New ATTs alarms with speaker?
salokcinnodrog replied to OldBoy's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
I do use my alarms without the receiver every now and again on day only sessions, so for them to be audible is important to me. At night though I wouldn't be without the receiver next to my head on the storm pole -
Have to agree elmoputney, Still makes me laugh when alarms have soo many features. imh totally not needed, a take is either a drop back or a run, never needed anything else.. what do I know tho, used to used Optonics hard wired to a BiTech viper alarm box lol

New ATTs alarms with speaker?

If I felt I was missing out having a speaker I might, but tbh I've got used to the receiver now and love just having that nearby at all times. - Today

Thanks, might cost me money.... but a classic phrase.... why replace something that isn't broken 😀 Also the speaker might comprimise how waterproof the original ones are?

New ATTs alarms with speaker?

I saw them at the Essex carp show, they are sweet, come with snag backs as standard. They don't seem to be released yet though. -

You're mistaken Nick. The laws of physics prevent this. There is no mechanism that makes it physically possible. I was the Manager of every lab and quality function in Europe for one of the worlds biggest metal-forming and heat-treating organisations in the world for 17 years. So I know this. Modulus of elasticity of steel is a constant. It is slightly different for different grades of steel but all in the same range. It is a physical property of steel that can only be altered by heat treatments: - Under-treated steel has a lower yield point so the hook will be subject to plastic deformation more readily, making it impossible for a hook to regain shape after straightening. Over-treated steel will lead to embrittlement which means tensile strength will be exceeded more readily (which means a snapped hook). Again, impossible. There is no characteristic in steel that can feasibly vary from batch to batch that can result in the phenomenon you think you saw. Perfectly feasible and I expect most seasoned anglers will have seen this at some point. But a hook straightening out and springing back into shape is not possible.

Hi Guys, As a long term user of ATTs, I remember reading a while they were going to bring out an ATTs alarm with a speaker, maybe to replace the other alarm they used to do? Not seen anything more about this, not on website, maybe a step to far for an alarm I have had over 10 years and is bomb proof. Does anyone else have more info?

Yes I'm well impressed mate, I'd have a set for fishing - deffo good enough, look great too 😎 You could buy a set of 4 of these for less than one Basia! The new Basia I've got look very similar and both reels have the new cross wrap technology, it's almost like they are supposed to go together as a set 👍 -
I'll take it 🙃😎👍

I nearly bought a set of these to use as fishing reels for my distance rods. I ended up going for the Emblem Pro, which is basically the old Emblem Spod (predecessor to the 35 SCW QD) but grey instead of black. Absolutely love them and I'm sure the 35's are equally as good. -

I ordered some stuff from them earlier this year, Creamy Nut Method mix, as a base for 'extras' I add in. Also some of their Tiger nut liquid and CSL and some Cream flavour. First class service and actually caught on the first two times on the bank! As others have said, I would give them them a try 👍

Sorry it's Fatboy isn't it not wideboy so it's a (Mk2 Fatboy Version 1) - final answer! What do I win? 😎
-
@yonny I did have a problem with a particular brand of hooks (model no longer available) that were opening out enough under pressure to straighten and spring back into shape. Maybe it was a particular batch of the Series 2 being faulty, but I did lose a couple of fish before I tested and changed from them, and have not used the brand since. I have also had a few from other manufacturers that did just snap after snagging, at the point of the bend, or straighten out.
-
Sorry mate but quoting you to point out you got this wrong - see my post above and yes you need the smaller side bags and you might find one of the old under bags second hand maybe 👍 I think the Mk2 thing started with thinker bars on the barrow itself, there's a MK2 Wideboy Version 1 and 2 from a particular date. With my recent barrow troubles I had to find this out 👍 I've got some mint front panier bags unused if you want to buy 👍🤣
-
IMO that IS a MK2 Wideboy, I've got one. I found out there are 2 versions with the later version accepting the drop in bag 👍 They came with velcro on - under barrow bags - which I've still got in the garage, still got the barrow as a spare

I'm now happy to recommend this reel (Daiwa Spod) - spotted currently at £115 as I've been using as the main casting reel - spot finding and baiting for maybe a year or more now. Compact, lightweight, smooth and reliable - a bargain IMO. Bought the same thing, same price range (150 - 200) from Shimano and it ceases up overnight if there's any moisture about let alone rain. That's not accurate. Hooks are made from high carbon steels and heat treated (sometimes referred to as spring steels). While it's true that a finer gauge wire or hook is more prone to straightening (obviously), elasticity (or Youngs Modulus of elasticity to be precise) is a physical characteristic of steel - there is no 'may' about it. A hook is essentially a spring - it is critical that it can flex during the fight (this is known as elastic deformation), otherwise it would just snap because it would be too brittle to deal with the loads applied to the steel. However, it's not possible for the hook to flex to the point of straightening without the yield strength of the steel being exceeded. The yield strength is the point at which the steel deforms under load permanently (this is known as plastic deformation). So yes, a hook flexes (to a point) but no, a hook cannot straighten and then spring back into shape. The physical properties of spring steel do not allow it. If a hook straightens, you know about it.
-
Happy it's not a mk2 otherwise I would of been tempted to get the drop in bag just to fill the gap I have only ever put spare clothes in the drop in bags as it ends up buried at the bottom of all the other gear on the barrow. I'm very particular about who and where I buy used from, I use FB market place, Gumtree and Ebay I will also collect from seller and check their FB profile expecting to see some fishing related content, if they are not willing to sell from home, might be a bit iffy.

Seems to be one of the original fat boy barrows, they all come with a drop in frame bag since the mk2 came out looks like it's the smaller side bags that will fit this one, I didn't know they did two different size side bars and bags to fit they also only do the zip ones in this size since korda took over Nice find don't think it has ever been used fella wanted rid I think, the chair came from a lady who looked like she was clearing out a relatives house ready for sale, same again never used not a mark on it.

I had to get a few parts that were nicked from my garage, after trolling the web, I just went direct to Carp porter. They're very helpful. Part of the Korda family from what I can gather.

I did used to tie some up in Viscount Tackle back in the 1990's for a few people who had arthritis in the fingers, and struggled to tie their own. Not a big money maker as for 10 rigs we'd just charge for the tubing, hooks and swivels we'd used, but it kept customers coming back in each week for other bits like boilies, pellets and other tackle they needed. I had to laugh when someone commented "you wouldn't use that yourself", then when they saw me on Barham and my rigs were identical and I was catching.
