To be honest ( if it was me) I'd put a bit of foam rubber in the butt eye and leave the bale open... slackening off the clutch so it spins on a take will impart twist into the line... looks ace though...👍

At the mo I still have my Black Alloy Interlokk stix and bars... I think I'll keep them for 3 rod sessions and my cane for single or two rod outings... Interlokk gear is superb... I mean really superb, had mine many years now and its still as good as new

A chap I know is in the process of trying to build a pair of cane buzz bars... so I can go full on retro... also got some bamboo bobbins in the offing too... pics when ( if) they arrive..👍🎣

Rod is doing a Martinez and Bird Avon as I type... the Sharpe with the Speedia was rebuilt by Walter Sewell, I think he retired a while back he did a few of mine... a couple of named rods plus a few un named repurpose jobs... a fine builder... Rod had rebuilt quite a few projects for me... including several cane Roach poles... I'll be fishing with him in Feb and taking delivery of 3 rods and a pole at the same time. A lovely bloke....👍

The later Mitchell's had a strip of red chenille around the base of the spool to stop this happening... it wears away with age, you could probably replicate it with some fly tying chenille glued in place

Well... last week I had the unenviable task of clearing my late buddy's tackle room for his widow... now my house is full of his gear... the overriding message I took from the experience, was not to spend too much time accumulating material things.... if you go earlier than your wife, lover, partner, whatever... they'll need to deal with it all and they'll never realise the cost of those things... With this in mind, once I have cleared his gear, I shall be having a good clear out of gear... cutting back to bare minimums, I don't want my lass to go through that which my mates widow has endured... Tight lines

Yes tried that... think mines jammed, the reel still works as it should though, so I'm not too fussed
