  1. Theres a great sticky in this section on safe lead set ups and there is also a couple of good threads , both current and in the former hot topic sections too with pics of members' lead set ups , components and sometimes their reasons for using them. What with quite a few newish members getting involved recently as well i thought the subject worthy of a thread of its own , similar to bez's recent thread "which rig are you currently using " or something like that So , i'm inviting everyone to post pics of their current lead set ups . Lets see what you got boys .... I'll post mine this evening when small child is not clambering all over me :)
  2. Very nice Dal .To be fair to richard though ( and nick , nice bit of name dropping mate ) he used to be a regular poster on here at one time and always struck me as a straight up down to earth fella who did his best to help people out . Pretty much what we all try to do too . In fact it was quite a while before i actually caught on that he was THE richard gardner :) Wonder why he doesnt post any more ? Or moorsey for that matter ? Busy people i expect ....
  3. Exactly mate . Though i feel this may be a few years preceding it
  4. If your using yer fone , take pic with yer fone and download it either to your gallery and then to the thread .or , if using tapatalk its easy to take the pic and post it . If your on pc you'll have to go on a site such as photobucket and follow the instructions ....
  5. Dunno how its tied but its a sea fishing rig that has a built in chemical light , like the sort of thing that float fishermen use to night fish. The idea is that the fish cone to investigate the light and take the bait out of curiosity . Cant see it with carp though . More liable to spook em i would have thought .
  6. It well known that im not a great animal lover but im growing quite attached to this shower of reprobates :
  7. Sorry to hear that andy your not having the best of luck lately are you mate ?
  8. Cant say i've heard of deception but i'll be taking a look see mufty mate .... I love a hook thread i know this didnt start out as a which hook ? Thread as such but since its turning into one Im still not at a point yet where i've decided which hooks i prefer , i dont really fish enough to come to a conclusion yet but i have tested and am still testing various brands & patterns such as Gama 204's Muggas Kam 175's Fox arma's I even still try and find a valid use for some oldish fox series 4 longshanks . Truth is i havent really been let down by any of them either in required sharpness or strength in the battle. Except you know who's hooks of course . Got wise to them a long time ago
  9. To cover basics ? Running rigs , simple knotless knotted rigs , hook sizes to fit bait size , you know the drill things aint changed that much
  10. Doesnt matter how sharp they are if they open out is it ? Could be a dodgy vatch i spose . As with every brand . Even K
  11. From the album: Tim's favorites...

40th birthday cake that Tracey made for her friends party last saturday night
  12. Ok mate thanks . I hope someone comes on here later who uses 'em and gives a detailed reason for em I dont use tubing myself and nearly always use running rigs . Cant get much safer than that but im always up for learning something new . Welcome to the forum by the way matt
  13. I dont like the look of them myself , looks too much that can go wrong to me . Do you mind me asking why you need these ? If i wanted to fish with lead clips i'd just change rigs using a quick clip . Just curious
  14. Sorry mate , what with my bad eyes and your wifes big hands
  15. Theres a running rig / semi fixed thread in the past hot topics which is excellent . I still think weight of lead IS relevant in this thread
  16. Lets see how this develops , i know milky will be along with his sixpence worth . In the meantime im going to look few some old threads . I dont think your talking ballcocks smiffy , but i definitley dont believe that that hook is set straight away . Lets see
  17. Surely the idea of running lead set ups is that the fish feel NO resistance on the pick up and swim off with their mouthful . Meaning you have to set the hook yourself by "striking" or "lifting" into the take . If you wanted the fish to hook itself then get the lead clips out My take on sharpys original question is , seeing as you have to set the hook yourself , you want your bite indication to be as "spot on" as possible . And the SOONER you set the hook , the better the hook hold is liable to be ? Therefore i think the lead DOES make a difference to hookholds and because you dont want the lead moving as the fish takes the bait it makes sense to use the HEAVIEST lead you can get away with . Tin hat on ...
  18. I find a lead of 2.5 oz or heavier is better . Cant explain the physics behind it but Nick did explain to me once , something about a tunnel ???? Sharpy , how do you go about slackening your line off , i find it majes a big difference ? I tend to cast , tighten down to the lead and then slacken off a foot or so at a time whilst holding the rod pointing upwards . Takes about 30 to 40 minutes but its worth it and improves indication no end ...
  19. Actually i think they were both very good posts therefore i have left thins be but "liked" em both . Good debate .
  20. It would depend on the lake i spose . How busy , how many carp , what stamp of carp etc . I would hazard a guess that youd be sacrificing fresh new highly attractive fish-pulling bait in order to put out a load of washed outs that the fish may or may not happen across during the length of your session .
