakes or korda or something similar rather than yately ,redmire , wraysbury that i grew up reading about
  12. My quality baits order arrived today, really happy with it I got 2 types of pellet and some nice basemix to try, I am hoping for a dawn raid Monday before work so will let you know how it rolls when I get a chance to make some over the weekend, I've also ordered lots of little bits off eBay and a new lightweight sonik chair, I think it's safe to say I am getting hooked again
  13. good luck with Gingerbread I've never fished it but driven over lots of times and used to read about some its inhabitants in the fishing section of the Biggleswade Chronicle, it was always gingerbread and willington that had the biggies in the olden days, I think I quite like the idea of north House now it seems to have all I want for the coming year I may even throw some bait in the south lagoon as well might be nice to see what lurks in there, shame I have to wait till half way through the year for a ticket though, :(
  14. Thanks for that Obsessed, I think I might have a try on there this year, ive always quite liked fishing close in so that style should suit me, hopefully I can get a few, I will probably stick to short sessions and days mainly due to family etc not sure if it is just coincidence but a lot of the gallery pics were taken in daylight, so I am thinking this may not hinder me too much, Are you quite local to there ? I am in Papworth, where are you fishing now if you don't mind me asking ?
  15. Just had a phone call from Simon of Quality Baits wow what a nice guy, he has put me right on a few bits I am now going to be starting off with the patshull park mix, and seeing where that will take me if you are thinking of making some bait this year it's well worth getting in touch with quality baits, I know I haven't used them yet but I got a really good vibe talking to them and now feel happy i am doing the right thing, and I will look forward to using there basemixes this year and seeing where that may lead
  16. Hi all I've decided to try Quality Baits Basemix out as they seem so cheap in comparison to Haiths and If i can gain confidence in them they will be a much more wallet friendly approach I've gone for 5kg of 50/50 spicy bird food and fish, to that I will add CLO and the rest of the additives/flavours i tried last time and see where that leads but there is a basic starting point there to tinker with, I also ordered 10kg of pellets as they seemed very reasonable too, should keep me going for a while My plan is to keep trying to winkle one out from the day ticket lake until may when I can join the club water and hopefully by then I will have a fully formed bait to start trickling in and the day ticket should help me remember how to catch fish and angle effectively again, My pb was a 27lb Common so naturally a 30 has to be a target for me , but will happily catch anything else along the way. I've missed the planning and plotting and hatching of ideas can you tell ?
  17. Hey Guys Hope you don't mind me digging up an old thread but I have been trying to think of a place I want to have a crack at this year, this one sprung to mind as its quite local to me, I used to fish the other lake a bit when I was a kid but this one looks quite appealing now, and there looks some nice old fish to angle for, how have you found it now you have been there a while ?
  18. Probably better than it bursting into flames while you sleep on it though.
  19. Wow just seen this, he was quite lucky to get out of it, will make me think twice and be a lot more careful in the future , I know it's not so common now but smoking in bed is very dangerous also, I had been out for a heavy weekend many moons ago and decided to have one last Fag, promply fell asleep and ruined my carpet rug and carpet when it fell out my hand still alight, luckily I woke up in time with the smoke causibg me to cough but that would've been worse in a bivvy it wasn't that pleasant in a house btw, Has anyone approached the companies with regard to making there items more flame retardant it seems mad in this day and age that chairs etc arent fire resistant
  20. Had a liner but Les looks set to make a reappearance today really got to pack up and go home in time for the school run, Shame I couldn't stay longer feels much more carp weather today
  21. Well I had some bait left so I thought I would pop back for a couple of hours fishing, just one other guy on the lake just watched him cast, he is using wraps and I have to say casting much more accurately than i, I have to say though I haven't even bought a marker rod with me again just chuck and hope for now, I think I need a proper session with some time to figure this place out a little better but I'll do what I can for now, casting practice won't hurt
  22. I am so glad you reminded of the hero in a half Shelly , I stupidly looked at one of his vids on YouTube it was a funny one talks a bit like Joe pascuale in it, you've probably seen it, Anyway now he keeps popping up on my you tube feed, so now I get him , 10 stupidist whatevers Cos I onced watch one of those , and lots of home decoration / plumbing, sealant removal vids in my feed
  23. As the evening draws to a close it's looking like Les Dawson has arrived with his cheque book and pen, I've thoroughly enjoyed my first day back though, s screaming take would've been nice but I've not fished here before so maybe n xt time
  24. I think my next try will be 6 eggs and with a gun cheers nick that was s good read, it's lovely just to be back on the bank it's windy but warm, was a bit limited for swims but I think I've done ok the wind is blowing into my corner nicely, should anything be heading this way chilli robins will hopefully attract them into feeding,
  25. Well there is certainly an odour in the kitchen this morning quite glad I am going fishing now it stinks
