Over the last couple of weeks i have started to notice a trend with the modern carp angler more so the newer people to the sport. Big pit reels seem to be the in thing, High t/c rods of 3lb and above. Huge bivvies on day sessions, barrows full of kit that will never be used on a session. Why big pit reels?. I visited a friend today who was fishing a small lake about 3 acres in size with 2 large islands. the biggest cast was about 50 yards. 2 young lads fishing not far away both had huge bigpit reels why?. my friend was fishing with 3 1/4 t/c rods when i asked him why he said that they covered all situations?.
I would say the majority of people will never fish a large pit so don't need bigpits so why do they buy them. The same with the rods why are these people buying 3 lb and above t/c rods when the furthest cast they make is 70 yds.
The barrow full of gear that will never be used. Why are you taking so much tackle with you, the huge bivvy and bed for a day session?.
The way it is with carp anglers amazes me. If you had a bag full of rubbish and wrote carp on it you would sell millions.
For those just starting out you don't need big pits , you don't need 3 1/2 tc rods, you don't need that korda krusher, that new and improved line, that turbo alarm, all you need is to take a deep breath when you get to the tackle shop and think right what will i really use.
