The ESP ones are actually translucent mate- ( translucent brown and the transluescent green) I haven't mate either, i need to get some more Fox do some 5mm dark green ones, and i think the old(er) ESP ones aren't translucent either??? If you can find some from somewhere

The smaller of the two is a Korda rubber bead, the slightly larger is an ESP one mate

This is something that i have been thinking about for a while, i am starting to go against the use of lead core and so i have started looking for examples or pros and cons of its uses on some other sites to determine the safest way possible of using leadcore. Browsing through Google i came across this fella Mark and his fishing blog I was reading through his blog on leadcore leaders: http://anglersdiary.blogspot.com/2008/08/carp-rigs-leadcore-leaders.html I agreed with some of his theories, and his basics were spot on This i fully understand whoever, he goes on to say that the CV Safety rig is the only safe way to use leadcore I cant get my head around this... I was looking at the pictures of the CV rig he has posted and i looked at it that the beads and swivel could actually be trapped on the leadcore easier than many other rigs, i was thinking about it for a while and i couldn't see it being any safer than a normal helicopter rig??? Its not that i have never seen or heard of the cv safety rig befor its just that i have never really seen the need for such a thing in my fishing and it is only now that i am starting to think about the leadcore from a safety aspect that i have looked at it in depth. My problem is that i cannot see how this is the safest rig for use with lead core???? I decided to tie one up and have a play around with it- to provoke thought. (the rig) (how the rig components fall away) Yes it does appear to be a safe rig but if the leadcore kinks or some sort of debris collects on the lead core (which it obviously can and does) it instantly becomes a death rig. The normal helicopter rig has the same problems but if you compare them in an open, clean water scenario, the helicopter rig (being less complicated) seems to loose the hooklink much quicker and easier. The only benefit that i can see with the CV compared to the Helicopter is that on the helicopter rig people may be inclined to "fix" the top bead in place to stop the hooklink sliding up and down where as the CV rig doesn't need a bead to be "fixed2 (well semi-fixed but you know what i mean). Im guessing that you will also get more chance of a tangled hooklink with the CV compared to the Helicopter rig as the hook link cant spin? So what i'm asking is, what are your views on the safety of this rig? Whether or not you think that this rig should be pushed as the "only" safe way to use leadcore? and generally just your thoughts on the matter? Thank you for taking the time to read this, Jack. btw I'm not trying to start the leadcore good vs bad thread (like the leader or not thread)

Yeh i know what you mean Bri, He took the swivel off the top of the rig while we we talking to him but i don't think he quite understood why he needed to??? The bailiff was content tho but if he sees him doing it again he will probably do more about it, if i see him again and hes still using "death rigs" ill try and have another chat with him and see how it goes, If I'm not happy with it ill call Dean (the bailiff) and tell him hes back again using the same rigs again and hell come down and have another chat He is one of the more tolerant bailiffs on the society tbf
-
Its surprising how common that is- a swivel above the lead, Ive seen 4 new members at our syndicate in the last 5-6 months using nion the same rigs me and a bailiff (a mate) spend an hour explaining the concept of dead fish rigs to one particular chap who we saw using a similar rig and tbh i still don't think he understood, probably just thort we were being nosy and that we knew best This chap had some expensive tackle too (Eos rs, diawa bigpits etc) Do any of you remember the picture of that helicopter rig from the screaming delkims site??? it was horrendous, not a dead fish rig as such but there was that much that could go wrong with it to make it a dead fish rig, it was truly unbelievable - must have had 20 different beads on it.

THere is also a decent ghostie in the car park pool, ive seen a few pics of a 20+ mirror which is why i wanted to fish it in the first place but you also get torags from chezzo and ashma ect sessioning on there (as in they gather and get blotto and mess about ). One of the bailiffs told me there was a 40+ pike, yeh right

well ok then I know what your going through with that one mate , all too well I get a bit "trigger" happy when i am free lining, im not sure whether i do it more on the top than i do on the bottom but i do catch more free lined on the top. When im fishing free line on the bottom, i tend to strike to early- im not sure if its reaction and excitement or wether its just bad luck or even if its a carp bite at all?. I am always weary of deep hooking a fish as well It seems a bit more simple when you you can see that the bait is definitely in the carps mouth but even then i strike to early alot of the time

No mate, Daleeder on here has, send him a pm, not sure if hes on here much anymore tho

I did one and sent you the link on the other thread we were on, doesnt matter tho Its a nice mirror mate, massive tail The most fun ive had free lining has got to have been last summer, i went (with a few friends who arnt realy carpers, more silver fish anglers but they fancied ago at the carp,) to a fishery that they normally fish- (Its called millride and is in Essington but its not a particularly nice or good fishery for anything but still) Any way, it was a bright morning and i was the first to arrive, i was sent a text saying that they were going to be late and instructions as to which lake they wanted to fish on the complex. It was a nice looking pool- full of lilly beds and had an island in teh middle (well it was like a sticky out bank that had been cut off from the pool which sort of divided the pool into 2 bays) I baited up 2 rods and cast out to teh island and one to a lilly bed, id got a small carp (6-7lb) on from the island rod just as my mates arrived and so i landed it and then we sat and chatted for about half an hour. It was 10:30 by ths time and the heat from the sun was getting stronger. (it was a T-shirt off day lol) As we were chatting and i was scanning the lake with my Polaroids i notice carp sitting just under the surface scatted all over the pool (nothing big unfortunately- a few decent doubles would probably have been the biggest in there?) I brought my other rod in so now i hadnt got a baited rod in the water and started to flick some of the good old dog biscuits in, some tight to the lilly beds and some in open water (couldnt reach the island but got pretty near). After 10-15 mins of them being out, the lilly beds closest to me erupted with movement Instead of tackling up my controller float gear, i just used good 10lb line straight through to my size 10 ssc and baneded a dog biscuit on, i drop the line across the top of a lily with the bait just over hanging the lilly pad- I had 5 from the lillys in 2 and a half hours all free lined in this way, it was so much fun even tho the biggest was about 9lb at a push as they were like little rockets right under the tip of the rod dashing for the safety of the lillys, one nearly done me in teh lillys but ichange the angle of "attack" and the carp shot off away from the lillys It was teh most fun Id had in ages

The Black Fords progressive angling society waters mainly, 4 decent pools to fish including 2 resevoirs all on one syndicate They are based around Caltheath/Gaily, The turf on the A5, and 2 Lakes near the cannock/bridgetown Sainsburys.

Wheres my thread gone??? But ok then Personally, i think the carp may have been trying to see how the bait would react to the current created by his tail fin and then by sucking at it- to determine if the food was safe/ not containing a hook??? rather than just trying to remove the bread??? Nick may have a few good ideas on this one??? actually i could list a fair few people on here who could suggest alot more about it???
-
Is it the ones opposite the Larch mere estate??? IF so... The Bailiffs on there are complete Numptys and there is far too many teenage idiots hanging around doing things they shouldn't be unfortunately its only a few minuets walk from me and there are some nice fish in there, but fishing it isnt enjoyable, i was planning on fishing it a while back- theres a thread on it somewhere with good advice off some very talented people of how to fish it

I don't trust The blood knot, Forgot to mention the Palomar, i use the grinner more tho but they are easily the better knot choices for swivels and looped leaders etc to me the Palomar seems to be stronger than a grinner in bristle filament but the grinner to me seems alot more reliable in mono. In Braid and coated braid they seem to be as good as each other -

Knot less knot hair rig, Grinner Knot, Figure of eight knot These will form the basics of your fishing and subsequent set-ups Have a browse Through the Rig tying stickies as there will be explanations and diagrams of them there Tight Lines mate. -
You'd perhaps be better off using stills and narrating it as video image quality makes things difficult to understand

I think that this lead set up is over used, most probably due to the angling media and a certain "pro". IMO The set up is overly bulky and there for more visible/obtrusive and the set up isnt actually a brilliant fish hooker. Yes the setup does have its merits, at times it has been a life saver literally and has out fished other setups at times but i dont think that it is the quick fix to all fishing and i dont think that it is the safest rig in every situation, It also dumps too many leads on the cast esp if ur using pva (handy at times) but gets annoying if your having a good day. You find a lot of new carpers using the this rig, but is that due to its hype??? It is nice to no that fish safety is at the front of peoples minds however. Is it the best set up for a beginner??? what do you view as the best beginner set up. Id like to know what other peoples views of this lead setup are. Sorry if this debate already exists. Regards Jack

How about just a latched baiting needle works for me I like the korda heavy duty one, comes in handy for alsorts of riggy bits aswell as harder baits
-
Are you after a replacment flourocarbon or any stiff link material???? I like Fox rigidity stiff rig as its so cheap and i only ever tie loop knots with it realy so i dont have any quarms with knot strength and breakingstrain.
-
ESP lead core all the (if im using lead core) way, quite happy to buy the pre-spliced ones as a stop gap if needed but i prefer splicing my own, even though i got through loads of splicing needles and still break the occasional one now lol

Nice tip to help reduce carbon emissions I saw Matt Hayes give this tip on a fishing program before. I do this to my mainline to straighten it out if its coiling. I cant get this to work with my mainline its not badly coiling but i wanted to use some for a hooklink a while ago but it was curly and i couldnt get it to go straigt
-
are you bruising the line when you pull it tight??? or is it just the hooklink its-self is curved??????
-
You are only throwing your money away anyway. What ever happened to a simple figure of eight on the end of your hooklink and a quick link? You dont need link loops..... FACT!!!!! I found figure of eight loops stronger anyway, it seems to put less pressure on the knot itself as the braid/mono isnt turning and twisting the knot around the link loop as theres no link loop there ( if you know what i mean, i couldnt work out how to say what i mean ) and its easier to pass the rig through pva bags when fishing the pva stick method.
-
Don't you salvage the link loops/ rig rings of the rigs when your done with the rig seems like your throwing your money away I seem to have lost all of my quick links haven't got a clue how tho, out of 20 or so I've got 2 left (they are rather battered to boot lol), i cant recall using them all, a trip 2 the tackle shop is in need
