Just experimenting with rig strength. Its also quicker than tying a combi knot. The rig ring on the shank stops the soft braid getting caught where the hook eye is formed.

Contrary to popular belief- a crimp is no stronger than a good knot- in some cases the crimp is in fact weaker as it either bruises the line from being over tight- or lets the rig material slip from to little crimping pressure (coated braids can actually slip from under their own coating as well this way). To me, the only advantage of using a crimp is to save rig material as there is no waste from tag ends from knots etc, you can cut the exact amount off the spool you need

well you need to compare the thickness of your chosen hook to the hook that they guide you buy, for example you may find that they suggest using the 1.2mm (small) version with size 10 E-S-P raptor hooks. Compare the thickness of those hooks with your hooks and bobs your uncle I would imagine that the hooks you mentioned are thinner than the E-S-P so the 1.2mm would be fine. However i find that the 1.6mm more useful as i can use it on my smallest hooks and largest without it being unsightly or fiddly. If you're going to buy over the Net so you cant compare- i would go for the 1.6mm

Could strip the coating off stiff silt- tbh its basicaly useless coated anyway

In my opinion you would be better of with smaller/lighter hooks than those mentioned. A simple £1 pack of size 12/10 Drennans will do the trick The hooks mentioned do all work granted- used them my self- but i found i caught more with the Drennans, they are also alot cheaper For the price of one pack of 10 Armapoints, you can get 4 packs of Drennans in 4 different variations- barbed- different sizes etc, you will drop onto the winning formulae

Ive tried that but its not good enough in my opinion for playing a carp on, It will fully tighten during the fight and is prone to strangling itself that way like all other hooklinks that are poorly tied. Im just using it to create booms between the lead and running link (hen fishing in silt/weed) as there doesnt need to be as much strength there and its anti tangle as its so stiff. Even if it snaps its only doing me a favour All the same, very annoying, i cant use it for my hooklinks

E-S-P all the way lad I only ever use them when i actually want to loose the lead, the Korda clips tend to only shake the lead off during the fight or not at all (no matter how far you push the rubber on) - thats not always how i want them to work Fox ones aren't bad but they are a tad bulky

Jez, have you seen the nash ones with the large steel eyes? I realy rate them, especially for use on my Zigs. They aren't as safety conscious as the enterprise ones that you talk of, but the lead is only held by a small plastic peg, you can swap leads in seconds without having to break the rig down. I think they are marketed as running rigs for braid line :/ I'm not sure.

(super stiff version): knotting but trouble! I can not get this to knot down tightly without the coating parting. I have tried all the different knots i use and trust in all my other coated braids (All 5 suffix- fox-korda variants of them lol). These knots are the figure of 8, and grinner knots. I have tried over tightening the tag ends, under-tightening the tag ends, equal tension on the tag and hook length at the same time, i have now tried steaming also (which i like to avoid if possible) and even that will not do it (BTW i always lubricate my knots so its not that) I just simply cant get on with the stuff. I only ever use a figure of eight if i can as i fish the pva stick method 99% of the time, but the coating kept parting so i tried using a grinner to a link loop, (i thought id found a use for the useless waste of money that they were lol) but this didn't work. The only option left that i can think of is crimping and i refuse to crimp my hook links- what do i do??? Any Ideas?? (btw i dont rate the rapala knot but I've even given that ago) Thanks, Jack

Drennan double strength isnt bad tbf, fox have launched a line not dissimilar to what ive been using the last few years, 10lb and 0.22 dia £4 100m isnt too bad in all honesty- i haven't tried it though myself, but i saw it and thought it didn't look too bad, best "dedicated" carp line ive seen for the job in all honesty. The Korda Krusier control, now thats a joke of a surface/zig line- two words "tow rope" Its over 0.3mm thick

Exactly Tying knots properly is basic carp fishing 1 0 1, if you cant join two lengths of material together propperly- you shouldnt be fishing LOL

Unfortunately this rig is on Korda's page now,,, So every Tom, Dick and Harry will be using it, making everyone who uses it properly and ,have done for some time, look like tarts.

4 turn grinner to a self spliced loop does the trick extremely well in my eyes, no big bulky knots or gluing required- hassle free and as safe as leadcore gets

Try a different brand of hooks, i have lost more carp on korda hooks than any other brand!? Fox armor points on the other hand... May not make any difference to you at all but could be worth a try???

i think your biggest problem would be the bead and hooklink sliding back towards you on the cast tbh mate put some pva foam behind the top bead on the cast its perfectly safe- safer than a leader

i might try some of the G-line nice diameter Its a vary nice line, very supple has a slight blue/green tint but no where near as coloured as drennan double strength. There is ,however, only one shop that i use (out of 5) that stocks it so you may need to go hunting

Clarke G-line (used to be Silstar) 7.9lb (0.20) or 10.lb (0.22) Berkley trilene- 4lb (0.23 but breaks just over 8lb with good knots (self tested) so its stronger than the 8 and 10lb silstar which can halve in bs on certain knots and looses round 30-40% of its bs on average) I find that the Drennan double strength is too thick for its breaking strain with poor knot strength but then again with every aspect of fishing its what you get used to and what you have confidence in
