  1. i must add this is a very nice venue. the fishing is good if you just want that bend in the rod. even though most fish out are around the 8-10lb mark they fight like 20's..it is very clean. food is available from the house i think. and that all important piece and quiet setting.this is becoming my fav short session venue just because of the setting.
  2. i have used the zig a few times.but only in the shallower parts of the lake and the margins. This can be a very effective rig. the venue i fish has band floater fishing during the warmer months?, so i use the zig. have caught a fair few on the zig. Infact i plan on using black foam instead of cut down boilie for bait next time out. you should defo stick with this rig and try iy in the margins or shallows on your venue.
  3. hello all. I've been using a braid hooklength lately but i'm having problems with tangling. not sure if its happening on the cast or retrieve.my set up is mainline through to hook length.no leader. i'm using a running rig with bead and quick change clip.i have been putting a small piece of tubing over the quick link to try and prevent a tangle but it isn't working. any help or advice would be most welcome.
  4. have visited this place for over a year now. fished it about 6 or 7 times. i spend alot of time just walking it and speaking to the lads on the bank. to be honest mate i dont think there is any decent size fish in there. the heaviest i know of came out this weekend at 17lb. before that it was a 15lb common. the fish are in great condition though.and as of september the match lake will be stocked with cats. I have caught on every session using boilies over hemp and corn. my only advice would be not to fish saturdays as it gets busy.
  5. i have had a few fish out but nothing big.2+ 8lbs last time i fished it. As for the bivvies you do get a lot there. I just think its strange that fish never show. And most people are catching small fish, not the bigun's they say were stocked.
  6. have been visiting this place for over a year now at least 3 times aweek. not fishing it that much but having a walk around, talking to people on the bank.the web site says it holds 700 fish some to over 30lb. now over the last year i must have spoken to 50+ anglers and the biggest out they know of is 14lb.i have seen nothing in the margins or on top. could this be a case of false advertising or just very clever fish?. your views would be most welcome.
  7. will give it ago, as i said i do like the way this rig works. Cheers for the advice mate much appreciated.
  8. this is rig i would like to try. Does the bore of the bead have to be bigger than the float stop?.
  9. i had read about this rig but it was set up using a leader. It does sound like it would be quite effective. I just wasnt sure about the bead to stop the lead. With the leader set up the book said use a bait needle to get the bead on to the leader which made me think it wouldnt drop the lead if you got a break off . I dont use leaders so have never used ther shocker rig.
  10. so i know the running rig is a fav, and quite safe but what about other rigs such as the shocker rig, can this be used without a leader, is it a safe rig to use at all.??.
  11. interesting bit of reading tryzard. I was blinded by the science . happier for it though
  12. dumping leads is a thing for thought. if a lake is fished by alot of anglers and just 5 of those anglers dumps a lead per week thats over 260 leads per year on the bed times that by years of lead dumping?. maybe somebody should be designing a lead that breaks down quickly
  13. when you put it like that , a quid a fish isnt bad at all.
  14. I like the idea of dumping the lead on the take, but that for me isnt practical both for cost reasons and also environmental reasons ie lake full of dumped leads. I didnt know it was possible to dump the lead on a running rig. Will look into those rings ,sounds like a very good idea.
  15. I like the idea of using pva to secure the lead on the cast. I have tried using lead clips with just the tail rubber lightly pushed on the clip but always loose the lead on long casts, i will deffo give it ago. .
  16. i use the striptease and IQ my self. i have a braid by berkely it says 12lb on the packet but when i tested it against 12 IQ the flouro snapped but i couldnt break the braid. is this common with braided hooklinks.?
  17. i use the same set up. mainline through to my hook link, no tubing or leader.my hooklinks are quite simple. flouro with knotless knot, have been trying afew more though ie kd, combi( your idea ) got some coated materials to play about with also.

    kd rig

right ive made up a couple of combi rigs as suggested by tonybranno. will try these out tomorrow and let you know the result, fingers crossed.cheers for the advice lads.
  19. what no takers then? Is this because your rigs are a closely guarded secret
  20. i have just finished reading the thread on aprils acf. quite an array of opinion. what i agreed with was tryzard's comment about rig safety in tems of set up. So does anybody have a rig they deem safe in terms of set up. this is not another leadcore bashing thread. i am interested to learn about people rigs and set ups as im quite new to carp fishing.

    kd rig

  22. binfield

    kd rig

combi link good idea. i will try this and see how it goes.
  23. binfield

    kd rig

i think its going off track abit. I understand how the rig works , i was just concerned about fish seeing the coated hookling and if flouro was an option for the hook link. I am having trouble with the coating matching the lake bed. The bed of the lake a quite a light sand kind of colour and i cant find anything to match apart from flouro......by the way how are the glugs going dave?.
  24. binfield

    kd rig

the reason i asked about flourocarbon was for concealment really. I tied a few up with a coated braid but when droped in the margins they stood out. cant seem to match the hooklink to the bed. The venue i fish is quite pressured so rig camo is the way to go i think..

    kd rig

can the kd be tied using flourocarbon or does it have to be a coated material.
