  1. Hi Mantion, Thanks for nice reply 👍 Have to say I am not a 'split cane and centre pin' angler, tbh not my cup of tea, however do use a pin and float rod for crucian fishing. Sadly I suspect most new carp anglers now are followers on social media, in my day only media was Carp Talk once a week and Carpworld every month, then Big Carp mag joined in. Obviously times move on, still remember when carp anglers were actually a minority on most waters I fished! How is this going to effect mouth damage? As I say, 3.5lb TC rods, big pit reels on small lakes I am afraid will never change now, when you hear about some youngster saying his first fish was a 20, so sad they never got chance to start out with respect for fish by catching small stuff and learning how to play fish on light tackle and have the experience of it. Anyway, tight lines to all
  2. Just to poke my nose in.... I have been fishing for over 50 years, brought up by fishing on river mole and Thames for catching Dace, Chub, gudgeon and also bleak bashing! Very light tackle in those days, learnt how to play fish in, barbless hooks, used to be used for match fishing to improve hooking for dace. Anyway, move on... times have 'sadly' changed, pot noodle carpers seem to think fishing day ticket waters with as stated before 3.5 test curve rods, 15lb line and hauling some poor double in.... Without dought I think this causes soo much damage. I now longer fish day ticket waters, however I unforturnatly expect to see the same on my club lake soon. As for hooks, barbless really dont do more damage, only hook I remember was the Rob Maylin bent hook which was an absolute no no!
  3. Hi guys, As per topic, it seems like no big maize seems to be available anymore, had some stuff delivered from net but once again it is sooo small, great for loose feed but no way can put it on hair rig Any suggestions if there are any reputable suppliers, tbh I don't trust the net pics anymore....
  4. lol, that's why I got the 'posh' brass nuts lol Served my well on Horseshoe Lake.... oh the memories Bitech viper alarms were the pits! As fo new ATTs alarms.... err would you perhaps comprimise the bullet prof appeal by adding a speaker?
  5. Salokchimnodrog, Blimey, someoneone old enough to remember Optonics! I moded mine to have new vanes and 'carp ears' and a brass fixing nut, all linked up by cables, yes cables, to a Bitec sounder box in a Rod Hutchie bivvie dome! As said before, I still love the Atts alarms, not sure why people go for so called hi tech stuff, although I read Atts are bringing out one with a speaker now apparently! In my over 40 years of carp fishing, most takes are either run off screamers or drop backs.... As for zigs, only relevant for years ago, but high rod tips and very tight lines to the lead worked well for me
  6. I also have the ATTs alarms, have done for many years and love the simplicity of them 👍 Mine have been on 4 magnets and tbh not sure it makes a lot of difference if you were to swap to the 6 magnets? As for zigs, not much experience in recent times, do remember on Horseshoe Lake (Carp Society) years ago when zigs meant using a floating bait on surface, cork balls, and using optonic alarms most takes would be fairly violent or drop backs, wouldn't worry to much about the changing to 6 rollers mate
  7. Thanks for reply Roughtor, Lot's of memories about old days in Kernow, pre internet and finding places in an old book called Carp fishing in UK. Sorry to have gone off post on this thread, but sadly think have to live with otters now, gate has been opened years ago... bit like foxes in chicken farms years ago. Anyway Roughtor. maybe old blokes like us could share memories on the 'Vintage People' thread, might be worth a try? S
  8. Hello mate. sorry you don't have a name on here, Thanks for the background info on Boscastle, I have visited it a few times, like to get to Kernow at least twice a year. Remember very many years ago going to Bolingey lake.... before White Acres took it over. think Jerry savage used to own it? caught lots of easy carp on tinned black eyed beads on float Anyway, as for a lot more interesting fishing apart from water pigs, do you know anything about river Neet or Strat?
  9. Maybe a lot more challenging than the Mere for the Black Mirror? Not sure a shotgun and pack dogs (apparently) would be worth the risk lol
  10. Shame you never finished with a carp mate. Yes the Jungle was great for tench 👍 It is a lovely place and can understand why it is now closed to fishing, let it rest in peace and others can enjoy the peace of such a lovely setting, except for the big trucks who used to run along the path to the works at back of the lakes
  11. Like him or not. the late John Wilson was warning about the dangers of otters so many years ago: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-24331800 On other forums people claim to have knowledge about people illegally releasing otters, nothing has been done. Have to live with it now. Hopefully the places you fish will carry on 👍
  12. Nobody died but village was decimated for a while , I actually have been there and seeing the flood water levels marked out was an eye opener mate
  13. There was an episode of the Windsors, where Charlie boy had done rewilding and had to reintroduce bigger preditors to solve the problem! Yes a great comedy series but maybe an element of truth in it 😃
  14. Any facts about that mate?!! Suspect a lot of peoples housing now flooding because of... new builds on flood plains, to much overbuilding over natural drainage... concrete drives, artifical grass etc etc. Bring on the beavers, might have stopped the flood disasters in some where like Boscastle if they could have stopped the dredged out river to cause so many lost lives? Oh and poor farmers will no doubt be bleating on later... what about the toxic waste they (some of them) allow to pollute our rivers... Tin hat on but just a cynical old git lol
  15. Framey, I could well have been, Tench and Bream fishing on float or feeder used to be great many, many years ago on the 'Dove; front bank when the lillie pads were there. Remember hiring a punt and a certain Mr Rowles told me and mate to clean of the anchour before we left it lol. The pads were ripped out on main lake when water pigs became the going thing, to be honest, I never caught a carp from the main lake, did see lots basking around the old shop. Another memory to look back on, and hopefully the owner enjoys his peace at the lake
  16. At least the new craze for releasing Beavers, that obviously won't eat fish can't provoke any reactions can it??
  17. How did you get finish the last session?
  18. I have fished Bury Hill on and off since the 80's. Originally it was only the main lake, the baliff was a certain Mr Rowles, what a character he was! Then the place was one of the only ones in the south to introduce 'any method' trout fishing to get around the long gone close season on lakes. Not surprised it is closing, the owner I believe built a house by the main lake where the shop and cafe used to be, and now wants his privacy I am guessing. Milton lake was always my favorite, used to be fantastic for crucians and tench on the pole, then as ever I think it was netted and was never the same again. Not my thing at all but the main lake used to be a premier water for zander fishing, wonder what happened to them?
  19. Yes, far to dodgy now, and for a bloke of my age! Remember many years ago I saw some pics of some very big carp in the main lake taken by an 'Urban explorer', if they are still there who knows?
  20. No probs mate, If anyone has some spare time, do a quick google on the place...... very interesting to say the least 👍
  21. Hopefully not intruding on this thread, I was one of the original Carp Society members who helped them buy Horseshoe lake, spent 3 seasons there and long since sold up. Different times and so much more chilled, times have so much changed, sign of old age I guess lol
  22. 190 + views and no comments, guess to secret or no one has heard of it 😀
  23. As most of you are probably aware, sooo many expensive ones on the market. Have seen on other places of the catch reports, lovely fish can't argue with that. But for 'assuming' most anglers are they worth it? Have to say Terry Hearn and many others reliied on location and obviously time for catches
  24. As per topic, So much stuff a few years ago about otters, gone very quiet now, guessing it's not a big thing anymore??
  25. Probably sure not anyone on here will have heard of the place, think Chris Yates guested there many years ago for carp? Last time I looked at the place it is now mega locked up, wonder if some unknown 'monsters' are still in there?
