  1. So the nice weather is approaching and the start of spring on our shoulders 12 -13 degrees this weekend in ulverston Cumbria and with the new bivvy and Pva bag refill arriving I’m surely getting on the canal or Sandhall pond this week  who else is getting on the bank ? Hopefully some of us get bites and not blanked  7 carp and 1 tench some lads got on Saturday on the canal so there about 😉

  2. If so then the fish always go there in the summer to get the best of the heat from the son as  I know that but there is a absolute son trap don’t think there not been a day in summer where I’ve gone to the dock and seen them. Is the fishery still open a family members friend used to own back a few years and I know there was big carps in there too but never heard of it being reopened

    Hey guys.

I live in a place where we have what we call the dock. Its a mix of freshwater and salt. It used to hold trout but they didnt survive well in the water, or at least they all were caught and ate.

Anyways this water has a outflow into what was an old fishery, small little water that connects to the docks and it also connects to a "beck"

This beck is around 2 foot in depth.

Amazingly we used to get carp coming out of the fishery into this beck, 20 years ago i went down there once and this beck had aload of carp in there. The beck was that shallow you could see them. The flow goes under bridges. And very shallow water.

My maye was on his bike yesterday when he got to the part where the "beck" joins the old fishery and to his suprise there was 20 carp or so all swimming in this shallow beck.

Does anyone have any theory as to why they are moving up this stream?

Here are some pics you can clearly see the fish in there

Whats the reason behind them moving into this shallow water? Im gonna check out a part of the stream lower down where it doesnt have a no fishing sign today. Some big carp in that "dock"

Could they be spawning? Or anything else that makes them come into this really shallow water ?

    Hi Jordan.

is it just a transport problem or a genuine loneliness/confidence thing where you have problems fishing on your own ?

if it’s the former then I’m going to recommend doing something that I should have done many years ago and never did . Learn to drive .

I know it’s easier said than done . With me it was a confidence thing and one of the biggest regrets of my life was that I never learnt to drive and I hated and still do hate having to rely on my Mrs ( who does drive) to take me anywhere.

it’s all very well jumping on public transport with all your gear when you’re a kid but when your 60 like me it’s a no-no.

I take it your partner does drive ?

just do some major sucking up prior to getting her to drop you off 🤣

If it just that you don’t like fishing on your own , it’s a bit daunting the first time you do it , especially Carping , but you’ll soon gain confidence in your abilities and it’ll be a breeze .

I absolutely love my alone time and fishing is a fantastic time to reflect on stuff and if I ever get the feeling that I want a bit of company I’ll just listen to my DAB radio . Quietly of course , especially if I’m missing the mighty Hammers 😂.

    Good luck son .

Hey it’s both to be honest I have bad anxiety and ptsd so I tend to like to have someone with me so I don’t get bored etc the mrs don’t drive either and to be honest I don’t think any of us will be anytime soon

  5. Hey there guys so I’m new to using Pva mesh so I’ve been using my mind into making some bait mixes for Pva sticks and came up with one where I use blended bread then some krill  pellets  with manvilla active powder and ground up krill active boilies and then all put in a tub when mixed and soaked in white almond Korda goo I’m wondering if anyones ever done this mix and had good results or if they can suggest better ones

making friends is easy you just need to be nice and non confrontational, a people pleaser get it right and you will have a lift in no time. you sound young so don't be to put off if you struggle to get on a syndi, Chris who runs a few waters in the midlands will give young lads a start on his waters, in fact he prefers them as they are more up to date with modern angling etiquette, gutted i lost my ticket there, think i might of already mentioned that though. 🙈

Feel for you guys up north one of the reasons i could never live in bonnie scotland well that and the SNP Warwick is nearly as bad for carp angling unless you like match fishing style, you all need to get some sort of traveling syndicate on the go, all chip in for a cheap van or a rental once a month get yourselves down south.

Not easy getting that first car these days it's all about milking you guys as usual, 40 min driving test for me no extra sillness needed, driving is a right for all it's not a privilege.

Ye there’s a syndicate water like 30-60 mins drive away but like I say I just don’t have the friends to go away and fish with etc

  9.  Is anyone from round the Lake District south lakes Cumbria could do with a fishing buddy for when the mrs don’t want to come 😂  literally don’t have mates as none of them bother with me or fishing so I don’t see the time in asking them

I can laugh now, but got my car stuck in the mud as I came off the hardcore path.

The lake owner told me to get my gear round to the swim and she would arrange a tow out in the morning. Bit of a telling off, but she is a lovely lady so know I deserve it.

Two barrow journeys later, 1 Spomb that unclipped itself putting a bit of pigeon conditioner and Vitalin in after 3 casts, I'm now sat in the bivvy after dinner with a coffee.

I’m getting back out on the bank now like. Bout better to do
